Joe Millionaire Wrap-Up
Taken from The Daily Variety Online:
------------------------------
Fox's Joe Millionaire Ends on a High Note:
According to fast affiliate ratings, the conclusion of Joe Millionaire on Monday (at 9 p.m.) gave Fox its highest rated entertainment program ever among adults 18-49 (20.4/40), adults 18-34 (24.8/50) and total viewers (40.0 million). Based on adults 18-49 and 18-34, the Joe Millionaire finale is the highest rated entertainment program on any network since the premiere of CBS's Survivor: The Australian Outback following The Super Bowl on Jan. 28, 2001.
------------------------------
I guess this means we'll be seeing quite a bit more of the show in its future incarnations.

Im still partial to Survivor over Joe " Who didnt see them giving him the money to make him a REAL" Millionaire. Nice Twist Fox.
Especially this Season. Guys on girls is what I always wanted to see. I dont care how PC a guy is, I know he was loving the women only having four trees cut down after the first day. Then to top it off the Princess uses some of their fresh water to boil her Panties in.
FUNNY STUFF!

That's a close call really. Joe was pretty damn good. Another contributing factor was it wasn't drawn out over the course of 9 months. In hindsight, I imagine Fox is a little upset it cut 8 women on the first show. Let's face it, last week's episode and next week's get together are merely attempts to milk the series for all it's worth.
Survivor is going to have to keep coming up with new and more extravagant gimmiks every season in order to keep my interest. The male vs. female was a pretty good start, but they've done similar gimmiks in the past to keep the audiance and cast guessing.
Since Fox really made it impossible to make a sequel to Joe, my friends and I thought it would be cool to have a show where the guy really is worth 50 million bucks, but he treats every woman like shit. The audiance would see which woman would put up with non-stop humiliation and degradation in order for a hot at a millionare, while also seeing the women that respect themselves more than the lure of money. It would be fun to watch a woman sit there and "grin and bare it" only because the guy is rich. Now that's entertainment!

Dude...you have one thousand dollars??
I know a couple girls who want to meet you...
All in all, I loved the show...I only hope they don't try to regurgitate it. It would just be so shitty. If another thing is to be done like this...please change it a little more than merely switching Evan out with a chic instead. I just get a horrible feeling fox will actually try it again.
I personally would prefer Fair's idea with the 50 mill fella

setting up blind dates is something I can watch, setting up blind marriages seems totally whacked
reminds me of 1800's and before
talk about grinning and bearing
on the other hand maybe there are people who will rely on judgement of others and will get married thinking it will all fall into place and love will come eventually, getting some money and publicity doesn't hurt
I just don't see myself ever doing that

There you go over-estimating peoples intelligence again. They could do this 2-3 more times and folks would still watch it. Possibly with steadily decreasing ratings, not sure on that count.Voronwë wrote:problem is you can't do Joe Millionaire 2 with the same premise, as the ladies this time will suspect he isnt really rich.

Actually, Fox has some of the smartest executives in the business. "Joe Millionaire" may be a lowbrow concept, but it's a brilliant idea. The amount of viewers and dollars it pulled in attest to that fact.Kluden wrote:Voro, I understand that you mentally "can't" do it...but FOX is one of those "worked one time, do it 100 times" stations...I am praying they don't even try.
For the record, there won't be a season 2 of "Joe Millionaire" as we know it today. The concept will be rearranged completely (see one of my other threads on this subject). I doubt they'll even run the show next season with the same title.
Fox has plans to run "Joe Millionaire" clones in Australia and South Africa, but no plans to run an identical premise next season in the States.

Aside from being a Slow Runner though, werent you a classmate of both Lenny and Forrest Gump, Sor?
Hehe
Sorry you missed it pal, was other thread anyways. Ajran got it.

While I'm not going to doubt your correctness on Fox's execs, since you say you are an industry person, I will call shananagens on their decision making.
I do totally agree that Joey $ is one of the best ideas for a TV show yet...but you also should not give the execs much credit. Let us please remember that they cut mad honies out of the show the first two weeks. I am inclined to agree with the opinion that the Fox execs are kicking themselves for not making the "cut down" process atleast two more episodes long. Would have given them more shows which of course = more money.
Also to back my point about the bad decisions, one only has to watch the last couple seasons of 90210 and the latest garbage entitled Fastlane. Both of these instances are a case where the execs just refuse to quit on a show that deserves the grave.
But WTF do I know, I'm just a construction guy...

couple more episodes and they would run out of "real jewels" to give away
"Are our jewels real?' was best line of that show
honorable mentions to
"I'd go to a thirld world country and bathe their children"
"Did you get that breasts in Paris? ... that dress in Paris?"
"I didn't come to France to shovel horse doodoo"
and
"slurp slurp mmmm hmm slurp ooh"

The problem is that most shows are signed on contract. Fox commissioned a specific amount of episodes for "Joe Millionaire" -- and the number couldn't be exceeded without ordering a new batch of at least 12. Would you really want the show to have been 12 episodes longer?Kluden wrote:While I'm not going to doubt your correctness on Fox's execs, since you say you are an industry person, I will call shananagens on their decision making.

"90210" went on as long as it did because people were still watching. The show might have been utter garbage, but it had a substantial audience up until its dying day.
"Fastlane" was cancelled, AFAIK. Of course, there's the contract deal. I'm sure Fox committed to at least a season's worth of material. If they don't purchase a new season's worth of eps, the show won't air anymore.
I seriously need to read up on how the tv industry works. I always noticed the numbers of 12/13 or 26 sometimes...but never really understood why they were always the same.
You know of a good book or websource that goes over that type of shit on "how it works"?
Oh...and another example of Fox's "spinoff stupidity": That 80's Show. I refuse to even comment on it.
