VeeshanVault, Donations, and You

Post by Xouqoa »

Okay, here's the skinny.

Our bandwidth usage continues to increase each month, and the amount of traffic is going up each month as well. (Every month since July'02 when we opened.)

Pyrella and I have been kicking around the idea of getting a dedicated server for VeeshanVault, but this costs money.

The company we are seriously considering going with will get us the following:
  • 400 gb of transfer a month
40 gb of hard disk space
    512 MB of RAM
the ability to put anything we choose on the server
Basically, we would own the server to do whatever we wanted with, but we would be renting it for a monthly fee.

They have two pricing options. The first, is $99 a month. With this plan comes a $150 set up fee which brings the total cost for one year of operation to $1,338.

The second pricing plan is $999 upfront, which gets is one year of service all taken care of immediately. This is a savings of $338, but is more difficult to round up all at once.

Donation form is below, with a total goal of $1000. The initial response to this was pretty good, so we don't think it'll be too difficult to raise the amount needed.

http://veeshanvault.org/donate.htm

Once confirmation of a donation is received, we'll post the list of who and how much. If you prefer to remain anonymous just let us know in the PayPal form thing. (There's a note field, I believe.)

Thanks for your support guys!

And your Bush thread (used underwear?) is probably in the new forum, Current Events

Ya, PM pyrella and he can send you address. Make sure you let him know how much so he can mark it down and we can calculate the total right. :D

I'd just like to reiterate that even if you can only chip in like $5, that's a big help.

We noticed that it was mostly $20 and up donations, and don't want anyone to feel like they need to be obligated to give that much. Anything is grand. =)

My insurance is already paid for, and $1000 would make less than 3 payments on my car. ;)

Anyway, the money is going to Pyrella! He's the scammer! *nod*

Well, we are going to be good to go. Spoke with the sales rep over at the hosting company, and managed to get us split into a 3 month plan so that we don't need to wait until the full amount is collected before doing anything. In fact, the server should be online tomorrow, and we'll start doing the transfer and setting things up as soon as possible.

I also requested a tape drive as an upgrade to our server so that we can do nightly backups for an additional 10 dollars a month.

I plan to do it late at night after the domain has switched over. I will lock the boards for about 30 mins while I export/import the db and make sure it's still working.

I'll give a day or 2 notice prior to this as well.

Ok page updated again (Donate and view here -> http://www.veeshanvault.org/donate.htm ) lost a few of the notification emails during the switch, but went through all the records and we should be completely up to date at this point.

If you have donated and for some reason you don't see your name, please PM me or Xou and I will correct as soon as possible.

And once again, thanks to all of you for your support.

edit: helps if I could spell right
