Thought this was a little funny

Post by Tegellan »

Try this psychological test:

While at the funeral of her own mother, a young girl met this guy whom she did not know. She thought he was amazing, so much the dream guy she was searching for, and she fell in love with him right then and there. But she didn't get a chance to ask for his name or number and afterward, could not find anyone who knew who he was.

A few days later the girl killed her own sister.

Question: What is her motive in killing her sister?

Give this some thought for a while before you scroll down.

Answer:

She was hoping that the guy would appear at the funeral again. If you answered this correctly, you think like a psychopath. This was a test by a famous American psychologist used to test if one has the same mentality as a killer. Many arrested serial killers took part in this test and answered it correctly. If you didn't answer correctly good for you.

I took into account that people would've known that the girl had killed her own sister, and therefore her efforts were relating to her regret in not getting his number or figuring out his name, so she wanted to lock herself away from the world.

Shrug. I drew many false conclusions. How about you?!

Jeeze, just a teensy bit obvious, dontcha think, especially in this age of cheesy slasher movies etc? Anyone who didnt have the "correct" answer at least occur to them before they discarded it could be routinely outsmarted by a rutabaga. /thwap.

I figured it was the guy her sister was dating.

I figured the sister knew that she killed her mother, so she was tying up a loose end.

Actually, if you look at the situation from a purely logical point of view (which I did like 4 months ago when I first saw this) you will come to the correct answer. I don't think it's a test of whether you think like a serial killer at all, just if you think logically. People usually try to figure out some emotional reason for this, and have many theories usually. BTW Tegellan, the better plan would have been to hold back the correct answer, and watch all the interesting theories people have. ;)

PS: just for the record, I answered it right the first time.

Same thing, first thing that popped into mind was maybe that was her sister's boyfriend.

Don't fear, this test is lame. ;) It just means you're good at not jumping to conclusions.

The knowledge we have:

The mother died.
The girl went to the funeral.
The girl saw a boy she liked at the funeral.
The girl could not find the boy again.
The only place that she found him was at the funeral.
The girl killed her sister.

These are the only things that are given, so there's only one conclusion that relies only on the presented facts.

Girl went to funeral caused seeing boy.
Not going to funeral means she doesn't see boy. (They say she couldn't find him.)
She wants to see boy.
So she wants to go to funeral again.

Other theories are interesting, and not impossible, but given only the knowledge presented, this is the most likely. Anything else would be a guess that's not really supported by much in the question.

To all the people who answered right: It just means that you are good at working only with the facts at hand, and not formulating some kind of other theory about it. I think it could be a test of whether or not you'd make a good detective. ;)

i went for assumption that you can always find someone if you work at it, so i figured first that yah , she was her sisters date but then found that to be to normal.

so i went with that he was in fact her brother from her mothers past sexual encounter and before she died she had only told her older sister, who was then the only one that could verify that she herself was related to that boy, she then removes the only obstacle to having a relationship with said boy and then works on trying to find him.

-we dont get to hear any conversations so i assume there may have been some at home between the sisters where that information about boy beeing their brother is past on.
-we dont hear about other family members so i assume they (2 sisters plus brother) are the only ones left.
-brother didn´t contact her at funeral, so he doesn´t know her by sight or she can assume that to fulfill her fantasy. (names can be changed easily and you dont have to pay SoE for it :) )
-and i spose the added bonus of the boy showing up for the 2nd funeral is a possibility where she can introduce herself to him and see about starting a relationship with him. (that is doomed for fail and she either kills him too or is admitted to a nuthouse, if she kills him she will then either move to another location and be a very quiet person for a long time or have a short killing spree even just one victim before she is caught because she is too emotional about her kills and reasons for killing them, it is to fulfill her fantasy of what is realistically fine, but she will remove obstacles if any with force if faced with them.)

ok i need to stop talking now..
