How many times have you attempted to quit EQ?

How many times have you attempted to quit EQ?

Post by Brotha »

How many times have you said goodbye to your friends, made a farewell post on your guild's messageboard, then logged out, thinking you'd never come back again, only to log back on shortly thereafter?

Two times for me, second has been successful so far, although the urge to play again is getting stronger and stronger everyday :P.

IMO, quitting EQ is harder than quitting smoking. When I was playing EQ I'd defend to the death the idea that I wasn't really addicted, that I was just "having fun", but now that I look back on it I was most definently addicted, and EQ was starting to be the one thing my life revolved around. I'd even run to the bathroom when I was zoning just to save time. Anyways, this thread isn't about the typical guy who quits EQ then thinks he has life figured out and has to come back to an everquest messageboard to preach the gospel, so I'll stop there =p

I quit EQ for a year and a half.

I never made any 'goodbye' post or told anyone I was leaving.
I got a TL back to kael after we killed Vulak for the umpteeth time, logged out and cancelled my account.

In December, I went out and bought EQ and all the expansions.
Got home, installed the game and reactivated my account expecting all my characters to be wiped.

It took me about a month to get back into it but I'm having a lot of fun playing now. I limit my playing time these days (no fri/sat nights), but I still play quite a bit.
I've got 99 problems and I'm not dealing with any of them - Lay-Z

I tried to quit and failed at LEAST 5 times. The problem was that I still loved the game most of the times I tried to quit. I simply quit because I, open and honestly, did not have the self control to handle ALL of my responsibilities while I played. When the game finally reached a point where it was unbearable to even play, it was easy to walk away and I haven't even thought twice about it since. The previous times I stopped playing it was a constant battle. Lurking forums and guild pages all day at work, etc. EQ, sadly, became a way of life for me after some time. I really did lose my focus on life a time or two. It's not something I regret or something I'm ashamed of, I just chalk it up as a learning and growing experience.

I'm quitting EQ. I've found Jesus, and he tells me that there is no room in my life for this game. He says it's Satan's tool. Also, I'm becoming a priest, so I won't have time to play anymore. I can only hope that my friend Gurugurumaki~ can find Jesus as well.

Not to mention that everyone in my guild is so greedy. Just yesterday, Hayley got a short sword of ykesha, when she had just gotten a Wood Elf Illusion Crown a week earlier. Not to mention that Zygarx ninja'd a Bracer of Infinite Charm later that day.

I can't ever forget how much i hate that asshole Eckolit. Just yesterday, he tried to pick a fight with me. He called my mother a slut, and then I called him a fag. (I'm very clever, aren't I?) But then his friends Mezzdat and Truant joined in and started making fun of me. I thought they were my friends, it really hurt my feelings.

Anyway, fuck everquest. Anyone who plays this game is a fucking loser.

Fuck you to: Eckolit, Mezzdat, Truant, Hayley

Thank you to: Moonhealer, Aireanna, Sparty, Guru

Love and kisses,
Drustwyn

Never tried to quit. Don't really see a reason to. I play when the mood strikes me of late. I have so many other games that keep me occupied. XBox games, Planetside, Day of Defeat, Warcraft 3, Diablo 2. I am more of a game addict than an EQ addict. I even find myself wanting to slip back into Magic the Gathering and am looking at other board games/minature games of late.

I quit twice. I stayed quit the second time. I hadn't really experienced the joys of twinking and PLing, so I came back and got an alt past 50. Then the exp grind got to me again, and I quit again. I just don't have the patience to spend night after night XPing.

I have 300+ days played on Winnow alone but I'm not an EverQuest addict.

Can I go get some more coffee? Is coffee available in EQ? I'd like Winnow to drink coffee while I drink it in RL. Fucking work! If I was in EQ I could check. I might sneak out early....should have called in sick...probably missing a raid.

Twice, first time was around Kunark's release which lasted about three months. The second time was with PoP, so it's been around 7ish months or so. Just got too busy with RL stuff to keep up to date with flagging really.

Still have an account due to EQIM though.

I would have liked to have seen an option at the top of the page that said "Succeeded", because there are a lot of non-players here that continue to post... I'm curious as to how many there are...

Also, I have never tried to quit. I have not quit, I still play.

Once right after Velious, for health reasons,...that lasted 3 months.

The second after I let my temper and various other reasons get to me.

Im back in the game now, after playing AC2, Shadowbane, AO, and DAOC. For me EQ is still the best MMOG out there, with the best people to play it with, however playing with the lower levels can test your patience.

Am I addicted? I don't know, I guess I'm addicted to gameing. (sp?) I have fun, and thats all that really matters I guess.

I quit 3 months before Luclin, came back w/ Luclin. Quit 3 months before PoP, came back w/ PoP. Quit 3 months into PoP for a month. Came back for a month. Quit again, and sold my character to a guildy so I couldn't come back again.

The only reason I started playing again the last two times was to be with friends. I decided that I could still keep in touch with friends without having to fuck up my school work.

Once , I thought about it a couple times , but just didnt. I quit 2 days before the San Fran FF , went to FF and had a blast. Its been 7 months and only had an urge to play about twice , not enough to go buy PoP or load the other expansion (s). No desire to play anymore :) but still much luv for those who do.

I've never tried to quit. I just make sure I never suffer from burnout. I always have a goal, both long term and short term. Every night that I log in to play, I accomplish something, no matter how small. I also log off "guilt free" every night. I don't give a fuck if we're in the middle of a raid or I might be missing out on "uber item 101". When it's time to log, it's time to log.

But when I do leave EQ, it will be fast and easy. I'll go out all nice and quiet then sell my character on Ebay. No fuss, no muss.

i've had periods where i have lowered playtimes dramatically, but i've never quit. i have never fully returned to the 40 hr/wk that i did a couple of years ago, but i simply dont have the time.

but i'm very happy playing EQ at the moment. I like the content we are doing and i like the people I play with. I would like more playtime, but i take what i can get =)

I put down once but I never really "tried" to quit.

I played from beta 3 until feburary 2003...so...a long ass time.

When I played I was pretty hard core...but like a few times I found myself to suffer from burnout...once was after I got MGB because my IRL was sucking bad and I had just gotten done with a period of real high play times (12-16 hours a day for over a month...I was laid off), and there was a period a couple years before that...both lasted maybe a month.

When I quit it was just a combination of burnout + my guild fell apart...no real effort on my end. If my brothers still played I might have gone back, but all my IRL friends/family were burnt as well, so we quit together.

However I am consiously making an effort to not play another MMORPG. So I put down once...

I played all the way through beta and quit about a month after release. I came back about the time RoK was released, and have been playing since.

My play time is way down though, 6 hours a week at most. Other things have become more interesting. It's something to do when it's raining, or I've got an hour before bedtime and nothing good is on TV.

Most of my friends have quit, that took a lot of interest away. Leaving my last (and only) guild took away all the pressure to play excessivly. Even then, when it was time to go to sleep, I'd give them 30 minutes warning and gate out of a raid. Pissed people off more than once, but RL takes precedence.
