Keyboard Recommendation

Post by Voronwë »

Well last night in a spazz, i knocked a glass of water onto my keyboard.

i've been using an MS Natural Elite for awhile, and I am pretty pleased with them.

was looking for recommendations for other stuff since i'm buying now. Looking for ergonomics as well as quiet operation (MS is kinda loud). Also not looking to pay a stupid amount of money (since i'll fuck the next one up somehow too.)

thx info!

The loudness, and the fact that I use a laptop most of the time at work led me away from my MS Natural Elite/Pro/Web/Uber keyboard to a wireless logitech that was only about $30. It has a softer keyboard touch much like a laptop, and it's wireless.

I'd highly recommend going somewhere like Best Buy and testing out each keyboard to see which one has the feel you like.

Of course if your geek threshhold is not working properly, you might end up with something like this:

at least you didn't destroy with a mighty chop!

as far as good high tech new kb's, i have no idea...I use an old non split keyboard, because i'm picky about low resistance and low action keys.

I use the old IBM 101 key keyboards. I scavenged some at my last job because they work for me. I like how the keys fall for me and its comfortable for me. Now at my new job, there is lots of IBM stuff, so I've scavenged a few more. I have 5 or more, and will always probably use these. I like the clicky ones, not the 'soft type' ones.

One more thing. Wireless keyboards are love, but wireless mice are fucking evil.

Much <3 for my MS Office Keyboard. It has the scroll, C/C/P functions that make surfing the net and playing games a joy.

$25.00 at BB about 6 months ago. I think they're normally $40ish, but I got mine on sale.

Logitech are good. I have the Internet Navigator Logitech, and it has a good design for me. The only annoying part is that you have to activate the F-lock to use the F1, F2, etc.. keys. It can be really annoying when playing EQ if you forget to press the F-Lock and your e-mail or My Pictures folder opens.

I have an IBM USB keyboard w/ built in USB hub that's pretty nice. I ordered it directly from the IBM website, so no touch testing possible, but it's very much like a laptop keyboard in noise and feel.

Aranuil, I was looking at that keyboard the other day. My inner geek demands satisfaction!

BTW, if anyone knows of a wireless mouse that doesn't lag on first movement after inactivity, I'm interested. FPS games just don't play well with the lag found on current wireless mice.

Wrong. That may have been the case but the Logitech MX700 is just plain awesome. The difference being it operates 800dpi. It has a charger cradle that you place the mouse on once every night or two when you go to bed.

Old cordless mice suck something aweful. Once you use the MX700, there's no going back. Highly accurate and instant response time.

read this article:

http://www.3dxtreme.org/logitech_mx700_p1.shtml

I highly recommend it.

Sweet. You have no idea how happy it would make me to be wrong. I have a wireless intellimouse explorer that I loved the form factor of, but it got moved to the office because it's fucking useless for gaming. I'll definitely check out the MX700. Thanks, Winnow.

Edit: That article was great until the guy said he was a big fan of Windows ME. >< I'll probably still check out the mouse.

My roomie uses the MX700, he and I are both avid FPS players, and he's never complained about any lag problems with it.

I use a $10.00 CompUSA brand black keyboard. Nothing special about it except for the fact that it is QUIET AS HELL. My old keyboard has a whole slue of features, but it was loud and pissed off my wife big time. Quiet > all. :-D

Yeah, that one is better. I didn't take the time to read the entire article. I looked to be sure the hard data was included in the article.

2 friends that have stopped by my place have purchased the MX700 after using it themselves. Fry's Electronics has it for 69.00 now I think.

Same problem I encountered. I have the Logitech Elite or something. Hate that! Actually I don't even use it. Went back to an old Compaq keyboard. I like it because it's compact. Using the Logitech I didn't like the crap on the sides and top. Keys weren't where I remembered them being.

I don't use a cordless mouse but I have a Logitech MX-300 mouse. Same basically except it has a cord. It's nice and responsive so I can recommened it on that basis.

I think the MX500 is the corded version of the MX700 Asl. I'll check!

edit: it appears the MX300 has the same optical engine while the MX500 has the same buttons as the 700. Should perform the same for accuracy : )

Well whatever. Other than more buttons you probably dont need, all three are basically the same underneath.
