I don't think he's an embarassment either. I do think it is embarassing that some people are willing to continually give in to an absolute madman like Husein. His time is up and I support completely the decision to do what needs to be done even if some countries (and people in all countries) choose to be obsolete.

Ok so I have mostly read his speeches and not watched them live so don't have much to compare it to.. but is he usually better than this? Maybe I am too used to people who are very polished speakers but honestly.. Bush sucks at speaking to a crowd. It makes it even worse that he gets the questions in advance (if I am not mistaken that is typical practice at press conferances like this.. ).

But enough about that. He really didn't say anything new or enlightening.

I actually think Bush did pretty good tonight. Or rather, his speechwriters did. No, no, he did. He barely stumbled at all, and I didn't hear any made up words, but then again I turned it off about 7 questions in. Still, he came off as less of a stuttering bumpkin than he usually does.

Nothing he said was new or shocking. Honestly I was expecting him to come out telling us that he'd just given the order to begin the invasion of Iraq. The war is inevitable and unavoidable. Saddam will neither fully and unconditionally disarm, nor will he voluntarily go into exile. Just as long as nothing interferes with Fan Faire it's all goods

The problem with Bush's speech last night was the fact that he never answered (or completely avoided/ignored) some damn good questions from the press. They certianly didn't seem to be pulling any punches.

He made references to Saddam using WMD agist his neighboring countries and his own people. He used the words "weapons of mass destruction" more times in 5 minutes than I thought humanly possible.

He deftly dodged questions about world opinion and how much trouble this war has stirred up in our own country as well as the rest of the world.

He spewed rhetoric. He said the same things that his administration has been saying for months but provided nothing, absolutley nothing, to back up his claims. WMD, Terrorist, Evil, blah, blah, blah.

And while his speaking was improved as far as making up new words and OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS less stumbling, he seemed to have given the whole speech with barely contained laughter. It's as though he isn't taking any of this seriously at all.I'm just glad he didn't go off on some bible thumping verbel rampage.

Just read some world opinions on the speech last night and you'll see I'm not just calling him out because I dislike him. I'm calling him out because he is a failure as a president. The fact that he happens to be my president is beside the point. Just for the record, Dubya has failed at almost everything his entire life. He has coasted through life on Dad's money and reputation and has had everything handed to him on a silver platter, including the election. Just because he is our president does not entitle him to auto-respect status. His fiasco of an administration has run this country so far into the ground in such a short amount of time I am amazed people continue to look the other way.

I have seen nothing good come from his Presidency. Quite the opposite in fact...

Miir-hes from Texas, thats his accent. I watched the second half of it, thanks to Miir, and it was one of his better speeches. I do think he is sincere, regardless of what others believe. Would be a very hard job for anybody to be Pres of the US at this time...Democrats aren't helping much either.

They way he kept saying 'I believe that Iraq is a threat' didn't sound particularly convincing. I couldn't help but think that he has been instructed to believe that Saddam and Iraq is a threat.

I was also confused as to why he repeatedly implied ties to 9-11 and Saddam/Iraq.

i dont believe Iraq poses an immenent threat to the U.S.

but that doesnt mean that miltary action shouldnt be undertaken. I do think that the only reason Iraq has even partially complied (in the last week or 2) with the unanimous UN resolution (passed in November) is because of the 200,000+ troops parked on his doorstep.

Only somebody who is totally naive would think otherwise. All of a sudden Iraq might be able to find traces of their Anthrax and VX stockpile records. "i guess we just forgot to put them in the report in December, i mean its just thousands of liters of Anthrax and VX..."

anyway, the point is that he is not going to disarm unless he is disarmed.

Now i will accept that a question up for debate is whether or not we care that he is disarmed as long as he is contained.

I think the White House has made their decision on the side that, although there is no clear cut evidence for Iraqi involvement in active anti-American terrorist groups, we arent going to wait for him to make a relationship with one.

All Iraq is trying to do right now is stall into April. They know if they do that, we will be compromised in the manner in which we can use groundtroops and will lose some tactical options simply because we will only be able to operate at night.

I dont think the White House has handled the diplomacy very well in this entire process and that should not surprise anybody. Nobody thought going into this administration that foreign policy would be its forte. What will remain to be seen is how long will the opposition to U.S. policy in Iraq persist after the regime change has occured.
PS: North Korea conducting an at-sea weapons test this weekend. yay

i will have to agree that Saddam has played his hand pretty well this year so far. He has limited options, but you really have to say that just about everything has gone his way inspite of that. Some through his action, and certainly some through good fortune.

some of that fortune being the billions of dollars that Russia and France hopes to recover in lost investment in Iraq before the regime (and their debts) are wiped.
