One of the things that contributed to the survival and evolution of humans is their omnivorousness. We're not hooked on a particular food, like Koala bears are. We can eat just about anything. Vegetarianism, a break in that evolutionary tradition, is strictly a social act that separates the eater from others, tends to make that person believe that they are somehow a morally superior individual, and allows him to feel more virtuous than meat eaters. In that way it's like choosing not to use a cell phone or avoiding television at all costs. Nothing wrong with that. If it works for you and harms no one, then go ahead and do it. Good for you!

Would add to this, "And don't be a sanctimonious douche about it!" Most Vegans, Mac users/Apple zealots, Christian fundamentalists, white supremacists and others who are militant about their "thing" that they've chosen to wrap their life around simply alienate everyone by their bigoted and judgmental (as Spang has done lately) presentation of their beliefs.

If they'd just chill a bit people might actually listen to them.

With my Soylent meals, I'm pretty damn close to being a veggie myself although I'll eat anything for entertainment.
