Yea I played it for a few days. They had a free trial period but I'm not sure if they still do. Honestly I just got tired of picking up grass, mud, and clay all for nothing more than to make bricks to build stuff. If you're really into tradeskills in EQ you might actually enjoy this. There was no combat from what I saw though. [-(

Yeah it says no combat, unless you consider "combat of wits." I really dig tradeskills, so I'm going to check it out. (I'm also an ancient Egyptian art/history buff)

I like how society actually evolves technologically as the universities collect enough "research money" to discover new skills.

I didn't enjoy it personally... I'm not a tradeskill person, tho.

I'm the same way. I was in the beta and I could definitely see the niche for a game like that, but tradeskills don't really appeal to me. I mean playing a game that is nothing but trade skills I would rather pick up a craft hobby irl and just do that.

I couldn't find a real compelling thing to hold my interest. Although it's nice to see companies try new things other than "It's like EQ, but..."

I have some RL pals that absolutely hated EQ, but are totally cracked out on ATITD. It's just a chatroom with a different kind of game to play. I had a lot of fun with ATITD for the first couple of months of beta. There was like 6 of us RL pals who had a guild and we would play together etc. If we would have expanded our socializing beyond just our friends, I probably would still play from time to time.

Here's one that I'm sure you're drooling over!

Fishfactory Sim!

-Avoid killing dolphins in the nets for Greenpeace faction points
-Gut tuna in real time or have the sim manage the process for you
-Play the Seal Clubbing game (like Gems in EQ) while waiting for the crew of your boat to sober up in the morning.
-Participate in bar room brawls while on shore leave while finding new crew members.
-Choose to be Canadian or American and then try to rape the other country's resources without being caught

Make it so!

I played for a month and got bored. It got to be too much of a pain in the ass to constantly try adn feed my sheep. Also I like games that you can solo play and get something accomplished. It isn't possible in this game. The customer support was top notch though. When ever I had a problem they were right on top of it. What killed the game for me was that I liked to solo and had built a lot of stuff while going along the architecture path. Only two steps into the path though they wanted you to build a huge obelisk. The problem though was that the size of obelisk you had to build had to be bigger than anyone elses in a certain size area. Last I looked I would of had to have like 20000 bricks (this was several months ago) and I just gave up at that point.

They do let you play for a week for free but that is about the most enjoyment you will get out of it.

Ancient Civilizations have always held my interest. In college, I used my electives to take courses on Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece along with the History of the Peloponnesian War.

good stuff. :)

The ancients are the best. Paleolithic art and research is probably my favorite (altho Egypt is closer to my heart for personal reasons) and I am totally enamored with the Minoans.
