Daredevil Warning!
This movie sucks. I had the chance to see it Monday night and I was very disappointed. Cheesy acting (though Bulls-eye was cool), storyline was retarded and the action sequences were so crammed with needless cgi effects, you could hardly tell what was going on. A great soundtrack however, wasted on a movie such as this.

In all fairness, there's no way to put the kind of depth into a character in a 2 hour movie that you can get out of a comic series 1000+ issues long (batman/superman/spiderman/xmen - including all of the alternate titles) However, the spiderman movie was probably the best, or second only to xmen in how it handled the character, cast the film, worked between cgi/live stunts and most importantly, remained true to the characters throughout the script. Xmen faltered on the last part, which is why I rate it lower, but there really is no knocking spiderman... I mean, it had Bruce Campbell!
Batman, Superman I and II, and Spiderman were all very successful and very good adaptations from comic books. But I guess their success as films really depends on how you look at them. If you're viewing them critically because they don't stick to their source material like gospel, then perhaps your criteria are a bit harsh.
It's not necessarily the point of a comic-inspired movie simply to rehash the comic books word for word. What would be the fun in that? Rather, movies adapted from comic books should take their characters and show us stories too big or colorful to be contained on the hand-drawn page. They should be judged not on how faithfully they mimicked the comic books, but on how good they are as films.

I have to agree. Every comic book movie is already pegged down a notch because you usually have to spend a good 10-30 minutes providing the background or tragic occurence as to why they are the way they are. Sometimes it's good like Superman, but most of the time, blech
My wife didn't even know who Daredevil was. To be honest, i never heard of him until I beat the PSX Spiderman game and he was in the closing movie

Im just in to realism.. Like Band of Brothers or Heat. I suppose if I watched Xmen as a comic book fan, I would enjoy it. I do admit Blade was a cool movie, but even with the greatest actors, I still dont like them. I hate unintentional cheesiness. I spent my child hood in a comic book store and I still dont like comic books.
Anyone ever play paintball then look at a movie and say.. thats so much bull shit..?

Due to paintball, I would rate my life expectancy in RL combat to be about 4 minutes or less.
Comic book movies are getting better and better as studios realize there is a great market for them and they're giving them the budgets they need in order to present these fantastic stories. I predict X-Men 2 will do very well in the theaters this summer and be a pretty good flick.
We'll see what other comic inspired movies will creep up in the future. I'll take them one at a time.
I'm off to see Daredevil at the Omnimax tonight. I don't have high expectations, but I think it will be worth the price---free
There's a promo going on right now. Buy X-Men 1.5 on DVD and get a free ticket to Daredevil.

For those who haven't seen the movie yet...
Ben Affleck does not disappoint! His acting continues to SUCK ASS.
Jennifer Garner was hotter than I've ever seen her, and tied for the best actual acting in the movie with John Favreau. Collin Farrell was very good as Bullseye as well.
Overall, I think a VERY bad script ruined this movie.

Ben Affleck just sucks in every movie he has been in so far. He even sucked in Dogma....and Carrot Top could have pulled off his role in that one.
And to the posters who equated paintball to actual combat, let me assure you that skills in paintball mean absolutely nothing in combat and vice versa. We have beaten the piss out of teams from the marines, army, navy, seals, you name it....but they would obliterate us in actual combat. I have seen people from the armed forces who were so bad at paintball that it made me physically ill to watch them....and they weren't even Canadians!

So according to you Killmoll Canadians are bad marksman?
And about Daredevil it wasent that horrible i don't know whats the big deal with Ben Affleck either he didnt seem that bad... People can be over critical. Maybe it's just me who sucks as a critic for acting.
I grew up watching all the comic books become animated tv series like spider man, the hulk, gi-joes (did they make a film for gi-joes? would be cool to see one) x-men, the fantastic four, the avengers so on and so forth.
And now ill be one of those who go see the movie adaptation because they were a part of my childhood.
I'll be paying to go see The Hulk for kicks and giggles!
Wich other super hero movie adaptation is coming up next?

- There are two major sequels coming out this year and next: namely, X-Men 2 (2003) and Spiderman 2 (2004).
- I know Warner Bros. is developing a new Batman prequel, and is also pushing forward its long-delayed Superman project. Rumor has it that Josh Hartnett, Jude Law, and Ashton Kutcher screen tested the best during Superman casting. I hope there's someone better suited to the part out there, because all three of those actors are way too skinny to portray the Man of Steel. Jude Law is the best of those picks, in my opinion, assuming he beefs up a tad.
- There is also movie coming out soon based on the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen -- a comic I've never heard of, but which apparently has a cult following.
Maybe I stand alone in this, and thats ok. Im secure enough in my manhood.
I like Ben Affleck.
I liked him in this, I loved him in Boiler Room (Awesome Movie!)
I even liked him in the movie Bounce
About Daredevil. Mmmmmm. Probably a 3 out of 5. It had cool parts, I like looking at hotties so thats always nice.

This has Sean Connery though so will probably be cool.

Wow, LOEG as a movie ... that could really, really ... suck. It might also be a fun, weird film - all depends on whether whoever directs it "gets" the original material.
If you like Alan Moore's other works (WATCHMEN, Swamp Thing etc), then take a look at LOEG. It's published by America's Best Comics, and it's a sort of deranged James Bond-meets-Charlie's Angels-meets-fin-de-siecle-London-by-Gaslight, with what that era has to offer of fogged moody settings, Sherlock Holmes (well, his brother anyway) along with Professor Moriarty, Auguste Dupin, Fu Manchu and other goodies.
Oh, in case you were wondering, the members of the LOEG are Alan Quartermain (of King Solomon's Mines fame), Captain Nemo, Dr. Henry Jekyll, Mr. Edward Hyde (who for some reason is never seen in the company of Dr. Jekyll, strange...), Hawley Griffin and Mina Murray (formerly Mrs. Harker).
The cast should give you an idea of how weird this thing is...I doubt they can capture the all the intertextual meta-references (oh so British) in the film, but as a "fun" adventure movie it could definately work. The cast chosen seems pretty well suited for their parts.

It could be that the only purpose for your every existence, is to serve as a warning to others.

Just saw Daredevil last night (had to bittorrent it, I live in a fucking undeveloped country having to wait for movies). I'd heard a lot of different opinions on it, some surprisingly good, some predictably condemning.
My take:
It sucked. The main problem was the abysmal acting. The script was pretty good, based on one of the better Miller story arcs, and with better directing and - dare I say it - better actors, it could really have gotten somewhere.
None of the actors lived up to their potential except Ben Affleck who continues to suck. That guy is right up there with Steven Seagal as far as sincerity is concerned ...
The best part about the movie for me was the X-Men2 trailer - and that sucked, too.

Was browsing through the magazine rack at a Wal-Mart while the wife hunted down some of her female "goods" and saw a magazine that gave a huge ass listing of comic book/sci-fi/fantasy based movie and T.V shows that are due out sometime in the near future.
The ones that caught my eye were another Blade movie and then possibly a Blade T.V. series, The Fantastic Four movie is still in the works with Chris Columbus still slated as director ... and HELLBOY
by Mike Mignola .. fucking eh ! Not sure on that due date .. but it'll have Roh Pearlman as Hellboy ... should be good if they stick to the basics.

I just watched this on HBO-HD. The movie wasn't bad IMO.
Ben Affleck in the lead role diminished the movie quite a bit unfortunately. He's just not that good of an actor...he can manage supporting roles ok but not the lead.
Bullseye is one of my favorite villians from comicbooks. He's just plain badass. In the comic, after Daredevil breaks his back and busts up his body, and after he had "killed" elektra...the last few pages of the comic is Bullseye, full of hate, thinking to himself how he's going to kill Daredevil. Frank Miller had a great run writing and drawing Daredevil.

I disagree! For movies it's nice to see a history of comments so dragging up an old thread when a movie is released on DVD or HBO isn't the end of the world.Animalor wrote:Ya know.. After a while it's ok just to create a new thread instead of just bumping up this old stuff.
I just re-read Daredevil 181 which this movie is based on. Some of the lines are taken word for word while some parts are changed dramatically.
DD#181 is one of the best written/drawn comics in existence. I have it in .cbz format which is a little over 15mb. Unfortunately I can only host 10MB or less or I'd link it as it's well worth the time to read it.
