What a sloppy attempt to dodge the question.
You wondering yet why Bush is making strides to patch things up with France? Could it be because he has egg on his face about the whole WOMD thing? I think so.
France had their own agenda for not wanting Hussein out of power though.
I will forever hold the opinion that the recent war with Iraq was an unjust and illegal invasion that Americans should feel ashamed for instead of being proud of, but Chirac is an absolute scoundrel of a man, and supporting a dictator like Saddam is just as bad as invading a sovereign country for it's natural resources and deceiving people into thinking its for other reasons.
France has a long and storied history of mucking around in foreign nations. They still do it constantly in Africa. They are no better than the US in most instances and Chirac has no real leg to stand on in this affair.
As for Powell, well look at the administration he has to work with. Can you imagine trying to save face for the Bush administration internationally right now? Talk about the hardest job in the world. If Bush and his cronies had even an ounce of dignity, they would resign in shame for the amount of money and lives their little personal war just cost the world.
Public: I thought you said you had enough proof of WMD in Iraq in order to back a US invasion. Seeing as how we've found absolutely nothing close to what you lead us to believe was the threat, we'd like to know what intelligence information that you based your original opinion on.
Powell: Trust me, I had top notch information that proved Iraq had WMD. Stop asking questions about it.
That's just...frustrating. It's circular rhetoric. This administration will never admit it was completely fucking wrong, or at the very least, they purposefully mislead the American public to gain favor for the war. Thankfully for them, most of the US is considerably more concerned about which upcoming summer movie they're going to see this weekend than their not-so-clever rouse.
It's sad to see us "sleepwalking through history". Especially when the mistakes of this administration are so self-serving, dangerous, and abundant.

Notice the administration focus now is *looking to the future, not the past*. I don't see how Powell will be able to pull it off, maybe he should let Rummy do all the talking. trying to defend these most recent events is futile, at least give the job to someone who has no face to save. Powell still has a future as it stands right now.
