I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but I really want one of these keyboards:
It's a backlit keyboard! Sorry, I just think that's cool and all. They have a couple others on their site, Eluminx. I saw like a whole bunch of other designs at E3, and they were pretty neat too. They only have like 3 of them on their site. I think I want to get a red backlit one so it matches my trackball's light. But for that I'll have to wait a few months. :/

Personally I wouldn't mind the backlighting. I'm a touch typist but sometimes I glance down to find numbers and such on occassion. Would be nice then in the dark. But not $100 nice.

Hmm, if you look to type, won't that back-light eventually like give you a headache?
I mean trying to read through that glowing stuff has to hurt after awhile.
Looks cool though, I considered it for a second until I thought about the heaaches.....
I still look when I type. I type fast, but without looking I get even more typo's...and I don't go back to correct. I'm not graded on my posts.
$100 is a bit much, if I could count on the quality I'd pay for it though....keyboards last longer then most of my computer equipment....so you can re-use it on several machines....I'm willing to pay more on parts I can re-use from machine to machine.
So like keyboards, cases, somewhat monitors, speakers and soundcards....even network cards...I'm willing to pay slight premiums on.
Video cards, CPU, MB, RAM....those things don't last anyway...I try and find cost effective part there....get the best bang for the buck. You toss it in 1-2 years anyway.
Right now my main computers keyboard is black, and I have my office in the basement so there aren't many windows (the opposite side is a walk out, so there are some)
That black keyboard is so hard to read if I have the lights off...and I like the lights off because the lighting down here is like 8 flood lights...and then you get 4 machines running, and a mini-fridge...and weak ventilation...and it gets hot down here fast.
That's why an illuminated keyboard peaked my interest temporarily.
I guess I should just buy a white keyboard or a desk lamp heh.

I think gel keys would be hard to implment because they would be harder to press. They might also wear funny with the usage a keyboard generally sees.
I dont look at the keyboard, and it would throw off the 'i stayed up all night and the only light in the entire room all night was my monitor' feeling I'm use to.
Every review of those keyboards mentions the high pitch whine that the power inverter for the EL makes. I guess I'll wait for them to fix this before I shell out for one.
now THAT would be annoying...almost like my second box I always have to open up to work on something....hearin the fans gets real annoying. It's only worse when the comp is off and you realize how much noise the littlest things actually make.
Overall, I think they're a cool concept, and maybe they will become more "mainstream" once other companies are able to produce them as well forcing upgrades. (as if that really happens)
