Peace in the Middle-East?

Post by noel »

Interesting article here: http://www.msnbc.com/news/927969.asp?0cl=c1 that discusses the current peace initiatives for Israel and the Palestinians.

I'm not normally known for my pessimism, but I honestly don't think peace can be achieved in the middle-east, and for that matter, I think the idea of sending US troops there would not only be a futile effort, but would be poorly received. I don't think Israel can keep their fingers off their triggers long enough to allow anything like this to happen, and I think the Palestinian terrorist groups would just take out pent up agression and frustration on the newly implanted targets of American Soldiers. It would be a shame to see us go into what would essentially be a meatgrinder between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian terrorists.

If as the author suggests, we had international support, in fact the entire world committed to forcing Israel and Palestine to resolve their differences, I think there could be success, but I don't think the world would ever support it with the necessary energy, and I don't think the US can be trusted with the amount of lobbyists for Israel here in our country.

It's a sad state of affairs. If the UN and the world could truly commit to resolving world situations like this, I think we as humans could eventually accomplish wonderful things.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

there is no common sense solution to peace between the israelis and the palestinians because the conflict itself is rooted in religious beliefs, which is the very antithesis of common sense and rational thought.

both sides believe they are god's chosen people and the land they reside on is holy land that is their right to posses.

giving the palestinians their own land and booting out the jewish settlers in gaza and west bank would solve some problems politically, but there are still a significant amount of palestinians that will never stop fighting until the last jew is dead, and a large number of jews that will never stop killing palestinians until the closest arab to the holy land is living in egypt and syria.

thinking that there is going to be some form of lasting peace between the two cultures is almost as fantastical as thinking that bombing the fuck out of Iraq will start a renaissance of peace and democracy in the middle eaast.

I don't understand what point you're trying to make when you post these articles.

It isn't the religion, it's the people.

To further clarify, it's the people that use religion as a manipulative tool.

At times I almost wonder if the Israelis aren't on the right path: build a big fucking wall so they and the Palestinians can't get near each other... of course the wall isn't where the Palestinians want it so its one more bone of contention... :?

US will never be accepted as a peacemaker between Israel and Palestinians due to how it has backed Israel (and still does) through history. A military presence would be better off not having Americans in them if you are to put them into the middle of the conflict.
