Looking to buy new computer..could use some assistance....

I'm trying to get a new computer and looking for good deals. My 400mhz 4 year old comp just doesnt cut it anymore.../sigh 3+ years of EQ staring at the ground. Anyhow...

Some specs im looking for are ~2.5g, 512MB ram, CD & CD-RW, 128MB graphics and the basic things like USB and crap. I DONT need a monitor or anything, just need a complete tower itself.

IF anyone knows where i can find good deals on something like this or a place where i can customize one with those specs for good deals, plz do tell. Im looking to spend around $800 or less but is this possible for the specs ive listed for a quality machine?

Ive checked out DELL. I may go with one from there, but they are a little more than I can spend atm. After rebate I got one around 1,150...But i think it had a monitor included and i couldnt select no monitor in customizations.../sigh

Your best bet is to use a site that you can cutomize your own sys that way you know exactly what brands are being used for your system. There are asstons of sites you can use maybe someone here has some experiance with them. Only problem with large companys like Dell is ya never know what board they used or what type of HD your getting things of that nature.

If you want to build your own I would recomend Pricewatch and newegg. Both are pretty good sites come to think of it I belive pricewatch will give you OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of the sites you can build custom systems.

If you aint building your own system then http://www.alienware.com > http://www.dell.com but you pay a lot more with alienware. If you are building it on your own you cant go wrong with http://www.googlegear.com

I bought just about everything from Newegg.com -- after I checked Pricewatch... not every item at Newegg was the lowest price available, but I perefer to buy everything from one place if it's just 2-3 dollars more... Newegg offers free shipping on a lot of stuff too

Athlon XP 2100+, 1024 MB PC2700 DDR, Giga-Byte GA7VRXP, and a few minor things like fan and heatsink stuff... I'm happy.

buying a BUILT computer with those specs for under $800 is going to be quite an adventure...good luck! You may have to back off your specs just a lil, specifically, processor speed.

Now, if you are capable of building your own...you can do it easy...

I made my computer for like 500-700 (dont really remember since i bought it all at different times) and it has an athlon xp 2000+, Gigabyte GA7VXP MB, 30gig 7200rpm HD, 512MB of pc2700 RAM, soundblaster live 5.1 soundcard, a Leadtek Geforce 4 ti4600, and enough fans to make it sound like a car engine heh. I could make the same thing for atleast $100 cheaper now... pisses me off that shit goes on sale right after i buy it heh.

If you are computer literate then build your own.

If not then buy Dell. I recommend it to all people I don't want to give future support to. One little trick at Dell is to buy from the Small Business side. They are cheaper than home machines for the exact same specs. Just make a company name up.

just built a 2.4 p4/512 ddr 2100/geforce4/80gb etc for like 600 bucks off newegg for a friend. Also check out pricewatch for their complete systems(they are pretty good friggin prices but do research on the places they suggest. buyer beware), then call the place they have listed and ask them how much to upgrade certain parts. might be a good way to go too if you want the good price without really knowing how to build it(they assemble it).
