As a random thread from the past, it shows how this forum used to be. Pretty much everyone contributing to a discussion without endless flames except for the guild/EQ drama threads that were intended for that purpose. Some, I'm sure, think it was me that started non EQ flame wars on VV. It really wasn't. You can go back through years of posts, especially the first ten years and see I was always calm and offered my opinions. What started the downfall of open discussions, without them turning into mindless flamewars, was people getting frustrated and resorting to flames. That's one benefit of having 15 years of history here (minus 10% of the threads that were lost during a database conversion).

Anyway, there's some insightful stuff buried deep in these forums. You could probably delete 90% of the posts over the past 5 years on VV while keeping 90% of the posts before that as being historically entertaining when we're in our 70's and 80's looking back at the EQ years.

I started this thread a year ago!

I miss the flame wars. No way shit like that would fly today. No way I would say those things today.

Everquest taught me so much about life that you can't put on a resume, merely because it happened in a game.

But I'm happy to have had those experiences. They are helping me build my business now.

I'm going to blog about it soon.
