Tim Duncan >> Nets.
I believe I called Spurs in 6.
Stats of the game:
21 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists, 8 blocks
The league MVP once again proves his worth. He stepped up when Tony Parker was doing his best to hand the Nets the game on a silver platter.

agreed. Duncan is the only worthwhile person to watch in that pathetic series. If the mavs coulda won, they would have disposed of the nets in 4. Neither team can score, and it makes this series really sucky.
anyway, yes, Duncan > nets. just like he owns every other team.

Edit - just a typo .. lol. my bad.

Coaching killed the mavs.. once steve kerr walked out onto the floor, don nelson should have put abdul on him.. that would have helped them. And duncan got no help because he was being triple teamed at times..lol
anyway, the spurs winning was how it should have been, other than being a dumbass, i was trying to make the point that the shooting in the finals was laughable.
and yes, im aware it is a 7 game series, it was a typo, thanks though.

Wish you all could have been here in San Antonio last night. The party went on all night and most of our downtown area was shut off. And I know it's been said already but I'm glad David Robinson went out on top, he really deserved this championship after doing so much for the Spurs and San Antonio.

From what they have been reporting here in SA probally not. Popavich said in a press release earlier that he was pleasantly suprised with Tony Parker's performance throughout the series and the rest of the season.
Another thing is the Spurs are more than likely picking up the option on Tim Duncan's contract so they are going to have to shell out some money to keep him and I don't think they could get Kidd and keep the team we currently have now. Besides we don't need an asshole on a team full of the nicest guys in the NBA atm.

I'm happy for San Antonio, and glad they won. I might have watched ~2 minutes of the series though. There was just nothing there to hold my interest. Tim Duncan might be a great player, but he also might be the most boring player in the NBA.
Had the Kings especially, the Mavs, or even the Lakers gone to the finals, I think the series would have been even shorter.
Given that Gary Payton is who alledgedly taught Kidd to play point guard, I'm actually surprised Kidd it not more of an asshole.

Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
If you had the chance to address 2 potential weaknesses on your team with one shot, would you do it? Or at least look into it? Thats exactly where Buford and Popovich are right now. By signing Kidd(or even Gary Payton), you A) upgrade the PG position immediately, and B) give yourself an attractive piece of trade bait in Parker, which you could then use in a trade for a big man(Brian Grant in Miami), or a high draft pick and get a young big man from this draft(Bosh, Kaman, Lampe). They are gonna need someone to play with Duncan now that Mr.Robinson is retiring. Malik Rose is a good guy, just not tall enough to guard the likes of Brand, Webber, or Wallace.Axien_Dellusions wrote:From what they have been reporting here in SA probally not. Like Jason Kidd, on the court, Gary Payton plays his position to perfection. There's nothing wrong with trash-talking on the court. The problem was his character in the locker room, toward his teammates, toward his organization, and his overall lack of character.Adelrune Argenti wrote:Hey, don't disrespect "The Glove". Duncan's most serious issue next year is going to be Shack. He can guard him well, but will end up in foul touble without another bigman out there. I don't agree with Kidd -> SA. SA needs another bigman. Parker is young, very tallented and is a far better shooter than Kidd. IMO, SA does not need someone with Kidd's tallents. Their game is built around Duncan. You don't take someone like Kidd and not build your game around him. It would be a waste. Option on Duncan + Kidd salary + Robinson replacement is simply too much. They should groom Parker for th PG possition and look for a replacement to Robinson, either in the form of a large forward or a new center.
The East might not be so bad next year, IMO. Detroit has #2 pick and will end up with that Russian guy (name blank atm). I would look for them to take the East next year and they will make a good matchup for any but a healthy LA.
Last comment - LA. Healthy year and they will be on top again. I am not a fan at all (really dislike Kobe for some reason), but no team has a better combination than Shack inside and Kobe on the perimeter. When the team is healthy, they really are nearly impossible to defend.
OK - I lied, one more comment. SA had the best record in the NBA this year, but they got damn lucky in the Playoffs. They MIGHT have won anyway, but it sure made it easy when they basically got to play Dallas without Nawitski. And that series was close even under those conditions. Will be interesting to see how SA fairs next year.

Aaeamdar: You do have a valid point, with the salary cap on the Spurs it will be rather hard to pick up Kidd but from what my husband and I were thinking ther is already a replacement for Robinson on the team. Malique Rose has proved to be an awesome player for the Spurs and a go to guy. The only thng Popovich would have to worry about with Rose is the fact that he has a tendency to foul out or get very close to it.
Tony Parker will be a good PG when he gets a little more seasoning under his belt I think. He just needs to grow up and settle into the play style of the NBA and realize this isn't the European league. Overall I think we had a well season and will have another great one year.

When you have to admit that Jason Kidd is bar none the top point guard in the league, then you know that the league is suffering at that position. The center position is also suffering in terms of quality players.
With Robinson's, Olajuwon's, and Stockton's retirements, we are basically seeing a changing of the old guard with jack and shit to step into their place. After Shaq and Kidd in their respective positions, who else would you put near the top? Marbury? Pausol? While you can make an argument for Duncan, he's technically billed as a power forward. Hell, can anyone here name a center worth a shit after Shaq who can legitemately dominate a game night in and night out? Hell, there's no PGs that even come close to doing this regularly.
I believe what I'm really rambling about is the general lack of true superstar quality players in the league at the moment. With expansion and the subsequent watering down of the league, the superstars should be more readily apparent. What is shaping up right now is fairly little.
IMO, legit superstars (barring injuries definate future hall of famers):
Tracy McGrady
Kobe Bryant
Shaquille Oneal
Tim Duncan
Kevin Garnett
Borderline, on the cusp:
Dirk Nowitski
Allen Iverson
Jason Kidd
Vince Carter
Old age sapping at them, but definately superstars in their prime:
Karl Malone
Gary Payton
Effectively we have no true superstars at the PG position and only 1 at the center position. Luckily the other 3 positions look pretty well taken care of. I know some tards here will bitch and moan about Kidd or even Marbury, but when you've been spoiled with the likes of Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Kevin Johnson (before his knee injury, he was easily up there with these guys), and Gary Payton, then you can understand where I'm coming from. It's like being used to filet mignon and then going to fucking eating grade E Taco Bell ground chuck.

I agree. With a lot of what you said. I think he has the talent, but I don't think he's going to hit his full potential with the course he's on now.
Say what you like about Kobe Bryant, but he's a safe investment. He's all business on the court, and unlike Shaq, he doesn't forget that he's a basketball player in the off-season. I think if Iverson had a similar discipline (he appears to have none), he'd be one of the best players in the NBA, if not the best. This coming from someone who doesn't like Iverson at all. He has game, but he has no character.

I don't include AI near the top for a few reasons:
1. Talent alone doesn't cut it. Read up on Earl "The Goat" Manigault on the epitome of wasted potential as far as a basketball career goes.
2. Other than his scoring ability, (at a shitty FG % I might add, but to avoid argument we'll give him the botd because his team relies on him to score score score) his game isn't all that impressive. He's a mediocre defender (getting 2 steals per game doesn't mean much if you take a lot of risks and wind up giving up an open lane for a layup) and turns the ball over a lot. Admittedly, there's a lot more to the game than simply stats, but if you take the time to look at his....there's nothing overly impressive about them other than a respectable PPG.
3. He's a shitty leader. As Aran pointed out; maturity issues.
4. Probably tons more out there, I'll edit whenever I think of another...

Zamtuk I completely agree with you. I'll admit the Lakers are good but they talk way to much shit for my taste. I like the guys that are good and don't rub it into people's faces.

lol about the lakers ... few teams can buy their victories. If i am not mistaken, i believe the lakers have the highest salaries in the nba.
Kobe reminds me of KG.. both talk so much shit. In basketball, there's nothing i enjoy more than seeing those two hot heads lose. If i wasnt 5'10'', i would shove it in their faces. The fact that im white doesnt help either..

I actually like Kobe. I don't think he's arrogant as much as I think he's self-confident. Jordan used to talk a lot of shit too. Say what you want about Kobe, but you have to admire his work ethic, and he is one of the few players left that can take over a game if his team is losing. I don't mind people being confident/arrogant if they can back it up on the court.
I don't think a comparison between Kobe and KG is fair on any level. KG has yet to prove to me that he's anything but an above average power forward. Scottie Pippen (as just one example) was a far better forward than KG has ever been.

Micheal Jordan earned his right to talk shit after the dunk over Ewing and Starks in the 92 Conf. Finals. If the last Bulls team was still around, Kobe wouldnt have 3 rings.
Kobe proved he couldnt carry a team into the playoffs at the beginning of the season when LA was playing like shit with Shaq out. Yeah, he did have 9 40+ point games in a row, but that was also while Shaq was in the middle drawing double teams. If there is anyone in the league right now that you could honestly compare to Micheal, it would be Tracy McGrady, not Kobe. He took an shitty Magic team into the playoffs with no other real scoring option other than himself.
Scottie Pippen didnt play PF, and he also hasnt done shit since he stopped playing with MJ, so any comparison to KG is pointless.
