MX1000? WTF?
MX1000? WTF?
I could have sworn there was this HUGE thread concerning these mice... I just picked one up from a friend cheap (he got a ton of them to sell) and was looking for Winnows feedback but I can't find the thread? Did someone delete it?

There was a huge thread. Maybe it got lost when the board shat the bed earlier this year?
It's a great mouse. I liked it a lot. In some ways, I liked it more than I like the G7 I'm using now. Not having to swap batteries once a day is a really nice. The MX1000 is great though.

Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
Well I got 2 of them for $40 from a friend (NIB). Just got finished charging the one for work and getting the drivers loaded. WOAH I love it so far. Side scrolling and the thumb buttons let me fly through spreadsheets here at work, can't wait to try the other out at home.
I've never used a wireless mouse before but I thought everyone had raved about these so I though WTF... hopefully I got a good deal.

You got a good deal.. The MX-1000 is the best mouse on the market.
I am sticking with the G7 due to the larger mouse feet as I'm extremely anal about accuracy with my mouse and have it set on ludicrous speed.
I'm counting on the next generation of MX-1000 to have improved feet, the new small USB wireless interface, G7 type recharge base, and possibly longer lasting swappable batteries and I'll switch back.

MX 1000 is my favorite for the shape and buttons of the mouse. The feet are too small though Winnow is right. I found I had to constantly clean the dust off the feet, or it didn't "glide" to my satisfaction... but I'm anal about that I guess. They wear down kinda fast too.
I switched to a G7, but I hate the recharger setup on that mouse. The battery switching annoys me, as does the fact that my kids like to push the button on the base and watch the battery pop out, and then take the battery and lose it. Why couldn't logitech just keep the MX 1000 power setup, and why does the G7 battery not last near as long as the MX 1000 did? Seems like a step backwards to me. So anyway, I settled on a G5. The wired part dosen't bother me so much, and I like the textured plastic of the mouse much better than the slick feel of the G7 or the MX 1000.
All of that to say they are all great mice... the above is mostly just nitpick stuff. Thats a great price on an MX 1000.

My MX1000 stopped working after roughly 4 months, and I - idiot as I was - had forgotten to save the receipt. Now it's standing in its cradle looking sad and forlorn, like a Betamax VCR collecting dust in the attic.

I got the last one Marb had available Saturday.
I let it set on the charger until all bars were green and it is still going strong today.
Probably had this computer in EQ2 at LEAST 20 hours this weekend between my daugher and myself. Still has 2 green bars.
I love the feel of this mouse and how easily it glides. I have always preferred a trackball over a mouse but I'm glad I made this switch.

I have a problem with one of mine not charging as well.
It's something to do with the contacts in the base. If I wiggle is around enough it will eventually make contact and charge.
Generally speaking I agree, the MX1000 is the best general use mouse ever! The wired gaming mice that logitech made are better suited for FPS gaming (or anywhere extreme accurace is required).
I picked up a couple of the new MX Revolutions the other day at Comp USA, and passed them around work as 'Rewards and Recognition' gifts.
This is the new Logitech Winnow made a thread about. The Revolution has some wicked cool features, such as the freewheel/ratchet clutch on the wheel, and the window flip, and build in search button. Revolution is lighter, has larger feet, and fits better in smaller hands (narrower at the base).
Personally I prefer the MX-1000 to the Revolution.

I played around with a display Revolution at Fry's and I think it may be too small for my hand. I'm obsessed with the smooth gliding huge feet of the G7 and actually took note of the way I move the mouse around. I have it on super speed mode and sit my palm on the mouse pad awhile just using my fingertips to move the mouse around so I guess it doesn't matter how the mouse fits in my hand since I only use my fingertips. With this method, the G7 works best for me.Midgen wrote:

G7, MX-1000 and Revolution are all good choices depending on your preferences.
I'd like to purchse another one of these for when the one I currenty have croaks. I've gotten used to the feel and I like how long it holds the charge. However the only ones I've seen online are all going for $80+. Anyone seen them cheaper? Do they even still make new ones? Was sorta hoping I could find a closeout deal somewhere

Haven't seen them cheaper lately although I think I've seen sales in the past.
The Revolution is going for 79.00 now so I think that particular mouse didn't go over so well.
I'm waiting for a new G15. My G7 mouse has been amazingly resilient. I really do give my mice a serious workout with the amount of time I spend on the PC. The battery swap time shortening is the only issue.
I'd be using an MX1000 if I didn't like the G7 and it's huge feet and dpi though.

I search the newswire for anything coming out of Logitech and haven't heard a peep about a new G15 or mice.
I'm thinking that they've put any new keyboard announcements on hold until they can get out passable Vista drivers for their current keyboards.
It looks like they're compleely skipping a year so most likely we'll have to wait until the Sep/Oct timeframe when most products are announced before the holiday season.
This doesn't bode well for sales until closer to August for clearing them out.

Re: MX1000? WTF?
While bored one day I decided to fix up my old MX1000. Unfortunately I had taken it apart at some point in the past and when I put it in the box of junk I neglected to include the screws so I can't reattach the bottom. Also the rubber on the mouse wheel is a bit warped so it doesn't roll as well as it should. I looked online for replacement wheels and can't find any that reference the MX1000. I don't know if that particular scroll wheel was used in any other mouse. I did get good at reattaching those springs though but I did have to consult a YouTube video. Also when sitting in the cradle it didn't seem to even attempt to charge. I don't know if that's due to an issue with the charging base or it it doesn't even try to charge if the internal battery is dead. You can find replacement batteries online for not too much but I don't think I'll bother with that unless I find the screws to attach the bottom of the mouse. I could probably find replacement screws somewhere but I don't know what size they are so I may just move on from that project.
Then I came across my abandoned Performance MX mouse that I replaced with a G502 Hero because it was having issues and took that apart. There was one part of the plastic wheel mechanism that was broken. You can find the whole assembly online for about $15 but I superglued it together instead and it's nearly as good as new. I then recharged the enerloop battery that was in it, which was over 10 years old since, according to Amazon I bought this mouse in April 2013, and at least 6 years since it was last recharged, and it took almost a complete charge. It's a 1900 mAh battery but only got back up to 1800. Regardless it's all back together and seems to work fine. I do have to buy new feet but I found those on eBay at $11 for a set of 2. I doubt I will use this over the G502 (which personally I find a bit small) but again it's a good backup mouse or something to use with a secondary PC.
I also fixed up a cheapo Logitech mouse. Nothing to really note about it as it is as basic of a mouse as you can get, but hey yet another backup mouse. I think it was just the wheel got gunked up and the spring wasn't attached or was wedged in and the wheel wouldn't turn. I don't quite recall now!
One thing I learned is that these mice are very well designed internally. The MX1000 in particular impressed me with how easy it was to disassemble all the individual parts of it. With the Performance MX I didn't really feel that was the case as much but it wasn't bad. I felt the holder for the AA battery made things more complicated that it needed to be. I definitely prefer internal batteries over AA/AAA batteries as long as you can find replacements for them. I doubt most are that complicated for the average person to replace unless just picking up a screwdriver causes you to ram it through your hand. The main downside is it usually involves having to destroy the feet since the screws are usually under those and you can't always reattach them.

Logitech mice (except for that double-click issue they had for awhile) are good. I've been using a G900 for a long time now. The feet still are ok, I have to clean them every so often but after an shitload of use, they haven't worn down and an insane number of right mouse clicks and it still works fine.
Logitech's main probablem was always the drivers. They seem "ok" these days. I have to refresh my onboard memory every so often because an app will somehow slow my mouse but otherwise, maybe it's the 128GB of RAM I have, I don't have to worry about crappy software as much even if it leaks etc.
Logitech never did replace the G15 Gamepad. I had to buy a used one on Amazon for close to $200 for my girlfriend years ago because nothing compares to it for MMORPGs. I still have my original one. Amazingly the little thumb joystick still works after so many hours of use in EQ and all the other games that followed. I mean just Overwatch alone should have broken it with how tense those battles were. I don't use it that much anymore due to not really playing much FPS/MMOs.
