Its really too bad, but with AOL/Time Warner accepting Internet Explorer as its premier Browsing Platform over there OWN product, Netscape, this likely spells disaster for Netscape... I really dont see a reason for AOL/Time Warner continuing to dump developement funds in to a browser that is DOOMED to die...
Its too bad really... oh well LONG LIVE THE KING! errr... Internet Explorer.
PS: Sorry... 2 new posts by me today, but both are worthy of a good old ass jacking flame fest of hatred!

Netscape used to rock back in the day..... but last couple years it has sunk down to the level of programs like AOL as far as usefullness.

A browser isn't a viable product unless you have something decent to bundle it with. 4.07 was the last decent release.
IE continues to suck.
A company that I used to work for had our office in the same strip mall as Netscape, we fixed their servers and routers in exchange for coders time (neither of us had any money)

When I started my latest job in July 2001, one of the first things I made policy was not to support Netscape on the webpages I make. I wasted too much time trying to get asp to work properly on both platforms and I finally was able to just say enough is enough. If anyone calls complaining about not working with Netscape I just tell them to get IE and forget about it. Has made my life a lot easier.
Sad part is I was a die hard Netscape user until AOL bought them out. I dumped them pretty quick after that. I got sick of all of AOL's crap cdroms coming in the mail everday.

Netscape was doomed when AOL bought it in the first place.
This deal w/ AOL and MS has no impact on the viability of Netscape, which AOL has never used with their proprietary software.
The analysis i've heard (on TV) is that this deal was essentially done because of Time Warner's media library.
If MS wants to be able to sell online media, they have to pay for those rights. So this is a step in that direction with AOL/TW obviously owning a large amount of media with Warner Bros, New Line, etc.
I was a diehard Netscape user for years, and i have even switched in the last couple of years. I dont even run it in Linux, i go w/ Mozilla.

The good news for AOL users is that their internet browsing may actually work reliably in the near future. AOL has always used IE, but it was displayed within the cluttered aol browser. Conflicts between the two were the leading cause of AOL technical woes. I worked for AOL for a while in college and this problem accounted for approx. 80% of the total calls. Internet novices everywhere rejoice.
Don't blame me if you see my old characters acting like asses.

ASP is evil, people who make the decision to use it should have a pineapple crammed up their pooper everyday before lunch.
Same with MS java, active scripting and all those other insecure MS concoctions that can be be done securely with standards that existed prior to the MS-centric implementation.

Interesting. I'm sure I'd still hate it. My main beef with it before was that, as a programmer, I felt it was way too dumbed down and I couldn't do enough actual programming with it. Give me a language based on C any day, not something that feels like a beefier html.
