favorite 1970/80s slapstick comedies!

Post by Skunki »

Ok most people think they are horrible, but i have always been a huge fan of 1980ish comedies. for example i will give a list of my favorties.

#1 Better Off Dead. This movie is my favorite comedy of all time. "I want my two dollars" and "Do you realize the street value of this mountain Lane? This is pure snow!" are just samples of the hilarity! "One Crazy Summer" is right up there too, non official non sequel but pretty much same cast and director.

#2 Revenge of the Nerds - Booger stole the show. "what the fuck is a frush" heh i watched this movie growing up on hbo, just always been a big fan, the sequels are pure crap tho, but a great comedy for the 80s.

#3 Vacation- nuff said, not the christmas, vegas, or european loads of crap, but the original. One of the only Chevy Chase films that he was acutally good in.

#4 The Man with Two Brains. Steve Martin cracks me the fuck up, pretty much like all his performances(even the shitty films he was in). LA Story was great as well.

#5 The Jerk- see #4

#6 Sixteen Candles, put aside all the romance bs and its a funny as hell movie. "automobile?"

#7 Stripes-actually this should be at the top of my list too, A fine comedy, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis have great chemistry, great comedy team, i really wish they had made more films together(this and ghostbusters) and John Candy was just icing on the cake.

#8 Strange Brew eh?

Dont really see many comedies any more with the 80s brand of flavor in em.

anyways i could go on forever and ever. I love those old comedies that are so stupid you gotta love em. Just wanted to see if i was the only one with an awful sense of humor hehe

oh yea Modern Problems. probably the only other movie Chevy Chase was good in.

Harlem Nights.

Classic Eddie Murphy. Ranks right up there with Coming to America in the laugh meter. It's also one of Richard Pryor's last movies before MS fucked him up.

Two years early (1968), but The Party is the best slapstick movie of all time.

If forced to stay in the time frame, I'd have to go with The Pink Panther Strikes Again.

Peter Sellers is simply genious.

P.C.U. - Without a doubt one of the greatest movies of all time.

P.C.U. Features actors such as Jeremy Piven, David Spade, and John Favreau. There is also a cameo appearance by George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic. :)

Great, great, funny movie.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

Bruce Leroy was the main character in Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon (remastered on DVD...great transfer!!) I love this movie! Runs like a long Motown music video with great kungfu action and mucho nods to Bruce Lee.

hehe they dont make campy movies like that anymore. Bruce Leroy pwns! and Yea PCU was a decent attempt but just didnt quite capture the essence of the movies that actually came out in the time frame.

I am trying to decide if Porkys is worth mentioning. It was ok, a little too crude but had some funny scenes. It got a lot of talk during gradeschool recess becuase it was a Taboo movie that us kids used to try and peak a sneak to watch this flick. Noteable scenes of course is the one where the dude sticks his schlong in the drain pipe and the Teacher chick grabs it. Also Porkys 2 sucked ass except for one funny ass scene. The "boogie wooogie" dude still makes me laugh my ass off when just thinking about that scene hehe dunno.

ahh another one that peeps prolly never ever heard of "Fraternity Vacation" with Tim Robbins. oh and "First Bitten" i think was the name. One of Jim Carrey's very first films before he got really famous from in living color and ace ventura.

Another movie with Jim Carrey from the 80s that was pretty funny was Earth Girls Are Easy.

And you cannot mention great comedies of the 70s/80s without mentioning any of the Monty Python movies.

Who's the baddest mofo low down in this whole town...SHO NUF...yeaaahhh

quote from the last dragon

what about all the ninja movies that came out in the 80's all the horrible wanna be kung fu theater movies. They didn't even have the animal sounds when they used animal kung fu :P. Some of the funniest movies have to be the John Cusak's ..One Crazy Summer and Better Off Dead. Ace Ventura is up there just cause you have to watch it a few times to catch all the missed jokes he does.

Space Balls

Airplane...all of'em (Leslie Neilson rocks...even though I probably spelled his name wrong)

Naked Gun

UHF

They're all among my favorites...I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of them at the moment.
