Linkin Park - Meteora: March 25th

Post by Quarkk »

What do you guys think? I liked their first CD (Hybrid Theory) a lot... in fact I liked every song on it, which is very rare for me. I couldn't stand Reanimation though.

I wonder if this will be any good, anyone have any news on what sort of format they're going with this time around? 8-)

LP is in a difficult position that many new artists find themselves in. Thier first album was so good that they will be hard pressed to top it. Also, since it has been a couple of years since thier last release, they run the risk of changing thier basic style too much on this release and alienating thier core audiance. Bands like Pearl Jam or Korn release an album almost every single year, and although thier 4th+ albums differ OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS from thier freshman debuts, the audiance has also been along for the evolution.

I really liked LP, despite the fact that they became a huge success. It's odd that people dislike a band simply because they become popular. Anyway, I am looking forward to this release, but I am a bit nervous for the band. Then again, I felt the same thing in reguards to System of a Down when they released thier sophomore album, Toxicity, and that was simply awsome.

Could go either way though. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best!

I like Mike Shinoda a great deal, I think he is very talented. But I really agree with Fairweather a lot on this. He pretty much summed it up completely. I will still buy it.

I've been listening to it for a few days now. I like it. There are a few songs that seem slightly different than what you'd expect but for the most part it seems like Hybrid Theory Part II. Which isn't a bad thing. I'll be purchasing it when it comes out.

I had started listening to them when their album since it had first came out in stores (back when it was about 7 bucks). I liked every song on that album. I like all of them up until they made the video/single for In the End. Once they made that a single, they started going downhill. Frankly I couldn't stand the second one. Not too many bands make a remix of their first album. I think this CD has potential. If it sounds more like their first album I'll buy it. If its like Reanimation, I wont go near it.

I've only listened to the first 5 songs so far. Basically, if you enjoyed Hybrid Theory, I think you'll really like Meteora. They don't really diverge from the formula that made them so big. Some decent riffs, slower/"easy to sing along to" rap, with a chorus to yell along with. Linkin Park is a really enjoyable band IMO.

OK, so I listened to about 5 songs trying to find something to like about these guys....

The lead singer's vocal range is non existant. He's got an interesting sounding voice with some appeal but he displays less than a single octive range in most songs.

The 'rapper'. No style whatsoever. Monotone talk/rapping makes me cringe. He could at least try to imitate someone elses style.

Songwriting is acceptable. It's no better or worse than any of the 'formula' pop songs polluting the airwaves.

Lyrics are typical teenage emo/angst shout-along-with-me garbage.

Musicianship is hard to evaluate when their music is so overproduced.

I see some Jesus Jones, Pop Will Eat Itself and (early) Nine Inch Nails influence in their music but that style is nothing new and was really done to death in the late 80s early 90s.

I remember seeing these guys on Farmclub over 3 years ago doing One Step Closer and thinking they were pretty decent. They did a pretty energetic performance and it sounded pretty tight... then I heard a few songs off Hybrid Theory and was really disappointed.

I still fail to see any real appeal to this band.

Miir, your exact complaint, in one way or another, can be said about virtually any band in the past 15 years. I'm not saying your opinion isn't valid. I'm just saying that people either like a song/band or they don't.

I keep typing up posts ripping this band to shreds but I keep changinf my mind and deleting them.....

I'll just say one thing..

If you like Linkin Park and are over 12 years of age, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Post any band you like and I could do the same. Like I hinted at above, the point is moot.

I've been pretty big on Remy Zero and The Music lately.
Feel free to bash The Music all you want, I've probably said worse about them. As for Remy Zero, I challenge you to come up with a valid criticism of them.

I think the worse can be said of them is their lack of true musical identity.

You can even try Sneaker Pimps.

Even the shittiest bands I like have more redeeming qualities than shit like Linkin Park. They are as contrived as the Backstreet Boys and Brittney. They were groomed and marketed by the record company to appeal to the lowest common denominator and sell as many records as possible. They are unoriginal and have zero artistic integrity. Mike Shinoda has talent? Gime me a fucking break... he doesn't write or produce.. he can't sing or even play a god damn instrument (playing a chord on a guitar or pressing a few buttons on a sampler doesn't count).... he is an 'easy-on-the-eyes' talking head for a talentless band who happen put on an energetic live show and sell millions of records.

And I'm just getting warmed up. :)

That's one of the most ignorant things I've read lately.

No wonder the anti-war people can't field a decent argument.

I'm not ignorant of their music, lyrics or their audience.

I've listened to virtually all Linkin Parks music and have come to the conclusion that thiey caters to young teens.

Younger listeners generally like music thats easy to digest with simplistic lyrics and that's sonically exaggerated (ie: booming bass, distorted guitars or screaming vocals). It's easier to listen to. They can just concentrate on a single aspect of the music and enjoy it.
