2014 Finished Game List

Post by Aslanna »

Here is where we keep track of which games we've finished for the year. I think keeping our small group of remaining posters playing and discussing on the same thread would be better than splitting us up into console specific threads.

--What counts as finished?

Well, I say it's when you see credits roll (if possible). Some games are perpetual, such as sports games, things like Battlefield 1943, and many others. For these, it's whenever you feel you've accomplished the goals you set out for yourself in the game. For something like L4D, it may be as simple as playing through all the maps, or as complicated as getting every acheivement in the game. We're using the honesty system here, so when you've finished a game, go ahead and list it!

What counts as complete?

This is a significant difference over simply finishing a game. Completing means you have snagged 1000/1000 acheivements or platinum trophied the game. You have done everything there is to do in that game. This counts for games as large as Fallout 3 and as small as an XBL or PSN game. If games have no "proof" or scoring method, it's all you're decision.

--What counts as a game?

It's a harder question than you maight think. For instance, when tallying up the games I finished last year, I had to really think about some particular situations. One such issue was "Do I count each piece of DLC for Fallout 3 seperately"? My answer was yes. However, the DLC for Gears 2 and L4D were only one map, so I chose not to count them. I totally counted Peggle on my iPhone, since I beat that like a rented mule. In the end, it's up to you. Some situations will just depend on your personal opinion on what you consider as a game, or just an addition to the game itself. More examples are the latest Borderlands DLC (not games IMO) and the GTA4 expansions Lost and the Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony (both games!).

--Do multiple playthroughs count?

I say yes! I played the single player of Halo 3, Gears 1, and World at War only to play all the way through them again at a later time in co-op mode with a friend. I plan on doing a co-op run through RE5 sometime this year. I count each one of those complete playthroughs as finishing another game. I think you should give yourself credit for the time/effort it takes to play through your favorite games multiple times. This also helps ensures that you continue to play games for enjoyment.

--What systems count?

All of them. iPhone, PC/Steam, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP, fucking anything and everything!

The format will be as such:

Date - Game - System - COMPLETE

Only use the red completed msg when you have completed a game. The rest are just assumed that you finished a game.

LOL.. Wasn't it though! Loved the that ending.

I wrapped up Ryse: Son of Rome today. That too has quite the ending sequence. Great exposition throughout the whole story as well. Pacing was great and gameplay was fun.

This is probably one of the most graphically violent games I've played in the last little while.

The game is currently free with PS+. It doesn't take that long to finish, but it's definitely worth playing.

I finally got around to getting the Platinum trophy for Tearway. First of the year! Nothing overly taxing other than the few trophies you have to get for doing chapters without dying. Collectibles guide was handy as well since some of those I would have never found on my own.

AC4 is up next. The hardest part for me will probably be completing the main missions at 100% followed by the Legendary ships. The MP isn't that bad other than just pointless grinding. 440k XP to go!

The Legendary ships all have a weak point and /or an overly strong attack that you need to avoid. Once your ship is fully upgraded, the trick is figuring those out and you're golden.

The biggest PITA for me was the one in the upper right corner of the map.

Finished Zelda: A Link between Worlds this morning. They pulled off a great feat of giving us a new title with all the elements that made A Link to the Past just a memorable game.

Highly recommended.

Well the upshot to LocoCycle is that it's a relatively easy 1000 Gamerscore to unlock. The game itself wasn't half bad. The only real chore is unlocking all the extras in the menu such as concept art and videos and the like. 1 playthrough and I had more than enough in-game credits to unlock everything.

There was only 1 achievement that was a bit tricky to get and that only took me about 60-90 minutes to pull off.

South Park: Stick of Truth (PS3) Credits Rolled

Good times. Entertaining the entire 14-16 hours. Played the Mage Class. I'm sure it's fun with any class.

Up to 3 in March already.

Got a credit roll in Dragon's Crown last week. Solid game overall. Very enjoyable I thought. Will probably go back for a few and try some more classes.

Finished up both Titanfall campaigns yesterday. I guess this counts technically.. Game is phenomenal.

My son is home sick today so we put Lego LOTR back in and picked up where it was left off. Ended up playing for about 90 minutes and finishing that one too. Travelers Tale does amazing work every time I play their stuff.

I finished Dead Nation on the PS4. Debating if I really want to try for the platinum or not. It was a bit of a pain on the PS3 and I don't need the extra frustration!

D3 with Crusader down on Normal. What a fantastic game. I'm off to do adventure mode next for gear and grouping.

I'm close with Infamous Second Son as well as AC4. I had the day off today and I think I might have been able to finish both of those off if I had played just those, but the siren call of D3 is strong!

AC4 finally finished. I would bounce around to other games for awhile and eventually circle back for 30 minutes here and then repeat. Great game. Love all the naval stuff.

I'm working on Batman: Arkham Asylum now. I never finished that, but I think I'm almost to the very end.

I really wanted to platinum the last of us, but I don't think it will happen due to the multiplayer. It is the most imbalanced multiplayer experience I've ever had, and the people that play it are amongst the biggest cunts I've ever had the misfortune of encountering. Really a disappointment considering how awesome the single player is.

Finished Shovel Knight last night. Clocked in at about 6 hours when all said and done. It's a pretty great, retro platformer that's pretty challenging in some spots and quite fun. You can tell it's pretty heavily inspired by some of the early Mega Man games.

Dead Space 2 down. Yet another game I was pretty far into (6hrs) when I was distracted by other games. I only had 3 more hours to beat it. Great game for Halloween time! The first game was better but 2 was good too. I have 3, which is rather loathed, but I'll play it eventually and judge for myself.

I thought it was a great game! It took a bit to really understand how to approach combat, but once I did, I fell into a nice groove. I completed it online, surprisingly finding full parties all hours of the day and night, all week long.

CoD: AW down!

This was the best campaign in the series IMO. I think it's because the story focused on 3-4 characters, tops. The other games got pretty confusing at times swapping between characters and perspectives so often. Kevin Spacey was pretty goddamn good in this too. He elevated the material a great deal. Missions were more varied overall and I was surprised with some of the things you were able to do, such as a pretty large sandbox stealth level (complete with forgiving checkpoints for lots of experimentation).

Good stuff!

The multiplayer is crazy with all the double jumping, stealth, and side dashing. I played several hours and then tried to play Destiny afterwards. Jesus it's hard to go back. It's just so methodical and plodding by comparison.

I have a stack of about 15 new games sitting next to me and I have no idea what to play next. I'm strongly leaning towards GTAV on the PS4, but it's a tough chouce with so many great AAA games laying about! My wife informed me that we'll be delving back into Diablo 3 for some rift filled good times tonight. I really do love playing that game via couch co-op with my wife. It's one of our favorite things to do after we put the kids to bed.

Also, the new WoW expansion is out and is the best one yet. I know I say that every single expansion, but goddamn Blizzard always builds upon it's previous lessons learned and it shows with every new release. My feral druid is only lvl 95 atm, but I try to do my garrison missions twice a day, even if I can't sit down for a proper play session.

Just wrapped up AC Unity. It's a gorgeous game with a decent story. Ubisoft really need to get their shit together and stop tying so many add-ons to their games. Between the game, the Companion mobile app, uPlay and ACInitiates, it's not surprising that nothing worked.

I'll play Rogue whenever it makes it's way to PS4 but I'll probably skip Unity. From everything I've seen it just doesn't look like a game I'd enjoy. Maybe when it hits $10.

What I enjoyed about Unity is that it was a return to the spirit of what made AC2. Almost 0 bullshit except for the in-game chests that can only be opened in the Companion App.

The new movement engine takes some getting used to but works really well when you get into the flow of things. Enemies won't just attack you one at a time sequentially adding real challenge to the fighting (Although I've been 1-hit killed a few times when I wanted into an area of Paris that was labeled "difficult").

I'm planning on picking up Rogue when they move it up to current gen systems or when it reaches 10-15$ on the 360 (although I really hate buying games on last gen consoles these days. It's why I don't own Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel yet)
