If it takes too much effort to clicky, Penny Arcade made fun of American Mcgee with some characters owned by American Greeting Corporation, funny strip, can see it at the first link. Penny Arcade caved for now and pulled it while they see what options they have available.

Seriously though, it's fair use. It's how 8-bit theater makes it's entire comic based off of FF1 characters. Sorry but I do have to call bullshit here...
