SWG Release Announced

Release date is June 26, 2003. They announced it a week before release, I just pre-ordered a copy @ http://www.starwarsgalaxies.com.

If anyone cares or is wondering, I will be playing on the Ahazi server.

$15 a month is a lot to ask for a mmorpg.

I was really jonesing for swg for over a year but right now I think I am going to wait 8-12 months for them to finish it. I'm getting a little tired of paying to beta SOE products.

The fact they are not even having an open beta or lifting the nda until its basically out on the shelves is very telling. I've messed around with the game and although the framework for a really good game is in there someplace, it is not even close to being one yet.

I wouldn't play SWG if they payed me 15 bucks a month... I don't want to violate the NDA, not that I care if I'm booted from the beta of their game that I had to pay to help them test, but the game in my opinion, is a pile of shit.

I too don't want to jeopardize the agreement by saying anything. I'm disappointed they're not having an open beta so I can state my opinion.

I love this concept, I like the development team they have, I like the visuals, but this release date is not cool by any means, have they learned nothing from shit releases of other games? As far as I know, no SW:G beta server has been up and running for 48 hours in a row.. and yet they wanna release it? wtf??

SWG has come far in the past few weeks.
There are still a lot of unimplemented features but the basic game mechanics are sound and the servers are relatively stable.

What baffles me is that there is so much shit left to finish... there are a shitload of missing text descriptions, bugged schematics, bugged players, bugged missions, bugged NPCs... so much work needs to be done to get this game into release condition... and I don't think it can be done in a week.

I think AO was in better shape a week before release than SWG.

Also, take into consideration WoW will be out in just a few short months.

Take your cockslobbering over to the FOH public forums, the mouthbreathers over there crap their pants at the mention of WoW.
The game is not even in beta yet, you fucking tool.

The only reason I can see for SoE to release without open Beta, etc., is so that they can cash in on early sales for this years fiscal end date. No doubt Sony is one of the majority of companies who's fiscal year ends in August/September...so, they will be able to reprt a good fourth quarter for the company, while banking on the added subscription money for first quarter earnings...again, I could be wrong, I'm not an accountant.

Sony's fiscal year ends at the end of March. Their first quarter ends at the end of June. SWG has been in development a long time.
Every week it stays in beta is probably hundreds of thousands of dollars spent.

I can't say I blame them for wanting to release it ASAP.
As it stands right now, SWG is very playable (but incredibly dull) and most of the basic game elements are complete.

i was kind of in kyoukan's canoe a few months ago, but i think at this point, i'm just gonna wait and see. I have no real plans to start a new game anyways, especially if it is another campfest like EQ.

i'm having fun in EQ as it is, and i dont want to divide my limited time between games.

My post had nothing to do with FoH or their forums. What I know of SWG is based upon my first hand experience, and I know it isn't for me. Not so much because of bugs or unimplemented features, but because the fundamental system of the game (i.e.combat system, classes, items) isn't an enjoyable experience for me. EQ upon release wasn't pretty, it did have it's bugs and server crashes, but the fundamentals were there and they were moving in the right direction.

I will admit I don't have any first hand experience with WoW other than teasers and what I have read, but basically what it comes down to is that WoW or no WoW, I will not be playing SWG. If WoW is good, which I expect it will be, I will buy it. If it's not I won't.

If they had an open beta it would be widespread the fact that the game blows ass. The NDA makes sure that those who care, won't say anything, and all those people that don't do their homework will dish out their 65 dollars and join the piece of shit game.
