McDonald's is behind the times. Dairy Queen started that over a year ago.

who would set their laptop down on one of those tables?

newsflash for McD's CEO's:

4 year olds dont have wireless NICs

McDonalds does not have comfortable chairs.

McDonalds does not smell good.

WiFi works for coffee shops, not shithole fast food joints.

I know wireless technology I know I test it here at Intel and I'd like to know how they are limiting people to 1 hour of browsing per combo meal or $3 you purchase. On top of that how they will tie that into the purchase itself. Sounds fucked up to me. Honor system maybe?!?!? If it's an 802.11b wireless network it's a simple matter of detecting the network and BAM you're on. Maybe it creates a username and password for a proxy connection that only lasts an hour and is printed on the receipt that's the only thing. And what about hackers on the "Mc Donalds Network" that's a big bunch of potential lawsuits.

That is just one, of many, uses.

MAC spoofing is trivial, and certianly nobody working at McD's is going to do shit about it.

at first i thought this was a stupid idea, but i spoke with a friend of mine about it, and he brought up the point that it is an Intel initiative to basically market their wireless hardware.

in that respect it makes sense. They will get a lot of exposure.

A lot of exposure is right. Living close to a MCDs could quite easily net you free internet service for a long time to come.

What is the range of the 802.11b stuff? Line of sight? 100ft within walls?

Easier than stealing cable in my opinion, and there isnt coax teathering you to the evidence.

Living close to them might be a life saver in areas where you cannot get broadband. ;P

I set one up at my high school last year, in the main english building. We got it to go throughout the building and slightly outside. It was a typical Intel Airport. I'd say the range was well over 200ft. That's through 13" walls too...

Pringles can and a microwave antenna booster through a wireless PCMCIA card = 500+ feet.

Coined "Wardialing" by my friends an myself. Tons of fun driving around the inland empire breaking into all kinds of networks. And if you feel that someone's on to you, just drive down the block and find another. :D
