Miss the Texans already Mezz? :D

That reminds me, when are we going to have Texas Gathering Part 4? I'd invite everyone to Houston, but I don't think anyone could handle how excitingly fun Houston is (/sarcasm off).

Jen, I will have a Texas gathering at Vinhs or Scotts or anywhere really, and at any time... Your only job is gettint Thelissa up off her ass for once... ALSO! I'm TRYING to plan for the 4th at the lake.

I'm in San Antonio myself. If the Texas wanted a get together Austin would probally be the best bet since it's pretty easy to get there from everywhere in Texas.

Hrmmm...we really should have another small gettogether at my house in Austin. Don't do anything big though. Lounge at the pool during the day and hit 6th street at night? Would the end of April be too early?

Sadly she isn't... she's talking about when the grouping of us were faced with dire circumstances. A tree came rushing at us at 0.25mph, we faced a decision, our lives, or the beer. Thank god for Velesca, she dove from her speeding tube into the raging water, comming up for air only at the last moment she was able to quell the out of control beer tube. Sadly we had lost a few during the initial confusion, Pubin was no where to be found and Hayley was bobbing for air in my tube... I'll never forget that most exciting of days, when the raging river almost claimed us all as victoms... Do we dare brave the maelstrom again?

Seeing Velasca draped over the cooler, floating towards us, was the most hysterical moment of the trip, the 2nd being when SOMEONE popped his tube

Ever hear one of those tubes explode? I remember hearing what I though was a gunshot and looking over to Mezz sinking with the wilted wreckage, a puff of smoke still lingering...

I won't even get into what happened with the 2nd tube he managed to procure....Lets just say it was returned with no air in it too.

Okay question to those Rudy bar-b-que fans. I live 20 minutes from Rudy's, eaten the brisquet and ribs. What is with people who don't live in San Antonio and Rudy's?

I believe the message is supposed to convey that Rudy's isn't very good, and people that live inside San Antonio limits know this, but people outside think it's god on stilts.

Partially correct Boogahz, there are better places than Rudy's here in San Antonio. (Like the County Line) I have relatives that want to eat at Rudy's everytime they come down here and at Christmas I have to bring a case of the sauce with me when we go to Nacodoches. I just don't understand what the big deal is about Rudy's lol.

I agree with you completely Axien! There are both a Rudy's and a County Line here in Austin and I'd choose the County Line over Rudy's any day. Something about fast food bbq just rubs me the wrong way. It's like saying the Olive Garden has the best Italian food. Blech

Hayley you are a woman of fine choice :) But if people want Rudy's I can get a couple of bottles of the sauce for you guys. Sorry I would get the BBQ but I'm not driving to Austin with the possiblity of the sauce getting all over my car.

The 2nd annual "River Trip" probably won't be till some time in August (probably early August) as a lot of folks make summer plans during June and July. Just keep your fingers crossed for some good rainfall around that time. :)

Rudies has the jalepeno sausage... Has the best of sauces... Has well cooked and well choosen meats... and it all comes in a crate. How much better does it get? Oh, I did forget about the cheese slices and the fact that it's 0.25 minutes from Hayleys house. We have some BBQ up here in OK that I would consider as good, but they don't have the sausage with the jalepenos!

Now, regarding the river trip do we need to shoot for a early August weekend for those that have school? Or is holland going to require a late August weekend?

Also! Fort Worth get together within 4-5 weeks, Hayley and Lala plan accordingly! We'll discuss actual dates soon! If anyone else wants to come, you are welcome, we just may have to get a hotel.

I don't have any summer plans so you guys just tell me when and where to go. I'll get Bakara to bring his massage table :)

Any of you had Bodacious Barbeque in Tyler? It's right off of 20. Stopped there on the way to a camping trip a couple of weeks ago. It was pretty damned good. Although I was pretty hungry.

There was a kick ass place we stopped at outside of Austin on time when we went to party on 6th street. In Roundrock(?) I think. God I can't remember the name.

Still, the best BBQ places are never chains, IMO. The best BBQ comes from the little BBQ shacks on the side of a farm-to-market road. Mom and Pop operations have everything to lose, so they usually do everything they can to ensure good stuff.

Yeah Brit, but them Texans can't barbecue!

Hop a plane, meet you at Gates Barbecue in Kansas City.

And beef should be seared fast, then cooked over a slow flame to juicy medium rare perfection, not slobbered over with sauce like a lesser meat.

Sure thing Lalanae:

Sirloins, cut 3/4' inch thick. cleaned and boned.

Grill, hot enough to sweat the paint off a two-dollar hooker.

Two mintues on a side, then move em down to the other end of the grill over banked coals where they can warm through without drying out.

When the middle is two shades beyond pink, off onto a platter. Serve still smoking with a fresh cucumber salad and a potato big enough to give Texas an inferiority comlex.

NOTE: Nowhere is barbeque sauce mentioned. A pinch of salt if you must. Save the sauce for the pig. Putting ketchup and molasses over good beef is a crime against humanity.

And I still say y'all ain't right for hosting a summer get-together in Texas. 8)
