The old school networks don't have a damn clue, IMHO. They focus so hard at getting ratings that the net result is the continuous flow of crap that has no redeeming worth. It's like the student who wastes his energy on trying to figure out what the questions are going to be on the final, instead of just focussing on learning the material.
The poster child for doing it right is HBO. They are one of the few networks truely focussed on consistantly producing quality shows/mini-series/specials (A&E does some nice things, too). The result is they get the viewers. I know lots of people who got cable and HBO just because they wanted to watch their shows.
Now, they work on a different model then broadcast TV, namely, a flat fee to view as opposed to subsidized viewing by means of commercials - selling an ad at a particular timeslot, etc. But the main points remains, if you focus on quality, the viewership naturally follows.
Now, aside from cable shows, I do watch some broadcast TV. Namely, "Scrubs", "Law & Order", football, hockey .... hmm .... I guess that's it.

I am actually looking forward to seeing the new series on Fox that will replace Dark Angel, Firefly.
My favorite shows are Enterprise, Southpark, and Smallville. Well those are the only ones right now that I would set the vcr for. I do like Law & Order in all it's forms and I get a kick out of watching WWF. Other than that I am too busy doing web design and stuff.

tks u guys for hijacking the thread back on to reality tv cause I was getting all confused when the too mucho macho for me guys were talking about the fooseball.
I saw one episode of American Idol and one of the black girls had such a horrendously off pitch voice, I cried, ran away and never looked back. BUT reality tv has this strange grasp on me. I don't tend to watch it on a weekly basis. I wait until the season is over and they play every episode back to back and I waste a saturday afternoon entranced by them. For me, any Real World/Road Rules Challenge > any other reality show.
