Stupid and Tired Thought

Post by Bubba Grizz »

I was thinking back on the fun that I had when I played EQ and was trying to think what zones I felt were the best or most fun for me. I think, in order of preference, that I would choose Sol A, Lower Guk (both sides), and then RunnyEye.

my favorite "dungeon crawl" was moving into the Palace area of chardok and the royals. Was scary and hard as hell.

The best XP dungeon is Howling Stones in my opinion in terms of design as well as fun.

My favorite raid zone probably was PoA, as crazy as that sounds, specifically Bazzats.

I probably have the most fun memories in PoF just because of stupidly insane amounts of time spent there (and the brain is good about forgetting boredom). First time we were able to kill Draco, pulling the temple, trying Cazic with 18 (bind rushing shaman pulling w/ Turgor's!!). Actually learning how to break it was a big rush when it really was executed.

i have lots of fun memories in guk, but mostly cause of hanging out w/ friends there and there was nowhere else to go and the sheer amount of time spent there. not a fun zone w/ 100 people in it though.

Sisters camp in L Fay levels 8-11. The newness of the game, the sense of scale, and hunting w/ the RL g00bs who got me into this was truly cool.

The best dungeon in the game is Guk. Every gimp I've ever PL'ed has done the majority of their levels there. The lewt isn't as hot as it used to be, but I don't think I'll ever get tired of r4p3z0ring frogloks.

Lower Guk - was a blast, spent 38-46(?) in there. SolA runs a close second, both are laid out great and risk/reward is (was) good for the level. I think I went over 500pp for the first time hunting in SolA.

I started playing again right when RoK came out, so I missed the worst of the crowding in LGuk.

HS is great, still one of my favorites to play in. Cool layout and linear progression through the wings, decent loot. Takes too long to get folks in there and rolling though.

I've been living in Chardok for a long time now, solo/partnered/grouped. It's begining to get old. Still a very cool zone in deep. About the same for DN.

Sisters camp in L Fay levels 8-11
Masteen was an uber level 13-14(?) and the rest of us were 9-10. Assling druid leveled faster than we did :P

It was scary and exiting, I'd forgoten all about that. And that ugly ass mustard yellow robe I wore for my first 20 levels. Smoothie still has the robe I think :)

The Sarnak fortress in Lake of Ill Omen. The first time was my first char, a warrior, at level 24. Second time with my enchanter at level 20. Third time, my son's warrior at level 13. The place never gets old. Lake of Ill Omen is a great zone period, so much to camp there for so many levels of players.

As far as my favorite zone now, it would have to be Ssraezsha Temple. So much stuff that 1 group can do there, the farther in, the more dangerous it gets. So many things to kill.

The new Cazic Thule is awesome too...can we please get verant to do what they did with Cazic to say ummm, Kurn's Tower, Befallen, Kaesora, Splitpaw etc. Imagine level 60 gnolls in Splitpaw, that would just be HELLA fun.

I was dissapointed that no frogs were on the moon myself.

The shissar models are probably my second favorite. They need some better noises for them though, or at least let them talk a bit.

Tower of Frozen Shadow is the shit. I loved that zone and have some of my best and worst memories there. Once, my group had a wipeout on the 4th floor right around 1am on a weeknight and it took me about 6 hours to finally get my body back. I looted and went to work, bleh. Good times. 2nd favorite was Crushbone at lvl 8ish. DVinn to zone!

Remember the days of having to kill a shitload of skunks for their bladders so you could buy yourself CLOTH armor. I thought that was the greatest thing...at that time. Now it all seems like a race.

Gotta agree with Raistin, Mistmoore was the shit back in the lvl 20's. If you don't believe me ask Wandering about the night of the Metallica S&M broadcast in November '99

Old Cazic Thule ( Teh Zone). That place was hella fun from level 24ish to about 34 for me and it was when i first started seeing how the classes really worked in conjuction with each other(this was pre kunark). Met tons of friends there. Am I the only one that went "ahhh so thats what an enchanter does" hehe jk. Also there is nothing better than an argument over lower/upper tae!!! at least back in the day....

Oh and yea the early days of Oasis, too. I remember seeing a cleric who was leve well i dunno but he soloed a sand giant, i was like level 12 at the time and was in total awe.l

ahh the good ol days when we were all OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS less jaded! hehe

Unrest

Post by Neziroth »

I remember waaaay back before kunark or anything when lguk was still considered 'uber' and how I couldn't wait to be able to go there, etc. But until that time I settled down in Unrest and to me, unrest was the most scary zone in the entire game.

Remember the dread you felt when you knew there was a festering hag loose in the yard? I wish there was still more of those fear inspiring events in this game. Maybe it was just because i was a noob though =p

And to top off the entire zone, for the average player the house was extremely dangerous unless it was overcamped, so it added a sense of mystery to the whole area.

It'll always be unrest for me

I have yet to set foot in Mistmoore. I was in my early 20's, just discovering the joy of the KFC in SK when RoK came out. I headed to LIO and FM, and didn't look back.

Old skool Cazic gets my vote as the most fun though. I remember camping the lizzie cloak of uberness long, long ago.

rolling up in old cazic with my wurmslayer and people thinking i was a super twink. EQ was still magical and full of things to look forward to when Rekaar and Grakk were slowing gators while i beat them down with my mighty 40 delay 1 hander.
Don't blame me if you see my old characters acting like asses.

i havent been back since the smarter casting hehe. they did or did not nerf NPC enchanter spell resists?

that was even the best thing about it. you'd be lvl 47 or so camping your fangs and inevitably get bored and go try to single pull gypsies or just do something, and next thing you know you are charmed walking through the castle agroing just about everything.

massive train ensues, you get to the zone cause you've been here before, but right before you do, bam The Negotiator charms you.

Hehe so the noob bloodbath was bad enough when it was 20 lvl 35 inkies beating them down. but now there is a lvl 47 ranger w/ 2 yaks destroying them as they scramble to the zone out, or worse yet zone in unsuspecting!!

Low level fun: Crushbone. For sure heh.

Low teens to 30: Ill Omen and Sarnek Fort.

30 - 35: Old Cazic Thule hehe, Steel Golem camp!

35-55 Sol B: Teurde and Gung vs Team Japan. WE SAID STONE SPIDER IS CAMPED YORO YORO ~~ TT -w !

Boy, we showed them.

And 55-60 really best memories come from Chardok, where I dinged to Grandmaster. Doing Fire Giants with 1 group in Sol B, pre-luclin, was always fun too!

These days I'm liking ssra for exp and fun!

My first favorite dungeon was unrest at level 12 in beta.

Then came Cazic at like level 24ish. I so wanted a rubicite BP, never got it. :(

If I were to do it all over again, I would have ninja'd the only time i saw it drop... :D
