Philipine Islands (PI) was disneyland for adults until AIDS became an issue. You could get a full service housekeeper for about $40 a month. Get her checked out at a clinic and you're all set until you deploy again. Thailand was even better IMO.

Not going to get into the right or wrong of it, it wasn't illegal in either place. It was probably a way to make a living, and at wages 10X what they'd get doing anything else. Didn't seem to have the social taboo it does here either.

We usually went to Phuket, cool place. Their version of a 5 star hotel cost about $25 a night. Some weird virus had just killed ~10 Japanese tourists last time I was there.

I suppose I must ask you. If prostitution were legalized here in the US exactly who would it hurt? Just a question you seem to be able to answer. Completley off topic Not flaming just curious. Unlike legalizing drugs I dont see where it would have an impact on the innocent bystander. I have always wondered why our society calls prostitution immoral and unacceptable. Not that if I were capable I would put my AD in the local paper.

Prostitution is legal in parts of Nevada. It is clearly a better life tha street girls, but they still have pimps and are still abused. Hard to know if that is really a fair assessment of what it would be like if it were a purely legal profession. There is a book and a documentary feature done by a physician that went into a NV whorehouse and stayed with the girls for a year. I am spacing on the name atm, but it is a worthwhile thign to check out if you are actually interested in teh subject.

Very few podiatrists get the shit beat out of them if they decide they want to quit or leave town. Completely remove the criminal element of it, and I will give you that prostitution is a choice. I am not saying it should not be legal, I am just saying that merely legalizing it is not enough. Read the book I referenced above (I think you have the name off Cid, but that is the name of the whorehouse in it - I should just do a google search). You will be fairly suprised I think. Even the laws of the town the house is located in support an indentured sevatude once a girl chooses the profession. There is far too little free will involved, even in the places in NV where it is legal to simply rest on the fact that it is a choice.

Edit - the name of the book is Brothel.

Prostituion is a worldwide occupation, with varying degrees of inhumanity involved. There aren't too many places I haven't been, and it's one of the few universal things I've seen.

Availability of medical care coupled with a religious/societal proscription against birth control, and no resources to support a large population are the root of the problem. We've greatly reduced infant/child mortality in many areas of Africa and Asia, unfortunately we don't stay and feed all these "extra" people, and the land can't support them.

To those who cry out about this sort of thing, are you going to support them? What option would you give? People have to feed themselves somehow. The Philipines biggest export is people, that's not a solution.

I was kind've asking, for an educated reason. Why you are so dead set against prostitution.

Can I make the question a little different? Why is supporting the industry so "fucked up" to you?

The way the industry is ATM yeah I can see you arnt actually supporting the prostitute, but the pimp, drug dealer or local justice system that are in the same area.

A lot of those diseased and beaten women came home with military men from the area's they were discussing. Some married for different reasons than others. Some are still married.

That isn't my view, I haven't been in that part of the world since before the term AIDS existed regardless.

Everything in life involves choices and consequences, though sometimes the choice is in between bad and worse. And in some instances you're choosing for your children also. Other than in the areas of the world that slavery still exists, prostitution is initially a choice. Getting out is another matter entirely.

Sorry so late on responding. The Smiley Game, as we liked to call it, was the highlite of our time in the PI.

As said, the girls get under the table while the guys are drinking. The first person to flinch, make a noise, or make a face lost and had to buy the next round of drinks.

What wasn't said it that the girls had their own contest going on under the table, who could fill their cup first. (use your imagination as to what they filled them with)

Try organizing that kind of fun here in the states and you will have to pay a big money. That's another great thing about the PI, you can get almost anything for a bag of apples.

I don't know enough about prostitution to form an opinion, so I'll just farm with some random thoughts instead.

Even if I had the chance, I don't envision myself paying for sex. Besides, it's pretty easy getting laid if that's all your after. Then again, it might be worth it to many so they don't have to cope with a relationship and the burdens they bring.

I'd rather whack it and save the money anyway, but I'm cheap like that.

When you pay for sex, probably 99.9999% of the time, especially in a 3rd world or developing nation, you are financially supporting an institution that owns women, treats them like slaves, abuses them, and then throws them out or kills them if they ever become unappealing to a man (pregnant, older, beaten up beyond the point of a decent recovery).

Well, to be honest, that is the last thing that I thought about when I bought women by the hour/evening/week when I was overseas. Personally I don't care why they do it so long as they don't give me the clap, scrape their teeth on my cock, or cost too much.
