It's pretty amazing when you look at the revolutionary war and see the actualy historical fact over what they teach you in school. Until I read about it in some books on the war I always pictured the revolutionary war as a bunch of rag tag american freedom fighters bravely defending their new sovreignity against the british. In actual fact, France fielded just as many troops as the 13 colonies did with over 40 regiments of infantry and 4 cavalry commited to defending the colonies alone. Considering that at the time France only had 109 regiments that is a huge commitment.Keverian FireCry wrote:With this kind of logic we should also go back to being under Britsh rule, because without the French who helped us in the Revolutionary War, we may not even have this country atm.
In fact many cities and towns in the new united states were named after french cities in gratitude. Then there is that whole statue out in NY harbor that the french donated to the US as a token of their friendship.
Now all they get is dissed and Americans can't fucking stop reminding the french how they got dragged across europe and had to go and "save their asses" from Hitler. Some people forget so fast their allies.
Different France, different America. Hell, 9 years after the end of the American Revolution we lost diplomatic relations with the government of France. Once they got their socialistic revolution over and done with we were able to continue an amiable relationship with them. Starting with the "purchase" of land roughly doubling the size of America, which went to the financing of their new government. However, long gone was the government that would put 1/3 of it's standing Army to field for America.kyoukan type-R wrote:It's pretty amazing when you look at the revolutionary war and see the actualy historical fact over what they teach you in school. /sarcasm on: I personally think that France holds 2 things against America.. 1. We liberated them from zee Gehmans. 2. Most French wines are actually from California grapes, sent to France to replenish their stock after their vineyards were ruined in a drought.
