Reality TV

Post by Bubba Grizz »

Hello, my name is Grizz and I am a semi-addict of a reality tv show called American Idol. I can't help myself. I must watch it every Tuesday and Wednesday. I really think Tamira has the best voice but I have the hots for Kelly in a big way. While Christina is goddess, her voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard at times. *gave myself goosebumbs just thinking of that as I typed it*

TV will rot your brain.

Turn on some music or something.

Reality TV = garbage. I can't stand it... any of it.

TV in general, other than PBS, Discovery Channel and such is pretty much all crap. Including our (so-called) news programs, that really don't tell you anything.

I never stated that I like Costner (though I do). And I have never entertained the thought of watching shows like Survivor, Big Brother, The Mole, Real World, or Road Rules. I accidently got hooked on American Idol but I don't really mind it. At first it was like when you flip through channels on the tv and suddenly hit something like Jerry Springer. It's like a fly stuck on fly paper. Try as you might to change the channel you are stuck.

The only other show like this that I did actively want to see was Tough Enough. That is the show where a bunch of people want to become professional wrestlers with the WWF. Damn, you'd think I lived in a trailor park someplace instead of in the burbs.

TV = the suck.

I connect our cable every year for football season and the WNBA playoffs, then disconnect again.

No urge to waste my time watching over-sensationalized news or gooey sitcom humor.

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL IS BACK!

Even if it is just exhibition games. NY and Houston looked decent until late in the 3rd quarter. Game didn't get pre-season sloppy until the 4th quarter actually....

ABC could hire Jebus Himself to do the commentary for MNF, but if they get stuck with more barnburners like Wash/Dallas last year, ratings will continue to plummet.

On the whole, I am totally pumped for the NFL. Spurrier is gonna open many eyes, and the thoought of the Buccaneers with a working offense is just scary.

On the college football scene, how in the FUCK can an FSU team that lost 4 games last year, including 2 conference losses in the gimp-ass ACC be ranked #5?

I am going to miss Dennis Miller in the box on Monday Nights. I am so happy with the restructuring. Now I can cheer for the Buccs without feeling guilty (Cheese Head Packer Fan). Wow, we hijacked my own thread and turned it into a Football Thread. Cool.

When it comes to TV, Fox simply rocks. As we were watching that new show, 15 Seconds to Fame, my friend said something that is really true.

It was something like "Fox really knows what the viewrs of today want. They keep it simple, they keep it fast, and they keep it weird."

I watch American Idol on occasion. I when I say watch, I mean it's on TV while I'm at my computer and the remote is too far away to actually go get and change the channel. From what I have seen, I thought it was entertaining enough. I like how they are forcing the contestants to sing a different genre of music every week to test ther range and ability. It seems genuinely challangeing because the style of music greatly influences how much the person will suck.

I also watch Survivor every season. My GF and I have another couple that comes over every Thursay and we play cards/dominos/board games and order out. It's more of an excuse to get together more than anything though. We also have a a nice gambeling system that was up to 85$ last season. I lost, as I do every fucking year.

They'll do something to blow it, just you wait. They have potential but...

I was so glad when I moved 20 miles west and couldn't hear the idiotic freakin cannon from that goofy ass pirate ship at the stadium anymore.

I'm gonna miss Dennis as well Grizz. I fucking hated monday night football before he was hired. We used to watch it on mute and listen to the sports radio station instead.

His HBO show has been cancelled as well, which is sad, considering his is one of three tv shows I actually turn my tv on for anymore.

Anyways, I haven't been following preseason, and I should. My fantasy baseball team is in first which has been occupying my attention. But we jump straight into fantasy football, so I really gotta keep up.

MNF has been going down in ratings for the past 8 years.

i'm not sure why, but i don't think it has anything to do with the composition of their hallowed "booth".

i personally think the conversations that people had about MNF are comical. Spouting terms like "the 3 man booth" like it is some kind of tactical innovation.

we will have 3

not 2

3 is more than 2

they will talk about football

but 3 times as much as one person does.

it is the 3 man booth.

i'd say the decline in MNF ratings is a direct result of the increase in cable channels available that let you watch six games a day, every day......

Okay, first off, everyone who acts all high-and-mighty about tv being teh sux can kiss my hairy beanbag. You're just being pretentious, not all TV is bad. Unfortunately most entertaining television isn't as intellectually stimulating as smoking your pipe and discussing philosophy, but if that is what you are looking for WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU READING THIS MESSAGE BOARD RIGHT NOW?!? The half-wits that inhabit all message boards on the internet will rot your brain much faster than watching anything on TV. And yeah I don't burn a lot of calories watching tv, but neither do you while you're playing video games. If I wanted to burn calories, I'd masturbate. Unfortunately, I'm at work so that's going to have to wait... but I digress.

Reality TV is awesome because you get to see just how ridiculous people are. Perhaps you often get to deal with overly catty sorority girls or gay guys that are FAR too proud of being gay or other attention whores that think being on television is a good idea for improving their self-image. I don't, so reality TV is a decent surrogate.

My new favorite is that Meet My Folks show. Or possibly Dog Eat Dog, but that's only because the chick on it is smoking hot. But I enjoy them all, from Real World to Who Wants to Marry a Megalomaniac, they are all pretty entertaining in their own way.

Don't confuse people's ennui with baseball as loss of interest in sports.

Watching a bunch of overpaid juicers who whine about only making 1.5 million a year while ticket prices are too high for the average family of 4 to afford is bullshit.

Watching a bunch of tough motherfuckers who earn every dollar they get paid in sweat and blood talk about victories and championships is fucking grand!

MLB season: 162 games

NFL season: 16 games

Seeing a game that composes 6.25% of the reg. season is worth much more than seeing a game that composes 0.62% of it.

I'll shell out to watch a couple Bucs games, while no baseball team will ever see my money again.

I watched the first episode of American Idol when the real crap acts got cut. It was fun watching that british fucker rip into people and make them cry. Then he cooled down and I lost interest.

I don't watch much TV, but I do have a sick and unexplainable fascination with Boston Public. I also watch Family Feud when I'm cooking dinner. Other than that if I am watching TV it's usually because there is nothing else to do and I will just turn on the discovery channel or TLC. I love TLC; they always have those documentaries on military hardware that George C. Scott hosts, and those surgery shows r l33t.

They should make a reality TV show called "EQ - Umm the game!" and it would be 1 hour of watching someone play EQ.

Most of the contestants would be older men in their underwear and a dirty wife beater shirt eating nachos and drinking soda pop.

They can even interview them after a mob kill. Kinda make it more then it is!

Question: How did you kill that wyvern?
Fat Man 3: I have leet dr00d skills. Basicly I try and think like a wyvern. I'd be like "Ouch something hit me! I want to kill whoever/whatever hit me." See so now I know that the wyvern wants to kill me.. so I use this information against it!! These are the strategies I read about when I purchased "How to get phat rewts" from playerauctions. It also showed me the way to richs of kael armor. Didn't cost me all that much!

The issue with television today that is brought up here is the fact that a lot of things we've seen already.

All of these providers provide you with 300 channels...of nada. Face it most people like a few types of shows then just kinda stick to that kinda stuff. The Game Show Network was genious becuz a lot of people like those. Personally I hate those reality shows becuz most of them are panzy asses who cry about every little thing. Toughen up! Yeah okay so I wouldn't exactly be eating bull testicles but damn since when is eating bull balls entertaining. I can never get enough of the old Bugs Bunny but some of the other new cartoons are degrading....

I have never been a fan of reality TV, since the first days of Survivor: the idea of building partnerships to destroy/betray them later for a cash payoff doesn't sit well with me.
i love my free Braves tickets personally
Thats a major sticker for most people Voro: you are getting for free, what most have to pay through the nose for. I am not condemning you for it, but it is an expense that most other fans have to deal with and thus diminishes their enjoyment (or limits the time they can partake).

As far as MNF, I think part of the problem is that there IS a general ennui with professional sports, centered more around baseball than others, but still present. People DO resent $50+ tickets where the proceeds go to athletes making a couple million a season when they are busting their humps to make many times less. They see the drug scandals, the domestic violence episodes, the other high profile crimes and it all sort of builds into negative feeling to the sports (maybe not from a specific incident, but as a whole).

And fans are finding other things to do, be they EQ, coaching little Johnny in soccer, going to a movie/play, whetever, because they are more affordable, with less negative baggage.

i wouldnt exactly call Milwaukee a good baseball town.

in fact milwaukee is the giant massive tumor on the body that is baseball.

nothing against the city, but against the corrupt commissioner's office, the conflict of interest that exists between the commisioner and the front office of the Milwaukee Baseball Club, the manner in which the team pretends to lose money to avoid investing in on-the-field-talent, even after extorting a new stadium from the community.

Bud Selig is an advocate for the owners. They love him as comish because he is a greedy asshole, just like them. The players hate and mistrust him, not because he's greedy, but because he is an owner.

The players are protected by the union, the owners are protected by the commisioner. Who is protecting the game itself? Apparently noone, and baseball is dying because of it.

Gratz, baseball hijack!

I don't watch much t.v. and when I do its usually a good sit-com or maybe a drama. Frazier and re-runs of Cheers are good. Star Trek is good. Law and Order is good. Comedy Central has several good shows like the Man Show, the Daily Show, and decent stand-up. I also sometimes watch certain cartoons on Cartoon Network. Dexter's Lab and Johnny Bravo crack me up. Tom and Jerry still to this day makes me laugh even tho I've seen every episode.

As far as sports go Football is an arm and leg above every other sport. Those men are gladiators. To compare them to the male soap-opera that is professional wrestling is to not understand the difference between a real competitive war-type game and a bunch of no-talent actors pretending to be wrestling.
They see the drug scandals, the domestic violence episodes, the other high profile crimes and it all sort of builds into negative feeling to the sports
In anything that is in the lime-light of the public there will be scandals. There are scandals in Hollywood and in Politics and while it may turn people off to these things, I just don't think it is that too many people who watch sports are gonna stop b/c of the latest scandal.

Now to the real issue in this thread. The Bucs are looking really good as are the Eagles. I'm looking forward to our fantasy draft this year. 6 years and I still haven't won the championship yet. This is gonna be a very exciting year considering the new divisions in the NFL and the new rivalries that will form up.

College football? All I got to say is that the Big 12 has 4 teams in the top 8.

College football? All I got to say is the Big 12 has 3 overrated teams!

But OU does own, and if their offense can successfully not suck this season, they have a very legit title shot.

Big 12 may have 4 top 10 teams

but the Big East has 1 top 1 team.

Hurricanes are still the best team, and the bad news for the rest of you is they will be better next year than this year.

God i wish Steve Spurrier was still in Gainesville. About 4 weeks now till UF gets mowed over, and nobody will be kicking their visor up and down the sidelines. But it will still be worth watching.

the Big 12 brand of football cannot compete with teams like Miami. Eric Crouch ran all over the Big 12 last year, and he got his ASS handed to him by the Canes, giftwrapped, ducktaped, weathersealed, and postmarked.

if your team runs the option, you suck.

I will be very suprised if the 'Canes don't drop a game or two. The offensive line took some hits, and w/o the comfort of having Shockey to dump the ball to, Dorsey is gonna take some hits. His durability has never been tested, so I hope he bulks up and renews his prescription for perkis over the summer

Andre Johnson is the best wide receiver in the country and he is back.

Miami may very well lose a game this year. They play at UF and Tennesee, and those are easy places to lose a game. FSU has apparently reloaded, and that is no cake walk.

Actually Dorsey has apparently bulked up some, because they graduated 4 offensive linemen. THey lost 4 starters in the secondary but their Defensive line is back and insanely good, so even if guys get open in the secondary it won't matter cause the QB will be dead :p

but your comments are dead on Masteen. They have some talent to fill the holes that are there, but you never know how those guys will respond. Walter Payton's son has yet to prove himself at RB, but he will be starting this year.

You guys have the best QB in Grossman, he was amazing last year, and got totally jobbed on the Heisman.

Vor are you from GA? I lived in Athens for a year and I have to say those people in GA are fanatical about their sports teams. Starting with peewee football. I never saw such a turn out for a middle school game before either. You'd think it were the NFL Playoffs or something.

i'm not originally from here, but did go to High School here. My high school won the state championship like 2 of the 4 years i was there, so yeah i know how fired up people get about that shit down here :P

in atlanta, it's not so big as it is in the small towns, cause obviously there is other shit to do on Friday nights besides hit the DQ or go to the football game!

edit: i'm getting worse and worse at spelling

Don't even get me started on FS-fuckin-U! Bowden has more sports writers lined up to suck his cock than I can count. His team lost FOUR fucking games last year, and failed to win the ACC crown. Don't even tell me tha ACC was strong last season, because the Gators were handing the ACC champs PIECES of their ass after the Orange Bowl!
