Pluribus (Vince Gillian make of Breaking Back, Saul, X-Files)

Post by Winnow »

Pluribus is on Apple. I steal the shows so it's ok for me to watch while hating Apple but if you are a cultist and have Apple TV, this show is worth checking out. Justified!

It stars the actress that played Kim Wexler on Better Call Saul.

The very basics are that "something" takes over almost every human's mind in the world save for a handful of people.

Carol (Kim Wexler's character) annoys me every episode with her decisions but she plays the role extremely well.

Vince Gillian said this isn't about AI but he mentioned he hates AI so it will be interesting to see where this show leads. I have thoughts on it but will see if anyone else here watches it before discussing them since it would spoil some things.

the 4th episode came out today. It's not for people that want explosions and car races. This is more for those that would rather ponder things like "what would I do if I was in this situation".

It's a slow burner. Apparently Vince Gillian has 4 seasons of material in his head if the show is successful, Apple has already bought the second season so it will go at least that long.

If you have watched some of the best TV ever made (Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul) you will know what to expect with the camera work and the mysterious show openings each episode that make sense later.

I recommend the show so far. I would have been asking different questions and approaching things differently than the main character is but that's what's great about this show. Use your mind and think.

Well actually... Vince Gilligan (not Vince Gillian) didn't 'make' X-Files. That was Chris Carter. VG was an executive producer.

However, that reminds me, I never did finish the last 2-3 seasons of Better Call Saul. I'll get around to it someday.

I’m an episode or two behind, but I think this show is a critique of AI.

Vince Gilligan openly said he hates AI but also said the show isn't about AI. I would think it would lean toward the anti-AI side of things though on how the story progresses.

I'm rooting for the HIVE so far. My guess is we'll find out the individual consciousnesses of the converted HIVE people are trapped in some kind of horror black void or able to observe but not control their bodies. For many, the immediate assumption is that a HIVE consciousness is bad. If you look at every NDE or DMT experience, they report a "know everything/mass consciousness experience". Almost all of them are happier and more content after the experience. I doubt this show will take that approach though based on Vince Gilligan's mindset abut AI.

The truth is we don't know if a mass consciousness is good or not. We've never experienced it. We do know that humans have been horrible for pretty much their (our) entire existence up to the present day so as an outside intelligence observing humans and their actions over at least the past 4,000 years, I wouldn't see much redeeming value in the human race/species.
