In times where the world feels like the most chaotic place on earth, what with war, famine, poverty, suffering, etc. I simply look at this:

Sorta reminds me of that sceen in Star Trek: First Contact (right?) where the borg sphere goes back in time over Earth, and all the sudden you see the entire planet.. connected by grids upon grid upon grid.. borged..
Pretty cool tho.

That was my first thought
The sky is dark where I live
. That was one of the things I disliked (among many) about CA, the sky was orange at night. The only thing you could see was the moon.
Large parts of the third world shut down power from ~9:00PM-6:00AM. Saves a lot of resources. Making the picture somewhat misleading from a "who has electricity" perspective. Where I worked in Japan they shut down power and water from 10:00PM-6:00AM. Everyone kept a garbage can of water next to the toilet

Top pic:
Look to the west of the great lakes until you see a huge dark spot...
This is my home. This is South Dakota. Those few lights you see are actually aircraft flying over...
Edit: or perhaps some random farmers in thier combines... those people seem to enjoy harvesting their crops in teh dark...

Hah! I see some frenchie people playing on Karana!!!
I got laid less when i used a Pentium. I talk about my AMD and how it has 8 data channels instead of 6 and why AMD's QuantiSpeed Architecture easily out-performs Intel's Hyperthreading technology. Suffice to say that it gets the chicks all hot and flustered...
