Wtf, avatar censorship?? What's next, gonna have us submit our picture IDs to make sure we're over 13?

If you can get in trouble at work for those, well, duh, TURN THEM OFF IN YOUR F'N BROWSER! Ya know, the option where you can set your explorer not to display any images at all. That's what I've been doing for years now when reading boards in 'public' places. It makes the page load faster, and eliminates any possible offensive content.

Avatar censorship is just ghay. Ghay, ghay ghay :!: I'm all up for freedom of expressing yourself. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Cid's woman, it's not like she's naked.

I dont mind the "so called censorship". To me its NOT that at all. I mainly look at the board from home. I will peek in every now and then from work. The issue with my work though is, I work in people houses on THEIR pc's. I have actually introduced a few EQ players from the bay area to the board , and they enjoy it for the most part.
The issue isnt with "censorship". Its being just a tad tactfull in an enviroment that isnt nearly as free as the European is. I have No probs with the new rule enforcement.

PS Kwons Game sig in the NWS = The Bomb , got 23/24 on first try , and was laughing my ass off the whole time

What, you're telling me that your Internet Explorer is somehow different then mine? Tools --> Internet Options --> Advanced --> Uncheck "Show Images" under Multimedia.

Edit: for the folks using Netscape instead of accursed Microsoft products: Edit --> Preferences --> Privacy & Security --> Images --> check "Do not load any images". Changing this preference takes about 10 seconds if even that.

All I'm saying is that there are other ways to 'fix' the situation on the user end, instead of asking a bunch of people to change their avatars because you might get fired for possible 'porn' at work.

And if you're really stuck in the crappy ass situation where you can't even change preferences in your browser (tbh, I've worked for many companies, did desktop support as well, and haven't seen that level of restriction on any of the machines, but obviously what do I know), then don't read the boards at work, period. It's like asking to change the stop light system everywhere because .1% of the population is color blind (just an example).

Maybe you should learn the population of the board a little bit better before saying something like this. Half the board's posters post from work.

Yep, I know nothing, therefore I'm going to stfu and let you continue to bitch, whine and cry about NWS content. Maybe someone will feel bad for you at work and change your admin right on your machine! Not my problem anyway, and if it was my f'n problem, I wouldn't make it everybody elses issue.

Oh while we at it, why don't we change the language requirement to PG13 and filter bad words out. Go read some catholic message boards instead, or do some work, you won't get fired for that.

Flame on.~

- this board would be as lame as you if the majority of its members couldn't or didn't read and post here from work. Make that a mental post-it and remember it.

- the issue was as much the size of the avatars as the questionable material. A healthy debate about ways to block avatars and mega sigs took place before this decision and it was determined that with the present software for VV and IT restrictions from many companies on access rights, that there wasn't an easy way to block them at this time. It was also plain to see that we have dolts on this board that can't adhere to common sense with regard to avatars and .sigs.

- after reading your responses, I now understand how many of the huge protests organized in WashingtonD.C. are able to amass so many bodies...jumping in without having a clue about the whole picture.

Let me explain.

There is the super set of "VV posters"

of this there is a subset of "VV posters from work"

of this there is another subset "VV posters from work that Cid's avatar would cause a problem if seen over their shoulder"

of this there is a further subset of "VV posters from work that Cid's avatar would cause a problem if seen over their shoulder who can't change their browser preferences"

This final subset, that Kirruu refers to, is very small. You're referring to the second subset which is quite large.

Do we have an understanding yet?

In fact, 95% of the server, database, and phpBB setup was done while the admins were at work. Without being able to visit from work, that IGN banner up top would actually be real. =/

I understand your stance, but you're choosing to pretend that the risque avatars affect a large percentage of the posters here. I call bullshit, and I also do most of my posting from work :p

Ok, for all of you that missed the point, somehow. (thanks Z for straightening that out).

I never said I want people to stop posting from work. I post from work. I have nothing against it. I refered to the very small % of VV population that Z mentioned above. If you want to bend the board rules for that very small % of folks - now thats far more disrespectful for everyone else that wants the diversity and freedom on the boards then the other way around.

And please don't talk about respect on VV, offensive material pours left and right (especially the language), and everyone jumps everyone like a frigging love starved monkey. And if you want to talk about respect, learn it yourself first (noting your responses to me above). You don't see me jumping people by name or calling you a retard because you can't even read what I said (or rather understand).

There is no bending of rules for a small number of people. This rule has been around since this board was created; it's the users with the NWS avatars breaking one of the very few rules the board has. The only way it was enforced before was if Xou had enough PM complaints from people, he would then ask that person to change his/her avatar. It's gone rampant the past few weeks, which is what brought this on.

BTW, you should probably change the tone in which you read my posts. I wasn't being disrespecful to you.

First,

I am going to call bullshit here. When he posted the new policy on avatars. I PM'ed him to ask if mine way still ok, here is his answer:
Xouqoa wrote:Unfortunately, no. =( Gotta be even handed. =\

I have stated numerous times in posts that if my avatar offended anyone, that they could PM me and I would remove it. One person PM'ed me and I did change it, but two days later they PM'ed me again saying to change it back, that it was not that big of a deal. So I did.

The main problem with my avatar is that people would try and top it, and then they would go over the NWS guidelines. So because of them, we are all fucked.

So I do not agree with Xouqoa's decision, but I do respect it and will comply with it. I just do not want the new policy to be pointed at me, as to say the reason we can't have avatars is because of Cid. That’s bullshit.

Xou, Pyrella, I like you both, but you fucking blew it on this one.

To those of you pushing for avatar censorship: Fuck you. Fuck every single one of you. If you are afraid you'll get in trouble for people's avatars, don't read the fucking thing from work. Not like your office wants you reading a fucking EQ message board while you're suppoed to be working anyway.

In closing, fuck censorship.

I'm sure your dog thinks you're a fool too, it's a matter of perspective.
