Technically this isn't "Joe Millionaire 2," but it's a spin-off Fox is developing.

Anyway, the concept is a take off on "Shallow Hal." A handful of gorgeous, shallow women will be hypnotized, then introduced to a charming bachelor. The bachelor is everything a woman could hope for -- witty, confident, smooth, and good hearted. Unfortunately, he's also butt ugly. But the women won't know that; they'll have been hynotized to believe he's really hot. At the end of the season, they'll be released from hypnotic suggestion, and shown his real image. Will they stick with him?

The question with "Joe Millionaire" was whether women will go for money above all else. This new series (yet untitled) will hypothesize whether women put looks above personality. Similar concept, equally hilarious results.

Is that for real, Millie? I'm not too sure how I feel about that one, as I don't really put a whole lot of faith in Hypnotism. I don't know that they'll really be able to make these chicks think an ugly dude is attractive. Unless they work the fake $50M angle again.

I'm sure I'll watch it anyway, as Fox reality shows seem to be so entertaining.

I'm 100% sure that the show is in development. It may not be ready for next season, but it'll hit televisions eventually.

I've been assured that the professional hypnotism used on the show actually works. It all depends on how weak-minded the person being hypnotized may be. And if they find a bunch of hot, dumb blonde types, they'll have an easy time hypnotizing them.

That is awesome! I will be glued to the set if that shit comes out. Do the girls KNOW they are being hypnotized? If not, I would think that could set the show up for lawsuits. Fucking with someone's mind like that without their consent sounds shady.

While I think the show will be EXTREMELY humorous, I wouldn't necessarily call the women shallow by being turned off to a man based on looks. Hell, you guys drool here daily over a small-framed woman with a small waist and big tits.

Yeah, I don't think I'd be too far off in saying either that a woman would be more likely to stay with a man merely based on his personality traits even if he were butt ugly. With a man...in most cases, he'd take off runnin.

But she was mixed between him dating skinnier gals. Although, he was dating her for like 10 episodes or so.

I have a friend who bears a striking resemblance to Drew Carey (in every aspect).....He's had a number of very attractive girlfriends in the 5 years I have known him.

Those other shows you listed are complete and utter rubbish.
I suppose I could look back through a bunch of shitty, single season sitcoms and find quite a few where the husband was considerably more attractive than the wife.

I challenge you to that miir. I don't think you'll find much, if any. Female starlets are held to higher appearance standards than males. Men usually get into sitcoms because they started out as comedians, a business that has little to do with good looks. These sitcoms cater to average Joes who are usually overweight (as most of the country seems to be). Sticking a pretty thin girl (who obviously works out) on his arm makes these Joes feel likt they too could get a girl like that. Its all marketing sap, nothing new.

Its the same reason why men's magazines always have a bikini clad chick in it. You guys will buy anythign if an attractive woman is associated. Put a homely chick to match the homely guy in a sit com and you guys wont watch.

And Drew may have lost weight but he is still overweight and not nearly as attractive as the women he's dated. My point still stands.

I agree with your point though; but its the same with everywhere else in life. Women are looked at differently than men because historically it's always been the woman's job to make sure she looks pretty for her man etc. Although I think a lot of is that women also hold themselves up to a higher standard than men do. I've actually guys brag about the size of their beer gut; it's pretty disgusting.

The competition for the limited amount of female roles in Hollywood doesn't help either. If you don't take care of yourself there are a million women behind you that do.

Check him out and who he's dating in real life sometime, and I think you'll find that the hot chicks aren't out of his league.

Or, perhaps by "out of his league" you were saying that on a scale of physical attractiveness, the ones he dates on his show (and in real life) are much more physically attractive than he is. I won't disagree there, but nobody in their right mind would argue that men are less superficial and shallow than women are.

I'm talking about general standards of appearance, Sylvus. The point I am making is that it is EXPECTED for women to accept ugly or fat guys, where men typically expect women who is in better shape than themselves. Just like Hayley pointed out, many guys would call a woman shallow for making appearance-based decisions, yet most men I've even known are way more guilty of it. The TV shows play out those expectations for better ratings. And it works because the male mind needs to look at something pretty and an average, chubby woman (to match her average chubby husband) does not appeal to the male mind.

Whoa, whoa. I didn't mean to touch off a debate on who's shallower than whom. I was saying that the women who will be on this show have been selected for their extraordinary shallowness, not to mention their incredible good-looks.

As far as looks go, I think it's mostly a myth that hot chicks will date fat, ugly guys for very long -- let alone marry them. That's a sitcom convention more than anything else.

Unless the guy is loaded, most chicks will stay away from him. Girls and guys are equally shallow about looks; the difference is that men are honest enough to admit it.

I think the show would be more successful if men were hypnotized to think the woman was hot. Men care more about looks, women care more about money, when you get down to social stereotypes. Honestly women are far more likely to date/marry a less attractive guy, less likely to date/marry someone with little finacial stability. It all goes back to nesting instinct. Women subconciously are attracted to men who can provide a stable environment for their offspring.

There has been a lot of research done on beauty and scientists are finding interesting correlations between fertility and social ideas of what is beautiful. For example, women with better complexions are more fertile. Men instinctually want a healthy woman. Women want a healthy mate as well, but I just think the aesthetic impulse is greater in men and security needs are greater in women.

People don't like to hear that we still are controlled by residual instincts, but I don't see it as a big deal. Accepting the innate differences between the sexes and not letting those instincts rule your decisions makes getting along with the opposite sex a lot easier.

I'm not offended by the examples I gave. I find it amusing how the media & Hollywood manipulate the male aesthetic impulse.

Roseanne - sweet god almighty

Drew Carey Show - We forgot that Mimi is basicly the female lead..and she is tipping that shitty scale alright

Cybill - never was a hotty

Grace Under Fire - Brett Butler, named after a man, and kinda looks like one too...

Well, those are the examples I can remember off the top of my head...but I'm sure there are more. I do agree that most shows follow the equation of bad looken' dude with hotty wife...but...maybe they just look that hot cause they are next to some fat old actor??

I was talking about couples where one is more attractive than the other. You won't find any with an attractive man married/involved with a fat and/or ugly woman.

Double standard? Sure, that's why all the leading Hollywood actors are fat slobs. That's why almost every guy on a soap opera is packing on an extra 30 or 40 pounds. Women are no less guilty of glorifying attractiveness then men are.

You misunderstand. The double stand comment was in response to men who call a woman shallow when looks mean something to her (when they themselves are ruled by it more). Its a double-standard when something is expected of one gender and not the other.

The last two of your comments seem to contradict each other so its hard to respond. I know I never blamed men for what women do or not do (thx word in mouth). I just think its inappropriate to bash a woman who doesn't like a guy cause he's fat and/or ugly. I also think its inappropriate for most men to find fault in a woman who is slightly overweight when they themselves are overweight. I see it time & time again though. I illustrated those TV shows because its a reflection of what society wants. TV shows pick up on all sorts of psychological/social marketing research for ratings as I have already said. They know men would better identify with a fat slob (cause many are close to being fat slobs themselves) BUT ratings would not benefit from having a normal or equally fat (proportionally) female co star. Its just the way it is. Big deal. I'm not a man, so I don't get offended that I'm so easily read by the media/Hollywood, so its nothing to me. I just think you're a fool if you can't see it.

for the sake of Joe's integrity and honor he should choose nobody and bow out of the whole deal

Zora seems to be the most down to earth girl, girl who could probably live with someone like Joe, I just feel sorry for what she';s gonna go through when he picks her and reveals she's been lied to in the name of ratings and entertainment

I liked Zora, but honestly I think she is too uptight. The swimsuit thing was kinda bad. Yeah, I'd be kinda shy about prancing around on TV in a bathing suit, but I wouldn't make a big deal about it, I'd just suck it up and get in the pool quick!

Plus Zora has a nice body so I'm not sure what's she so freaked about. Then there was the kissing thing... I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate that Zora is very conservative about sex. She has not exhibited a single example of a wild side and I think a guy like Evan (well I think most guys actually) wants little bit of a wild side. Not freaky, mind you, but a woman who can be aggressive every once in awhile.

Call me crazy, but I don't even really feel like Evan is doing the lying. It's all Fox's fault, it'll be a shame if he and one of the girls truly like each other beyond the money but she feels betrayed and drops him. Though it will be much more interesting to watch in that case.

I'd ask what some of the women around here would think if put in that situation, but I'd like to believe you all wouldn't enter a contest to marry someone strictly because you believed they had $50M.

I honestly don't think its JUST because the money. If I were unattached and was given the chance, yes I would do it and I'm about as anti-materialistic as you can get and still have ovaries. Actually I find that most men care about $$ more than I and one of the top 5 things I hate about a person would be if they are materialistic. I live life to learn and experience new things and something like that offers a lot of possibility for enrichment and excitement. I wouldn't marry a guy just for money, the connection would have to be there, but I would go try it out. Just because he's loaded (or not) doesn't mean that he wouldn't be the perfect guy for me.
