Happy Canada day!!
Happy Canada day to all the other Canadians. Its raining over here so I hope you guys have better weather over at your end.
almost every country in the world has an independence day that they celebrate. canada doesn't have any independence to celebrate since we are a country that has never really been ruled by anyone else. therefore we have canada day, where we celebrate being canadians, like how you have independence day when you celebrate what it is to be an american (sort of).Acies wrote:Happy Canada Day?
Anyone else think that sounds a little... hokey?
I mean, we do not say "Happy America Day".
Though it is humorous, as it sounds like a Japanese to English translation.
honestly, use your fucking brain.

... Okay, so you are associating Canada day with Independance day? Lady, what fucking trip are you on.kyoukan wrote:almost every country in the world has an independence day that they celebrate. canada doesn't have any independence to celebrate since we are a country that has never really been ruled by anyone else. therefore we have canada day, where we celebrate being canadians, like how you have independence day when you celebrate what it is to be an american (sort of).Acies wrote:Happy Canada Day?

First off, Canada day is about celebrating being Canadian.
Independance day is about celebrating our independance from Britian.
As you said, your nation was never really ruled, so you making the stretch of a comparison between the two doesn't exactly hold much water.
Furthermore bitch, I was commenting on the name of your holiday, not the reason for celebrating. Proud to be Canadian? Great! More power to you, your country is beautiful. Not at all what you attempted to spin by giving a poor history lesson.
Maybe YOU should use your fucking brain. Or at least have any friends who are not impaired use theirs for your benefit.
Bujinkan is teh win!

And just what are we supposed to call this day... "the 1st of July?" We refer to it as Canada Day. I hear more people referring to your Independence day as "the 4th of July." To me that sounds rather silly. Do you refer to Christmas as "the 25th of December" or New Years as "the 1st of January?"Acies wrote: [

*edit* A brief history of this day.Legenae wrote:And just what are we supposed to call this day... "the 1st of July?" We refer to it as Canada Day. Taken from this site: http://www.tceplus.com/Timeline/birth_frame.htmThe British North America Act was passed by the British Parliament and given royal assent by Queen Victoria on March 29. It came into effect on July 1. The Act joined the colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick in one federal union.
hrm, seems I hit the quote button instead of the edit button on my above post.
Acies, you have to start doing a little research before you start beaking off...First off, Canada day is about celebrating being Canadian.
Independance day is about celebrating our independance from Britian.
Actually the original name of the holiday is Dominion Day, denoting that on July 1, 1867 the self governing Domion of Canada was created from the British North American colonies (as quoted above). July 1 is to Canadians, what July 4 is to Americans: we just negotiated our autonomy, rather than fight a war.
Sometime in the Trudeau Era, when it became unfashionable to associate anything Canadian with our roots as loyal subjects of the British Crown, people stopped calling it Dominion Day and started calling it Canada Day. Not sure if that fuckhead legally changed the name or not, and not about to go looking right now.
Happy belated Dominion/Canada Day to all you other Canadians: weather in Calgary was awesome
edit: /quote isn't the same as /bold...

Acies is a prime example of why people loath Americans so much at times.
"HAHAH YOU GOT FOOKIN FUNNY HOLIDAY NAME HAHAH ME INSULT JOO COUNTRY"
Grow the fuck up buddy and learn some class. You don't see Canadians flaming you guys for calling the 4th of July Independence Day "HAHA JOO GOT STUPID HOLIDAY NAME HAHA"
As for what was posted above - July 1st is a celebration for becoming self governed, as Wulfran stated. Which is independence, however not accomplished the way the USA achieved theirs.
Happy Belated Canada Day! (I didn't read the boards yesterday

I'm Canadian and just like you, I live America. Are you refering to a day for the United States and Canada to celebrate living in North America together because that would be cool (extra holidays = good!). Suddenly I like "Happy America Day" very much."I mean, we do not say "Happy America Day".

The concept is facinating and would be wonderful.Lynxe wrote:I'm Canadian and just like you, I live America. The name, however, would still sound unpoetic with a certain tacky flair, to a point.
Well, I did not know all this wonderful history about Canada, but to be honest I have not greatly studied the subject. Apparently neither has Kyoukan, as I based my info off of hers. Nonetheless, Holidays are wonderful. I just think "Canada Day" has a pseudo Japanese to English translation ring to it.
As to Kguku, you can lick my sack. You are not Kyoukan, and your capped sentances in gross parody of what I said only emphaizes that while I may be making fun of the name of a Canadian Holiday, you insult yourself plenty fine via your own stupidity. If fact, even bothering to respond like this and say "this is what the world hates about Americans" makes you an ignorant dick.
Learning Class? This comes from the boy who, *Ahem*:
Yeah... pwyp bitch."HAHAH YOU GOT FOOKIN FUNNY HOLIDAY NAME HAHAH ME INSULT JOO COUNTRY"
To everyone else, sorry if me thinking your holiday "NAME" sounds humorous. If you make fun of the vocalization of any of our holidays, I could honestly give a rats ass less.

Wulfran might be able to show restraint, but I won't.
Show a little fucking respect for other countries and shut your fucking hole.
When you people are able to comprehend that I laugh at a name, not the holiday (as was explained three times now) then you can critizise and explain your arguement.
Til then, STFU both of you.

Mocking the name of the holiday IS insulting the holiday. But I guess that's too complex for a simpleton such as yourself to comprehend.Acies wrote:When you people are able to comprehend that I laugh at a name, not the holiday (as was explained three times now) then you can critizise and explain your arguement.
