I get this OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS, as well as "How can a guy from Arkansas know how to read and not sleep with his sister?".Humfrey wrote:Having spent much of my youth living in Philly, and being a Flyers fan myself, I still can't get how a guy from Arkansas can be a Flyers fan.
Simple answer is nobody will ever know.

To indulge my gnomish friend, I have a very very odd taste in my favorite pro sports teams, here we go:
Football: Broncos, fan since 1983 or so. I don't remember why really...

Basketball: Lakers, well it almost makes since since I do live in LA, but I liked them forever. Probably due to Magic and Kareem.
Baseball: Mets. I never liked baseball until I saw Darryl Strawberry knock a towering homer and saw Dr K throw a cocaine-riddled hook that made Wade boggs knees shake.
Hockey: Flyers, of course. My uncle bought me a Flyers hat when I was a kid and I guess it stuck....
Make sense? Fuck no. Either way, I go to 3 Dodger games a year just to find the Mets fans and start the "Dodgers suck" chants in my hometown

EDIT: And Ron Hextall was the pwn

Although Ottowa kicked the shit out of Philly last playoffs, I think the Flyers will bring a bit more to the ice this time.
BTW: That is a ridiculously good looking avatar, Xou

Sickening, isn't it? The only thing worse is bandwagoners who jump off when their team loses.Canelek wrote:Speaking of the Disney Ducks, it is funny how many Ducks fans have all of sudden appeared around town....much like how all the Angels fans crawled out of the woodwork when they went to the Series....heh

Rather lose 4 straight by one goal than get blown out by 5 goals in a game 7.Atokal wrote:Yeah well at least they didnt get owned like the geriatric Detroit Dead ThingsSwept 4 straight.

I actually felt bad for Belfor. He seems to get a ton of jeers wherever he goes(like many high-profile goalies, of course). Poor guy looked wrecked after the 3rd goal indeed...
At Staples (LA Kings rink), on the jumbotron, they like to put Eric Cartman on in a Kings uni to start off the Bel----for or Pat----rick [Roy] chants... kinda funny actually, but it is definately good ammo for the homecourt advantage..

Few netminders have put so much heart into the game. I was sad to see him go. "Eddie the Eagle" will always be the first person I think of when I when I hear the word goalie.
Did you know he set a record as the goalie with the most penalty minutes in the 93-94 season, with over an hour of penalty minutes? rofl The guy had spunk.
Edit: Anyone else hear the Gretzky interview on Stern this morning? lol

There's a reason he gets jeers. I have no pity for him.Canelek wrote:I actually felt bad for Belfor. He seems to get a ton of jeers wherever he goes(like many high-profile goalies, of course). Poor guy looked wrecked after the 3rd goal indeed...
Make no mistake, he's good...but he's a pompous, arrogant, fuck. He's unstable, and he thinks he's god on hoverskates. He shouldn't be allowed to speak to the press because more often than not, he makes a really out there statement that makes him look like an ass. His penalty minutes are oft way out of line, beyond defending himself, or declaring his territory so to speak...many of them were flagrant.
I was glad to see him leave Dallas...because I have respect for the Dallas team.
This time of year 4 games, 5 games, 7 games... it all means the same thing: YOU LOSE and don't get a chance to go any farther into the dance.Yeah well at least they didnt get owned like the geriatric Detroit Dead Things Swept 4 straight.
All thats left is to cheer for Canada's Team: Vancouver

What a whacky playoff year, especially out west. I have no idea who to pick next round in my office tournement.
BTW, I think I will jump on the Ducks bandwagon, too, because I like their goaltender ... and I have no one left to root for: Bruins->gone, Leafs/Wings->gone, Colorado (still some residual love back from when Ray was with the team)->gone. I gotta pull for someone, so it may as well be them.

I think it's great for the game. Legacies are boring for everyone else but the home team. Now, like football, there seems to be some interest in the playoffs.
I can't stand the Flyers but they did look very good on the ice these last two nights. Really shouldn't have even gone to game 7 to be honest.

I think you messed up on the thread title there....it should say
GO WILD!!!!11!!!! HOLY SHIT!
Much love for the hometeam, I jumped right on that bandwagon three years ago. Wait a second....the Wild's only been around for 3 years! HOLY SHIT, they can only get better. I'm not gunna say they're going all the way this year. They've done way more then expected of them by now. I can see a big W coming some time in the future!

omfg... I still can't believe that OT goal in Colorado... was like the McDonalds commericial a few years ago where Roy was supposed to face a_random_member_of_the_public on a 1 on 1 and the guy tripped over the blue line and still scored... this time he went down before Brunette got to the circle?

Well, the Blues are out. They had their chances, but it did not work out. Vancouver might have gotten the wakeup call and could be very dangerous.
No love here for Belfour. Guy is one of the biggest cheapshot goalies in the game and I have often seen him slash players when he thought he could get away with it.
I used to really hate him when he was with Chicago. That was back in the good old days of the "Chicago Hat trick" which was Tony Twist (or whoever the enforcer was for St. Louis) beating the crap out of Probert, Brett Hull scoring, and St Louis trashing the Hawks.
As far as I am concerned, Dallas and the Lanche can go join the Blues and the Deadthings on the golf course.. let some new blood in there to battle with the east. Seems like Dallas, Colorado or Detroit are the ones that have represented the west for a good long time.

I would like to officially welcome Canelek and the other Flyers fans to the "Hi! My team is on the golf course" Club.
This invitation is also cordially extended to all the Stars fans out there as well.
It sucks but there is always next year (or next century if you're unfortunate enough to be a Leaf fan...
