I played UO for exactly 20 minutes like a year before EQ came out. I got ganked 10 times in that span, so I uninstalled the game and broke the CD. Liz would have been proud.

I've heard good things. I was 12 or 13 when I got into EQ beta though, so UO wasn't really ever an option for me =)

All I remember doing in UO was going about and chopping trees for wood and making bows, then doing that for 2 weeks solid, only to die and someone steal all my stuff.

Used to play UO back in the day, played for about 2 and a half or 3 year. Then I got addicted to EQ.

I miss those UO days sometimes

I had a great time with UO....until I was getting raped by PKers so often the game just became a frusterating pain in the ass.

I started UO a month after it was released, played for 2 years. I loved it, though getting PK'ed was lame shit - I hated running around trying to stock back up on reagents. :bad-words:

Yes memories...
stripping for GPs...
not being able to leave town or travel anywhere or become powerful because of PKs
getting stuck on an island because I stole a boat, and parked it there, and next time I logged on it was gone...waiting for 4 hours for GM assistence without help
getting PKd because of getting disconnected and packetloss'd to hell

Well, at least there was stripping for GPs. ;)

I played UO for awhile. I lived on a boat because they were safer to store your shit in than houses in the early days.

I bound myself in the treasure rooms and looted them on a regular basis to finance my fetishes. I assume the bind spots were fixed and houses secured eventually although my fetishes remain.

UO was the absolute shit, and the only reason why I quit is because they anihilated all the pvp aspects that made it fun heh.

Same reason I left, I could take 1 or 2 at a time, but the hordes of 14 year old jackasses drove me away.

It was cool for about 3-4 months, then between the houses everywhere, PKers and assorted other stupid BS I said the hell with it.

the good ol' days : )

There will never be another game that was so completely immersive as UO was in the beginning. However, the glory days have long past for the first major MMORPG. I left UO about 3 years ago and it was none too soon. UO has to be the only game who's GMs primary function was to enforce instead of help. And of course the game is so far removed from what it used to be. I know that statloss is FINALLY gone after being in the game for 5 years, but with Trammel its still a moot point. The pvp now is fair at best and its excellent pvp was what made it so fun for gamers like myself.

If UO was still what it was when it was released before the world split where there is a safe spot and all the anti-pk coding... I would still be playing it right now...

I've had many great PvP experiences in UO and tradeskills were actually fun to do... I remember waiting to fucking click on my pickaxe and mine a damn mountain to hope to get that 0.1 skill gain... I remember sitting right outside britain at the x-roads trapped in a house surrounded by about 30 korean players with my 2 friends which all 3 of us were red... we killed about 20 of them and finally decided we better recall since about 20 more koreans showed up...

Flying through Covetous with a huge group of friends that were all red and people yelling for help to their friends, blue players flying in and getting raped by us. That was fun. back when house keys were carried around by clueless people and you could gank a whole house just from having their key cause the idiot had their rune on them along with house key.

Nothing as of yet has come close to how much fun UO was back then. EQ is fun, but a totally different kind of fun. PvP is a totally different rush : )

So yea, UO was amazing...

your so right neef.

I love EQ a lot, but I have never been scared out of my mind, blood pumping, and a nervous wreck, ever in EQ.

In UO, that was every night. It was so crazy.

And as Breeka and I were discussing last ngiht, customizing your house was way to fun. Also, trapping an ogre with chests and EZMacro'ing Archery, Magery, and Melee skills ruled.

Or building a house near a mountain side, and macroing from inside the house nice and safe. Ofcourse, that was until people realized you could throw explosion potions into windows and kill them.

I'm on a roll hehe....how about inching your way under peoples houses via the steps and binding under peoples houses, then relogging...and...WOOT, your inside their house, ganking all their stuff!

too much fun

I had a pretty sweet tankmage, like 98.something in magery and a couple other skills and got ganked by some people who opened a portal and sent those demon things out of it while attacking me. That stat loss alone soured me, and then within a week someone exploited into my house and stole all my stuff. I hated UO after that.

If you like to customize your house in online MMORPG's I suggest checking out SW:G, it has a lot of that stuff and its being released near the end of this month. Its no oldschool UO, or uber as EQ, but it has a nice casual play to it that I am enjoying.

PS I am sure there is gonna be like 900 posts about why SW:G sucks, and to that I say , BRING IT ON!! And frankly, I dont care, I am just making a suggestion to someone, I am enjoying this game, and to me thats all that matters.

Ah, UO. Played for 4 years, then they dumbed it down to much and I got addicted to EQ. Hell I met LB in UO. Ah memories...

Tailoring leather bustiers to become rich.
Buying an awesome 2story house and LB finding us secluded beachfront property.
Decorating said beach house with rare and unusual objects. *tries to remember them all* Stolen Scenery Shafts, a Whip, Pool of Blood and Skelly bone container.
Getting caught by the UO Roommate /cybering.
Killing those PKs that simply couldnt kill us.
Getting all the loot I could hold from a friend who PK'd.
Riding Kri, my nightmare.

and the VERY BEST thing about UO...

BLACK LEATHER THIGH HIGH BOOTS!!! And a jester hat. (My normal ensemble.)

cast explo, pre cast eb, equip halberd, hit with halberd, let loose the eb. BAM!

UO was so damn fun. I had more fun PKing back in the day then I ever had in EQ (well I dunno if I'd go that far). Then there were all those lame patches, although there were still plenty of ways to get into fights.

I'd make my guild order, we'd see other order, then I'd recall back to my stone and make us chaos, then we'd kill the order guys as they'd suddenly turn orange.

I'd go into town, tell people I was quitting and make up these great sob stories. Sometimes I'd whine about the patches then other times I'd say I just couldn't afford UO anymore. Finally I'd say "hey man, do you want my house?" "or want a few hundred of each reg?" and I'd gate them back to my house. There would be atleast two people waiting there, both dex monkeys. One would be hiding outside the door to the side, the other in the house. The victim(s) would walk in and suddenly become killable, person on outside would block door and hit him, person inside would too. Of course I had the chests lined up so they couldn't run around and would be trapped. With atleast 3 people banging on them they couldn't get recall out and it would be a complete slaughter. At first I was able to get 3 people at a time to fall for the trick then come die at my house. After awhile though, I literally had several people following me around every town I went to spamming warnings about me to where it got to be slim pickings.

I was banned two seperate times in UO. One was when I used a crossbow with supreme accuracy (it's been awhile, I think that was it) and used a bug to where I kept the stat bonus points even after I took the x bow off. The GM actually walked in on me while I was doing the exploit and nailed me. The other time I was quitting and wanted to see how much I could get away with until I got banned, so I walked around all the towns spamming racial slurs and the worst things I could think of. It took me 3 days doing this for several hours each day until I was finally banned. Yeah, I had no life, but it was fun.

When I was a semi newbie I got the title "dark lord" from killing some NPCs and was red to everyone. It took me awhile to figure out why people would always attack me. I remember I got my str up to 60 and managed to get a full set of plate- I was such a pimp. Then I went to covetous and promptly got owned...I was so pissed.

Getting back to killing...the best was with stone wall and vortex. For some reason I loved doing that. I'd para someone, cast stone wall on them then pre cast EV. Then I'd block them from one side and put the EV on the other...they always died in a matter of seconds.

The people that I hated the most were those fags who'd have like 5 tamed dragons and would run the second they got attacked. Of course, it was always fun killing their pets then watching them threaten to hack you (yes I'm talking about threatening to hack your computer) for killing their best friends.

It sucks what UO has become...if you think EQ releases incomplete expansions just check out how Age of Shadows has been, it's a complete disgrace.

ps Sorry for bumping an old thread :)
