Just Twelve Steps....

Post by Adelrune Argenti »

to kick EQ.

http://www.olganon.org

Go read in the forums for a bit on the people who have problems. I guess we need a 12 step program for all self control issues now.

Seems they are getting you to trade your online "addiction" for religious fixation.

I do not get it...
I do not understand why people need to constantly turn to god to solve their problems. No wonder he sends people to hell, we only come to him when we need him.
Well that and we have people like Dev who rape chickens and RZ ;)

Pay attention to one of the names in the forums who seems to run most of this, Liz Wooley.

Also, they want you to send them your broken game CD's. However I think I am calling bullshit on this post. Sounds way too contrived and made up.

BY THE WAY

Elizabeth Woolley who plays a huge role in this website is the same person who claims EQ is responsible for her son's suicide.

That's all those 12 step programs are. It's pretty much BS in my opinion, although there are some people out there with no spine what so ever.

I think online gaming has wrecked enough lives to warrant something like this, just not this specific organization, because it's a shitty one. Frankly I'd rather level another character to 65 and a hundred billion AA or however many you need now to not suck, than I would hang out on some shitty EZBoard with a bunch of neo-christians talking about higher powers and spiritual guidance.

Liz Wooley should be thrown in prison as accessory to muder for allowing her manic despressive and schizophrenic son to live by himself when he had such serious mental problems, and in such deplorable conditions.

I see no issue with the post other than the premise that people require God to intervene in order to stop playing EQ. I have a problem viewing people as "addicted" to an online game. We as a society have become far to dependant on attaching disorders to people who don't seem to fit a cookie cutter mold. People were made to be different. Wow.. What a friggin astonishing concept. Uh oh.. little Jimmy looks a little down. His girlfriend dumped him.. He must be depressed.. We should give him prozac. WTF?
I do believe in God, so sure... He can help people through their tribulations.. But please. He is required to get people out of something they enjoy doing? Are we that weak as a species that we have absolutely no control over our own actions? Are we cattle? We need someone to steer us every inch of the way?
People like this give religions a bad name.

There are people who are more prone to becoming addicted to things. However, I think a game addiction is better than some of the alternatives although no addiction is really good for anyone.
There is also a difference between being addicted and using it as a crutch. Games can allow you to escape from some pretty unhappy circumstances. I dont necessarily think that is such a bad thing.

Not everything needs a 12 step program. What we actually need is more people to take responsibility for their actions and realize they have some self control issues.

EQ can be addicting, I think most of us would be outright liars if we said otherwise, but so can almost ANYTHING in this corporate world. Fast food, television, pornography, drugs, alcohol, you name it, it can be addictive. Do they all need these programs to try and kick the habit? If people use them, then I'd have to say yes. I for one don't think I would go to a support group. Maybe I found Jesus sub-conciously, but thankfully I managed to kick the EQ habit pretty smoothly ;)

HE DIED FOR OUR SINS!

Where the fuck did that come from? Oh shit...

Tell Mrs. Wooley to record how many hours a week the television runs in her household, then come talk to me about my Everquest "addiction".

I agree with Dregor. There are people that find EQ addicting because it provides instant gratification and an escape from stress. Most people that I know of play EQ, work and have a family play due to it lets them beat the hell out of something and not go to jail for it.

You are responsible for your own actions in life and to blame a game is sad. Sorry he lost everything but it is no ones fault but his own =(

I know many who play this game also who have a happy married life and kick ass job. It doesn't affect them.

Many times I would forget to eat and drink because I was so consumed with this game.
If his wife is such a great cook and cooks such great food for him why not bring the food \ drink into the room with his comp?! I can honestly say, though I am REALLY addicted to EQ, I never "forget" I am hungry or thirsty because of it  .
even dying in this game is scary, the penalty for it is quite severe.
OMGZ I am gonna lose .2% exp and have to wait on a rez or just find a cleric to rez me! :( so terrible! So SEVERE!

I am a christian and I kinda feel like this game is being placed before God and I think that's what worries me the most.

HAHAHAHA!

You know, someone should tell this lady that during the Crusades, the Inquisition, Salem Witch Trials, etc, God was put before man (Excuse me, God's will as interpreted by man), and no only did that scare people but they died too.

Just like someone does when they cry bloody murder at another guilds raid, and aligns himself along the viewpoint of those who oppose the sword award in order to garner support for the simple fact that you're a panty-sniffing pathetic excuse of a man whose co-dependent girlfriend can't even stand up for herself when there's more than just you and her in a virtual room? Don't think that just because you embed an insult with a praise for killing RZ that I'm going to leave you alone. Dumbass.

My exact thoughts..

I can't stand that lady and the correlations that she draws between 'bad behaviors' and Everquest/online games. Correlation does not necessarily establish causation of problems (i.e. her son).

Worked full time, enjoyed friendships, college full time (4.0 Honors nerd), AND playing Everquest shitloads... Obviously EQ has ruined my life....gah

Jesus H. Christ Dev, I was not at your fucking Grummus raid. Likewise the above quote concerning you and the illicit chicken fuck that you were rumored to engadge in is a joke, a play upon your reputation as a chicken fucker, ya know.
And guess what? I was being sincere about the gratz, as I got to watch you fuck up about 50 times prior, so I know you earned it ;)

Gratz again BTW :D
