Need Software info

Post by Lor »

Ok heres my Question...

I bought the Office XP standard for students and teachers, I put it on my daughters PC without a hitch, Now, months later I try to install it on my pc and it says "office XP has been activated on another PC, please call microsoft blah blah blah...." so I call and the guy tells me the program can only be installed on one PC. now to my question, If this program is on two machines, can that be tracked somehow? like say... her drive were to crash, I call MS and tell them that and they re-activate the software on my machine and All of a sudden her Drive... PRAISE THE LORD... starts to work again... you see where I'm going with this?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, they have a database at M$ that keeps track of what machine each XP installation is put on. There are ways around it, if you're interested in running it on more than one machine.

If you want to change the machine it's on, you have to call them and get authorization or some shit.. it's really stupid and meant to be anti-piracy, but it hasn't really helped since there was a CD image on the internet for a non-checking version before XP was even officially released. =)
