What the fuck kind of response was that Xyun?

Criminals and roads? dubaya tee eff???

Let me make it simple for you. Make two identical General Interest forums on VV save for the following difference. One allows questionable avatars, huge avatars and huge .sigs, and the other one asks members to use more moderate avatars in the interest of expanding the participation of it's primary audience (people who browse this site from work when they have time) Enjoy your NWS General Interest thread with the handful of happy people with bouncing boob avatars while the rest make fun of you , along with everyone else in the other forum.

I am allowed to surf the 'Net at work.
I am not allowed to surf for pr0n at work.

Is this so fucking hard to comprehend? Or is it wrong of me to say that the animated gifs of bitches groping themselves were very close to the pr0n border?

I'm still trying to figure out where the fuck Winnow has pulled this deluded hate for me from. Its caught me quite off guard.

Seriously, if you had such a problem with it before why the hell didn't you say something instead of fucking balling your eyes out silently until someone made a thread about it? Probably because you don't really care. If someone had said to me, "Hey look, I don't really feel comfortable with your avatar whilst I'm viewing from work could you take it down?" I would have been more than happy to remove it. I'm sure that goes double for any other "NWS" avatar users on this board. It seems pretty silly to make the admins change board policy.

Some people are able to kick ass in their occupations and surf the net at the same time!

I can Pwn you on this message board in one window, get the high score in the penguin swatting game in another window while working at 100+ percent expected job performance while racking up employee of the month awards. It's a gift. What can I say.

Now if your job requires you to wear a funny hat and the cash register isn't hooked up to the net, I can understand your dilemma.

Multitask. It's not just for computers anymore!

There's something to be said for companies that recognize people that excel at what they do while giving them a little freedom to do their job however they want while still enforcing minimal common sense standards like keeping pr0n off computer screens. (lawsuits suck) If you're self employed then this doesn't apply. The point is that most aren't and as a result, if they want to view this message board while at work, need a little common sense help from its members to do so.
--------------------------

I don't hate you Stragi. The sigs and avatars were annoying but your posts were fine. Your avatar and sig(s) definately qualify as part of the problem being discussed but if/when the ignore avatar function is in place, it's business as usual.

An employee browsing a web based text forum is a non issue for many employers.

An employee veiwing semi-offensive or borderline pornographic material on thier computer is seen as a potential lawsuit.

This issue really has nothing to do with the opinions of VV posters, it's got everything to do with their company policies.

Since VV is first and foremost a text-based forum, poeple should show some consideration for their fellow posters (who like to read/post from work) and refrain from using avatars, sigs or linking any potentially NWS images in threads that are not in the Kwon or NWS forum.

there you go again using phrases like "common sense". You are to common sense what Aranuil is to manginas, always trying to get some but constantly denied. I don't go to work to be entertained, I go there to work you moron. I just happen to be reliable enough (foreign idea to you I'm sure) and have the skills to hold down a real job.

The bottom line is that you don't surf the web from work because there's no Internet access there, yet you feel like you should be able to pass judgement on those that can and do. You probably think EVERYONE should have to clock in and out at work as well.

What did you flame me with that was so hot, because I obviously missed it. All I saw were the rantings of some junkie with no future and no regard for anyone but himself. The truth must really hurt.

This whole arguement cracks me up... and while I'll truly miss Stragi's boob and ball sigs, I'll eventually get over it.

In the early days of OG with me, Seeber, Blinkle, Azuth, Voronwe, Kalysta, Winnow/Wenna, Aslanna, Gaklek, Claeborn and others, some nights the discussions got... shall we say... ADULT 8) No I'm not talking about someone in a small group cybering someone I'm talking about the open /gu discussion. They weren't really pornographic but definitely not for the faint of heart OR young children (ie under 12, See almost any post from Seeber as an example  ). As we grew larger some members wanted their younger kids to be in with us as well. Perhaps so that they could 2 box a raid but you never knew who the person was when you first logged on. Eventually we all just toned it down a little. I can't remember if there was ever a "rule" or not but I do remember everyone just doing their part...

That is the same thing here. No one is trying to censor anyone but rather asking that everyone go a little bit above and beyond in watching their avitars so that those in repressive work environments can still enjoy the discussion.

Not sure why we need a 6 page thread on this... but oh well.

Cheers!

Wow, you have the skeels to hold down a "real" job and simultaneously post 30 times a day on a message board. I'm sure you are the only one in your whole building with such astounding talents. I'm sure you and winnow are like the cream of the crop when it comes to work ethic and efficiency. Hats off to you, sir! I wish I had the willpower to sit in front of a computer screen for 7 hours only to go home to another computer screen. I wish I had the fortitude to sacrifice my happiness for $. I'm truly truly envious.

If I had internet access at work, and if I chose to abuse my privileges, I still would not come here and demand people change their avatars. I would rather assume the responsibility and accept the consequences of my actions. Tis an idea that is becoming more and more foreign to indolent fucking americans such as yourself.

As I've said before, I don't care about the avatars, it just amazes me that so many of you frivolously compromise your own dignity for a cheap fucking thrill. And while this issue is inconsequential in nature, it speaks volumes of the mentality of the average american. Has this society become so apathetic that we go out of our way to eliminate any risk, no matter how miniscule it may be? That question lies at the very core of what is going on here. It's one thing to have your cake and eat it too, it's another to do it at other people's expense and then proceed to accuse them of being inconsiderate. This is fucking flamevault for god's sake, and we've all just stepped on a slippery slope.

Now this is my favorite part..

I don't go to work to be entertained, I go there to work you moron.
If this statement is completely true, then why o why are we even having this debate? This sentence completely negates your entire side of this arguement. lol. You're so fucking silly it cracks me up. I used to work in a bar, started off as a cocktail waitress, worked my way up to bartending..finally got myself a *real job in the corporate world*

rofl, What I wouldn't give sometimes to go back to having fun again and interacting with people having a good time as opposed to all the fucking whiners I have to deal with from day to day now.

And seriously, don't knock people for what they do for a living, that's lame.
Same thing goes for saying "omg you use drugs you must be stupid!" Not everyone abuses them to the point that they can't hold a job or be productive in society.

Back on topic..while I do happen to work under a very cool supervisor, (she still goes to KROQ concerts...ffs, I wish I had her connections for getting tickets dammit) and she quite often asks me to get some non work related info on-line, I can assure you I'd get some kind of talking to if she happened to see some of the avatars/images that we had here lately. Kwons veiny women would have gotten me fired for sure!

You are the one under the false assumption that my posting habits in any way affect my job performance. I have no delusions about this. There have been, and will be again, entire weeks where the ONLY time you'll see me posting is from home. I have no problems exercising discretion in my posting habits. You're also under the false impression that I don't enjoy what I do. It's challenging, and I do enjoy it.

Laliana, you might have noticed that Xyun was knocking the employment of myself, and those in similar situations before I ever knocked his. The fact is, he doesn't have Internet access at work, so it's very easy for him to say he wouldn't post from work... since he can't. The other fact is that he's an admitted 'slave to temptation' so as far as I'm concerned he can get off his moral high-horse, and stfu.

The overwhelming majority of posters here post from work. That's the reality, and though I have never complained about anyone's avatar but Searyx, I'm glad the mods are taking the necessary steps to ensure everyone is able to post here.

Well.....I imagine that if you actually had professional females in your workplace. they would not be exactly thrilled to have that kind of thing in the workplace with them. If the women here started posting with avatars of men with their balls hanging out, I can guarantee you that there would have been complaints.

Just an fyi for those people who still don't seem to understand...

Surfing message boards while working is a judgement call on the part of an employer as to whether or not it's an offense that warrants termination. For the most part a company will probably warn you if you're on thin ice, and you'll probably get some leeway if you're still performing your work at an acceptable level. Hell, there are many jobs where someone's sole responsibility is to wait for customers to come in or call in, and it's pretty much a given that people will be surfing the internet in the down time.

Looking at porn at work is a potential HR violation that, unfortunately, can and does lead to lawsuits. You are far more likely to get fired for looking at pornographic material at work than you are for fucking the proverbial dog. I know of at least one person at my company who was fired specifically for surfing porn sites.

Hate each other, flame each other, cuss each other out to your heart's delight... but please have some courtesy when it comes to someone else's livelihood. Or don't. Personally I don't wish unemployment on my worst enemy, maybe that's just me.

Hey, don't do that! You're only going to confuse the issue with common sense and consideration for others.

never said that nor do I think it. I only said that I would be trading happiness for money if I took a desk job.

Someone who reads VV from work and spend ALL of their free time playing EQ takes the cake.

There have been, and will be again, entire weeks where the ONLY time you'll see me posting is from home. I have no problems exercising discretion in my posting habits. You're also under the false impression that I don't enjoy what I do. It's challenging, and I do enjoy it.
Nope, I never made either of those assumptions. You either misread, misunderstood, or ignored most everything I posted and every question I posed. reread it if you must, have one of your more intelligent friends explain it to you or something.
Laliana, you might have noticed that Xyun was knocking the employment of myself, and those in similar situations before I ever knocked his. The fact is, he doesn't have Internet access at work, so it's very easy for him to say he wouldn't post from work... since he can't.
please show me where I did this by quoting it for me instead of talking out of your ass.
The overwhelming majority of posters here post from work. That's the reality, and though I have never complained about anyone's avatar but Searyx, I'm glad the mods are taking the necessary steps to ensure everyone is able to post here.
you are a skipping record bud. you didn't answer a single question I posed, and just keep repeating the word "majority". So let me ask one more time before I drop this subject...

If you are able to exercize discretion at work, then why are you forcing us to change our avatars?

Syl, as much as I like you, you are asking me to have some courtesy, but I really don't have a choice in the matter, so what's the point of asking after already forcing? It's really moot.

It had to be enforced because people did NOT show some courtesy towards others. If they had, there wouldn't have been a need for enforcement.

I have a meeting from 1pm-3pm MST.

This will have a direct impact on my ability to surf VV.
