Holy Fucking Google!!!

Post by Mort »

Scary Shit Indeed.....

Go to http://www.google.com then type in your phone
number (separated by hyphens, including area code) and click on
Google Search. If your phone number is listed it will show your name
and address and give you two map options: Yahoo and MapQuest.
See how accurate the map is to your home!!

Any person wishing to discover the physical location of a phone
number, be it a home or business address, could use this feature to
locate a physical street address, and receive directions on how
to get there from anywhere in the country.  In the age of the
internet communication we all know the dangers of this--for adults and our
children!

Google has made available an option that will allow anyone to REMOVE
their telephone number from the database that is linked to the mapping
feature.

You will first need to check if your number is listed in this
manner by attempting a search - entering your full telephone number
separated by dashes (e. g., 212-555-1234). If the number appears in
the mapping database, an icon resembling a telephone will appear next to
the first or second entry on the results page. Clicking on this icon will
take you to a page containing a description of the service, and a
link to request your number be removed from the database.

Well, it lists the person that had my phone number before me, and it's actually only 2 blocks from where I live. Does not give a map to my house however.

I did a search on Yahoo people the other night when someone stopped by my parents house looking for me that I didn't know. I didn't realize for $60 bucks someone could find out where I live, who I'm married to, my daughter's name, criminal record, and where I've lived. I was freaking out. The internet is great but scary at times...

My number is unlisted and it didn't appear....it's also only 4 months old, since I moved recently.

So I plugged in another 5 numbers, 4 of them came up with accurate maps....

Sort of what I thought, Rhyae.

I can count on one hand the number of people outside of buisness contacts or family who have my phone number.

Besides, if you really want to find me, I hope you are driving a humvee. I don't exactly live along the interstate.

my number's up there, guess I just need to be careful who I give my number then, or use cell number more often

it is kinda spooky that someone you just casually give your number (bar, friend of a friend etc.) can just show up at your door one day. This is nothing new though, when you call directory assistance and have a number they will tell you address
