Anyone have interesting computer desktop backgrounds?

No holds barred discussion. Someone train you and steal your rare spawn? Let everyone know all about it! (Not for the faint of heart!)

Anyone have interesting computer desktop backgrounds?

Post by Adex_Xeda »

Every now and then at work I'll get tired of staring at the same background and I'll make a new one.

That got me curious, any of you guys make backgrounds for your machines?

I've posted some of mine. Which one do you like best?

BTW got any of your own to share?

I get my desktop backgrounds from deviantart. Follow this link: http://www.deviantart.com/?tier=wallpaper

Then look at the left hand menu under wallpaper. Lots of selections. Some very talented people post there work here.

Hey I'm new to Veeshanvault... but a GREAT site where I get all my desktop wallpapers is http://www.digitalblasphemy.com.

There's a top10 section, as well as a user gallery that you should definetely look into, very nice art!

DeviantArt > Digital Blasphemy

DB costs money for the good areas. DA is pretty much free. Although both places have great work.

Usually vacation pictues and such for me.

I don't generally like themes, they seem to bugger stuff up more often than not.

I cant get any work done with stuff that is too busy in the background. I generally make a complex texture, with perhaps an anchor image/item in the bottom right corner (in a manner like Adela's sample), which is typically representative of the machine name.

That's just the opposite for me Oggie,

I usually have my entire workspace covered with application windows. The only time I see the background is when I log on in the morning.
So, a busy background isn't distracting for me at least.

My favorite wallpapers are works done by HR Gieger. Sorry I don't have the link for his site, but if you like the Alien series of movies, you'd like his stuff since the "Alien" was his artwork.

They start their hooligans young in GB.

OMG Vor, that is a great photo! I wonder if he learned that in Hooligan camp.

Just to clarify, I, too, tend to have my desktop fairly well polluted with applications, but I always have some background showing through, and whenever I have tried a strong background (like Adex's zebra one), I find what does leaks through very distracting.

The other thing is I tend to be lazy about grooming the icons on my desktop, so finding the app I want is challenge enough. I find I need a fairly "clean" background, at least on the left hand side to aid the hunting process.

But this thread has got me thinking .... it's time for meto overhaul my backgrounds as well. :)

hmm so I guess my work is amateuristic.

Well I'll make another crack at it this weekend and see if I can come up with something with more satanic overtones. That seems to be popular on those other sites.

Or maybe I should make a what I consider a nice background and just drop in a anorexic naked chick at 50% opacity. That also seems popular on those other sites. :D
