Iran violating UN Non proliferation agreement now

Looks like Iran is gonna be a problem along with NKorea and Iraq.

Kinda stunned on Iran's part considering the huge US presence in that region atm.

Unfortunately, it's just not that simple, Cart. Even if no nukes go off on US soil, any large exchange anywhere on the planet would prolly have serious consequences. Those radioactive particles would be blown everywhere.

Seriously, you cannot look at nuclear war as impacting only the area the nukes hit. In any large exchange, it's the whole world that gets fucked.

Yeah it's a shame really. Iran was well on their way to moderating themselves and getting rid of their fundamentalist leaders until Bush decided to call them all evil. Now they have to defend themselves with nuclear weapons because we all know what heppens to countries Bush doesn't like.

FYI, Iran isn't involved in anynon-proliferation pact. So saying they are in violation of it is patently stupid.

i do think the way the White House is handling Iran is pretty ignorant.

Iran and the U.S. have a lot of common interests, and if we could do more to build on those, we would give the people there the momentum they need to really enact massive reforms. The government is increasingly secularized there and Western cultural exports (music, movies, etc) are increasingly mainstreamed.

sure the government isn't perfect, but since when has that been even on the list of criteria for the U.S. to do business with somebody.

this is a country that is ripe for building a bridge into that region, and we are totally blowing the opportunity.

Iran told the treaty to fuck off after Israel decided not to sign it and go ahead and get nukes themselves. The NPT is the treaty the US actually broke in providing nuclear weapons to Israel that started everything back in the 70s.

So you won't see me shaking my fist at Iran any time soon. I frankly don't blame any country the bush administration doesn't like for stockpiling weapons as frantically as they can.

I agree with Voronwe.

I truly got the feeling when the whole War on Terrorism started that Iran was close to actually helping or at least not hendering the process then Bush included them in the Axis of Evil retoric... knowing what we know about Iraq we should be working to keep as many allies as possible in the region. Their leader did denounce the attacks, to me that was at least a start...

Iran is still in the NPT. They have threatened to abandon it several times due to US interference (ie. trying to block light-water reactors that are not a proliferation risk).

The Bush administration is going to blow the NPT <A HREF="http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/2830933.stm">wide open</A> anyway. Calling Iran out now is pure hypocrosy.
