Could you become an american citizen.
http://encarta.msn.com/quiz/quiz.asp?QuizID=14

Short quiz with a few questions from the actual test.

Got a 9 out of 11.

I'll never be taking this test but it's cool to know.

Uhhh, that's a pretty simplistic quiz.

I only got number 7 wrong because Canada wasn't on the list.

I was misled by question 1. In school we learned that the white stripes represent purity and the red stripes represent the blood of the soldiers. So I chose the battlefield thing. 10/11 ~~I feel retarded.

Pretty shitty quiz. For example:
4. What did the Emancipation Proclamation do?

a)
It ordered that Pilgrims be freed from British oppression

b)
It ordered that slaves in rebel territory be freed

c)
It allowed citizens of the United States to claim land
This question is a prime example of the misleading and oversimplified nature of the questions on this quiz. Though Lincoln ordered the freeing of slaves within rebel territory, it was more a statement denouncing slavery and and announcement that the Civil War had become a war to decide if slavery would continue. In fact, relatively few slaves were freed until the abolition of slavery with the ratification of the 13th Amendment, nearly three years later. Though, technically, the answer is 'b' the question ignores the real significance of the speech. To me, it's rather sad that someone can become a citizen with such a limited understanding of American history; however, I doubt the majority of naturalized citizens could even pass the test, so I suppose it's better than nothing.

Anyway, enough rambling...I did at least get 11/11 right. :)

The Articles of Confederation was what the US used when it first became a country. That failed because it was basically putting states against each other for taxation and other purposes (huge simplification). So, they wrote the Constitution.

11/11 as well. Also, I am continually amazed at the lack of knowledge about history that people have. Those questions were about at the level of grade 5.

8/11.

The succession thing, the 49th state question and the year the constitution was drafted stumped me.

I will, however, be happy to challenge any reader of this board to a quiz on Danish history!

This is bullshit : The Speaker of the House of Representatives is third in line to running the country if the Pres and Vice President should die? Imagine if Clinton and Gore were dead and our country was handed to Newt Gingrich(?). Scary shit :-x

Don't you remember when Reagan was shot and Bush was on a plane somewhere. Alexander Haig, the then Secretary of State, announced to the world that he was in charge. This was a major no-no as the sucession should have been to Thomas O'Neill, the then Speaker of the House. Anyways, I always found that funny.
