Rak'Ashiir /Rant

Post by Soriathus Serpentine »

/rant on
Fuck, crap, goddamn, piece of shit, bastard, fucking hell, biotches, mother bitch asses, final epic encounter changing ass raping craptastic corn blowers!
/rant off

Well apparently they changed the Lord Rak'Ashiir encoutner for the Spear of Fate. He went with the now obsolete fire pet approach, and he mowed through us, chain healing and chain casting fire pets, the f'ing bastard. I know shaman who did their Spear of Fate just a couple of months ago and didn't have any problems with the fire pets approach. I love it when Sony notifies the public about making a major change to a mob like oh your final epic mob.

So my question is, who has done Lord Rak'Ashiir recently? Anyone? How many people did you have, how many levels, what tactics did you use? What kind of resistances did people have?

Fire pets have always been a cop out for that encounter.
I remember doing that encounter several times (SOV era) without ever relying on a cheese tactic.

A good tank and competent healers is basically all you need.

healing spells are so different now than what they were the last time i did this encounter, but my first approach now would be to use group heals.

so from that standpoint a paladin would be great to have to help with the cleric.

this group should be able to own this:
paladin
cleric
bard
shaman
any other 2 classes that can do some damage.

I didn't exactly want to use a "cheese" tactic either. That is just the way I was told over and over and over, that was the way to do it. I was prepated to do with with a high level tank and clerics, but instead went with the "traditional" approach and all it bought me was a trip back to fear. :-(

We also had 2 rogues, an SK, a 65 Shaman, a 63 Druid... yet still he pawned us. ARG!!! Will make sure to have good tank, good bard, and good cleric next time. Maybe an SK and/or Pally for good measure and more healing don't want to do it 3 times >:-(

What? I was just asking people's infoz on the encounter, at least getting some good feedback. Gonna check the crucible too for more infoz.

Just get a group together and fight the fucker again. Its rare to have an encounter where you have to figure out how to fight a mob. Thats the problem with EQ, same ole shit, all of the tactics are put up on boards.

Actually they didn't change the encounter.. they changed how pet resists work..

Mage pets had/have various immunities.. However pets now use 2 sets of resists is the best way to explain it..

The pet will use its OWN resists if the pet owners resist is < 100

The pet will use the resist of its owner if the owners resist >=100

So in the case of Rak, if you go with the fire pet strategy then make sure the mages present have their FR <100 for the pet to use its natural immunity to the AE.

The Fire pet tactic still works just fine, they just are not totally immune to the AE because of the change to the resistance system. What you really need are 1-2 of the high level goos from the building in the middle of the zone, as those mobs are in fact immune to the AE. Just charm a couple goos (you can use dire but I think we even used bards last time we did this) and buff them up and go to town. But like Miir said, especially with velious era gear, a handful of mele with descent healers could wax this guy before the AE became an issue.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .

Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

well even with current equip he can still get off an ae or two, two is unlikely but possible. Just did him a few days ago without to much preperation. Had like one death i think.
