stupid webpage, but the point is, that yet again the DoJ is absolutely pissing on the Bill of Rights.

This administration seems to think that it is the grantor of our rights, and not "our Creator".

sure you can always find isolated cases like the above. but this is a pattern of behavior, not isolated stuff.

wow. I don't know what to say, I'm astounded. Part of me is more shocked being confronted by what little naivite I had left concerning civil rights....

Don't you read this messageboard? All arabs are horrible terrorists that hate the US but secretly watch Dallas on their private yachts while holding huge fuckfest orgies and eating McDonalds hamburgers.

Don't turn your back on this fucker for a second. When you do... BAM! He's marrying your pure blooded white women and breeding a whole new line of terrorist suicide bombers within the borders of your own country.

Ashcroft is a dick. The only good thing about him going to Washington is that he got the fuck out of my home state.

It's pretty sad, for sure... but you know the saddest part? I can't say I'm surprised in the least.

On a related note, these buttons could probably raise a good amount of money for their legal fees:

All we need is some Senate tool to start making "terrorist" accusations at anyone the gov't wants blacklisted, and the McCarthy-esque pinko fantasy would be complete.

I am pretty certain this is the attitude of everyone in the US senate, at least half the house of representatives and most of any administration, democratic or republican.

BTW Kyou, honestly answer, have you ever been to Saudi Arabia? Bahrain? UAE? Israel? Jordan? Turkey? Lebanon?

Please indulge us in your well traveled self and present your findings and the things you discovered during your travels and during the time you held jobs in those countries.

Yep, nope, yep, yep, yep, nope. I've also been to Yemen and Egypt. I also live a few blocks away from one of the largest mosques in Canada and work every day with two fairly devout muslims, who to my knowledge aren't terrorists or violent zealots that opress people while holding fuckfest orgies on their yachts.

What would you like to know?

I read on another board that he had donated large sums of money- amounting to well over his annual salary- to some questionable Islamic charities that had ties to terrorism. I don't know any more than that, but if I learn where that was sourced from I'll post it.

Regardless, charge him or let him go.

Too often it seems it is the peaceful and innocent who are slaughtered. In this a lesson may be found that it may not be prudential to be either too peaceful or too innocent. One does not survive with wolves by becoming a sheep.

Should it become relevant I've been to Lebanon (before the civil war, yes I'm old, shaddap), Turkey, and Cyprus, and actually lived in Egypt for 4 years. Never had any problems with the people there, and indeed Egyptians for the most part are disgustingly friendly. They delight in conversation and socialising, and I was often invited back to their homes by shopkeepers or people who joined in while I was talking to shopkeepers , and had more than one invite to a soccer game too. There were some issues with burglary and petty theft when we lived there (understandable given the difference in the average wealth levels), but never any face to face crime. It was a very nice place to grow up in while I was there (age 9-13) even down to a plentiful supply of locally made explode-on-impact firecrackers and a weekly plague of toads (during the weekly irrigation of the town), and I've been back half a dozen times since (which is when the invites etc occurred) and its still a nice country. Its a primarily muslim country, but theyre just people like everybody else. Muslims arent terrorrists. Disgruntled "intellectual" assholes, and ignorant dumbasses manipulated by them are terrorrists, and you can find 'em everywhere, especially in poorer countries where there are more opportunities to be disgruntled. Sad but true.

*Hugs*

i'd love to hear it. all i have heard is that he works(ed? since he hasnt been there in a month+) for Intel, is a professional, etc.

yeah i agree though, if he broke the law, then arrest him, charge him, and give him a trial in accordance with his rights as a citizen of the United States.

The only thing I can find is a reference to $10,000 donated to the Global Relief Foundation.

While that MIGHT make him a sympathizer, it doesn't prove a damn thing beyond that.

Christ I wish someone would just knock Ashcroft down and kick the shit out of him. He is one of the most paranoid and arrogant individuals I have ever had the misfortune to meet.

I would just like to point out that I have been alllllll over de world, braved fierce storms on the Pacific Ocean, faced down a massive Kodiac Bear under the midnight sun, frollicked in carribean sea with naked french girls, marched through the deserts of mexico in 120 degree heat, been entranced by the northern lights on a cold dark night above the arctic circle, ate maggots with an eskimo, and was groped in an elevator by a drunken soap starlett.

Course all of the above could be pure bullshit, something I made up to establish myself as an expert in world climates, wildlife, french girls, and soap opera stars, but hey! that's the beauty of the internet. Nobody here, is exactly what they appear to be.

By the way, french girls have really flat tummies and small perky breasts. Yaaa for the french!

Never been to Yemen, but then again, was never turned on by countries where women have to wear robes and veils.

Am I lying, or am I telling the truth? If I am telling the truth, does that make me an expert on eskimo cuisine?

As far as travel being the pre-requisite for wisdom and understanding, I would like to point out the Christ never walked more than a hundred miles from home, Plato never left Greece, and Confuscious never left China. Whereas, Dan Quayle is quite well traveled....

I digress, I am off topic.

I don't have to read the link. I can tell by watching Ashcroft talk that he is the enemy.

Course, I could tell that about Bill Clinton as well... my hatred of politicians is very non-partisan.

Looks like those pesky civil liberties groups pushed darth ashcroft too hard about him and he pushed back. Those are some pretty fucking weak ass charges. I can't wait til Bush gets booted out of the white house and takes his stupid fucking cronies with him.
Hawash's neighbors became suspicious after the September 11 terrorist attacks and called the FBI, according to the affidavit. One of the neighbors said Hawash, who worked for Intel, was "spending more time at home following September 11, 2001" and "was not as friendly as usual."

"Following a visit by Hawash's mother in the spring of 2001, Hawash changed his attire from 'Western' clothing to 'Eastern' clothing, grew a beard and distanced himself from his neighbors," one neighbor said.

If he was the only one.. heh. There are plenty of others, some who have been kept for 15+ months without being charged. Only difference is that this guy was lucky enough to work for a boss who cared and had friends who made enough of a stink. Just goes to show that making things public is the only way to get the current administration to do the right thing. No real surprise with people like Rumsfeld, Poindexter etc.

in between reminiscing about 3 stooges (w/ shimp no less...) poking each other in the eyes, did it ever flash across that waffle in your head that passes for cortex, that perhaps without such a public outcry about this guy, he still wouldnt have even been charged?

hopefully, one of Ashcroft's ballwashers will snitch you out next, giving you some time in the hoosegow to work up some new material.

though that sounds nice and dramatic, it is really like this. you post crap and somebody might call you on it.

it isnt any more complex than that, though a Right v. Left idiological battle sure sounds more dramatic.

PS the entire point of you having no skeletons in your closet IS IRRELEVANT IF YOU DONT GET A TRIAL TO MAKE THAT CASE!

Yes, it's full of lots of things. It has a lot of art (being why it was in my class, going to school for graphic design)

and ads of upcomming events and lots of other shit.

It's still a valid article, stating a lot about just what that wonderful Patriotic act means, and many things that have happened since it was introdused.

Sorry it's so long, and that I found it in the City Pages.

I guess we will see if the government can produce anything besides hearsay at the trial though.

It wasn't like he was caught in some Taliban training camp in Afghanistan either. The fact that his rights were ignored without that kind of circumstance is not good.
