Winnow wrote:Xbox One has a feature in beta that allows you to resume your game from where you left off after powering up your console. Does PS4 have this capability? Think of it like a virtual OS that freezes and resumes without having to load the game.
It was announced awhile ago but got 'delayed' for the launch. The Vita has it which is nice. Just hit the button and it goes to sleep. Turn it back on you're where you left off so you don't have to reload the game and your save. It shouldn't be too hard to implement for the PS4 but I'd imagine the biggest problem, which the Vita wouldn't encounter, is the HDD since if you do it while something is loading or saving maybe it could hose something up. They just need to allow those operations to finish first and it shouldn't be a big deal. I'm sure it will be put in eventually.
Unless the XBO one works differently it's just like a fancy hibernation feature that operating systems have had for years. I haven't read about it so don't know the technical details.
The console should be smart enough to not power down if it's saving or accessing the hard drive. I imagine that would only be an issue if you actually unplugged it while it was happening.
Considering the long load times on both consoles, a resume feature saves a lot of time since you typically play the same game for several sessions.
The resume feature is nice on the Vita. Wish I had more of a reason to use that thing. Monster Hunter will get me to at least turn it back on to try that out.
That is cool and all if something like that interests you (it doesn't), and if you keep your console in sleep mode instead of powering down like you should (I don't). This isn't to mention the plethora of issues I've read are caused by leaving the One in sleep mode since I bought it.
As you’ve probably read by now, cumulative PS4 sales have now surpassed six million units worldwide following the successful launch in Japan just over a week ago. It’s truly humbling to see the rate at which gamers across the globe are choosing PS4 as their next gen console of choice.
Over 6 million! That's a lot of millions for a console with no games.
I'm getting more use out of my PS3 than PS4. Thanks Geohot!
There are a few games I'd buy if they were on the PS4. Getting tired of the transition period. Sony needs to get rolling with the Playstation NOW streaming before the PS3 games get stale.
Leonaerd wrote:I'm still not sold on either console. A really good Twisted Metal would change my mind, though.
I doubt that will happen. Didn't the one on the PS3 do pretty poorly? I thought Jaffe was like "Screw this I'm done with making console games". I could be remembering it wrong about it doing poorly but I do know he left the company though.
According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Eat Sleep Play's home paper, the Twisted Metal developer has laid off eight employees, or approximately 20% of its staff. Additionally, the company intends to move "from producing console titles to mobile games."
We've reached out to Sony for further clarification as to what this means for Twisted Metal. While Sony doesn't own Eat Sleep Play, it does own the Twisted Metal brand.
I suppose it's possible that Sony could just give it to someone else but I don't really see that happening.
Towerfall is supposed to be fun. But it's couch co-op only so probably a pass from me.
I'll probably pick up SteamWorld Dig (PS4/Vita Cross-Buy) which was a 3DS/Steam game and got pretty decent reviews.
Still undecided on Infamous. I'll wait on reviews I guess.
Fez is Cross-Buy so you get it on PS3/PS4/Vita. Unknown if it has cross-save. I doubt I'll get that though as i have it on Steam and have only played it for an hour or so.
I just saw the Tretton news. Not sure why Sony would decide to sack him now of all time. Playstation hasn't done this well in years tbh.
In his place, they're putting the COO of the Sony Network Entertainment (PS Store).
IT's a shame cause Tretton was one of those really genuine people at Sony that you could tell really loved games. I like his as much as I liked Peter Moore when he ran Xbox. Hopefully Sony isn't getting their version of Don Mattrick.
Jack Tretton is leaving his role as president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, the company announced today, the "result of a mutual agreement between Mr. Tretton and SCEA not to renew their contractual relationship."
and
It is with mixed feelings that I inform you that I will be stepping down as President and CEO of SCEA effective March 31, 2014. This is a result of a mutual agreement with SCEA, and I leave knowing that the PlayStation brand has never been stronger, PlayStation 4 momentum continues to accelerate, and the future will only get brighter for our gamers.
These are not declarations of someone who is leaving willingly.
Infamous: Second Son has over 600,000 pre-orders worldwide
The surprising part of the number is that the pre-orders are evenly split across PAL and North American regions. Typically, Infamous franchise has sold more in North America.
Not bad as far as pre-orders go. Actual sales figures should be interesting. Maybe it will squash the notion that every game has to have Multiplayer modes these days.
For comparison:
As of March 3,2014 , Titanfall : Xbox One version has over 385,000 preorders in North America.
I wonder if they at least got 215k elsewhere in the world.

I'll definitely be picking it up. Having both consoles now, I can say for certain I still very much prefer the PS4 to the One. I'm not very fond of the GUI/dashboard, the layout of the Netflix app is hands down the worst of any device I've used Netflix on, same with basically any other app I've used on the Xbox. It also seems like there are considerably less features missing from the PS4 currently that were on the PS3 in comparison to the One/360. I like how the PS4 dash is clean and nothing is buried 45 menus deep, I know they will both refine these things over time, but I just like the feel of the PS4 much better overall thus far.
The only thing I don't much care for on the PS4 is that all the programs are in one long ribbon. I personally don't have a ton of games as to where that's an issue for me but it would be nice to organize things better. I'm sure UI improvements like that will be added in the not too distant future.
That and the key tones or whatever the option name is. Which if you turn off also disables your Trophy sounds. I need the audio ding!

Xbox One had this prior to the Feb Update. 2 rows of apps and games stretching out towards the right.
With the Feb update, the far left has tabs now, Games, Apps and Queue. You can reach the categories by hitting the left trigger(or bumper) and then choose what you want.
Or just say "Xbox, Go to Titanfall" (which you can do from anywhere, at any time)
Winnow wrote:Xbox One and PS4 are similar except PS4 has the stupid ribbon while Xbox One has voice search and can be snapped to side of screen.
Xbox One Netflix has the edge over PS4. Both stream Super HD (high bitstream) on Netflix.
This is ridiculous even for your trolling ass. Xbox Netflix has the edge? Are you fucking drunk? It has everything grouped into categories the same way but has all the randomly shaped sizes for the sampling of titles it shows you in each category, and trying to make it look "pretty" like this means you see much fewer titles without having to drill down further into menus.
There is no way in hell anyone that wasn't trolling could honestly say the functionality is better on the One for Netflix.
I tried the voice commands on Xbox, but "Xbox, go fuck yourself" and "Xbox, self destruct" didn't work.
The only thing I don't like about the Xbox One Netflix app is the ... button that's too small and easy to miss.
The rest of it looks like the Windows 8 version which I find very pleasant. Both versions load up faster than any other version I've used in the past. (Don't have a basis of comparison for the PS4 version though).
Using Kinect to do anything was a major PITA. The best thing it did was auto sign me in when it saw my face. Other than that, the voice commands were infinitely more trouble than they were worth. The very worst thing was that it always tried to do various Kinect things when I was talking with friends and family while trying to play a game. The "thinking mic" icon in the corner was on way too often when I wasn't trying to use the Kinect at all. I hate that it's default is "on" while playing Plants vs Zombies. I have mine turned off, but I get to hear all the background noise constantly blaring from other people's device. I've left matches because it was so annoying.
I had the camera itself turned off for awhile then realized it's the only way to sign in to XBL without having to go through a bunch of menus to do it manually. There is no other option! I have myself auto signed in on the PS4, but I require the Kinect to accomplish the same thing I can do automatically on my 360, PS3/4, and WiiU. I also unplugged my cable box from the Xbone some time ago.
The Kinect would not missed in the slightest. It is completely unnecessary and adds more cons than pros IMO.
The Xbone interface is getting better though. I hope it continues to evolve.
The only thing that doesn't work consistently for me for some stupid reason is "Xbox On". It's the one command I have the most trouble with. Everything else is generally pretty much instant and works first try.
I bought a tv mount for the kinect, and I've had the privacy cover it came with over the camera since I bought it. I've used the voice commands minimally, but I don't use most of the functions the voice is good for.
Animalor wrote:The only thing that doesn't work consistently for me for some stupid reason is "Xbox On". It's the one command I have the most trouble with. Everything else is generally pretty much instant and works first try.
Well something like voice recognition is pretty dependent on the person speaking so it makes sense that it might work perfectly well for one person but be totally useless for someone else.
For me personally I don't find buttons to be inconvenient so I'll go with what's been working for decades. But for those that do enjoy it hopefully the technology improves because for many people that time currently isn't now. Something being just "good enough" doesn't cut it for me. It needs to work 100% of the time (or at least 99%) or in my view it's useless.
Animalor wrote:The only thing that doesn't work consistently for me for some stupid reason is "Xbox On". It's the one command I have the most trouble with. Everything else is generally pretty much instant and works first try.
Same but "Xbox On" seems to work the second time I say it every time for me. That's actually a good thing. Prevents accidental turning on of your Xbox from commercials or just random conversation. Almost seems like the first "Xbox On" wakes up the Xbox and the second turns it on.
I've used both PS4 and Xbox One Netflix and Funk is once again smoking crack. I'm indifferent to either and neither is notably better than the other but I use the Xbox One Netflix because I prefer the overall UI of the Xbox.
I'm not surprised Netflix is the topic discussion on the PS4 thread. It must be getting used a lot without any decent exclusives on the system. Probably should have grabbed an Xbox One and either and Apple TV, Roku or Chromecast and saved $100.00 overall while being able to play all of the fun console exclusives.
Proper room for xbox one should look something like the above.
Does your voice sound like Donald Duck or do you mention the Xbox a lot in conversation? Have a room that echos? (hard walls instead of sound baffling)
If your walls don't look like the above, you've got some work to do. Will also help with any audio (movies, music....even PS4!)
You also may want to consider something like this with the Kinect 2 being positioned inside the sound baffled area.
If you don't want to take the time to design your own acoustic baffled room, just use the design for University of Michigan's football stadium.
Or.. Just pick up a fucking controller and forget about the voice control which is obviously shit for many (Most? Half?) people. Problem solved. Oooo pushing buttons HARD.
Kinect 1 was the same I don't know why everyone expected Kinect 2 to be magically so much better. So if you're miserable using the voice commands, or waving your hands in the air like you just don't care, you have nobody to blame but yourself!
Fairweather Pure wrote:Am I the only one where the Kinect is always trying to figure out if I'm trying to voice a command while I'm just chatting with friends and family?
It's about 8-10 feet away from me and I have reconfigured it several times and it happens every time.
So the trick to reconfiguring Kinect is cranking the volume very very high when doing it. It you put it too loud, it will complain and then you can drop it slightly until it stops complaining.
At that point you should be ok.
But yeah, if Xbox is mentionned frequently when having conversations, the little mic will appear.
Not sure why you spent money on a new 1080p TV when most of your XBO games seem to run at 720p!
Given the similarity of the CPU architecture in both consoles, one of the best ways to compare relative performance is by looking at cross-platform games. So far, PlayStation 4 has taken the lead in this category; Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag all run at higher resolutions on PlayStation 4 with frame rates equal to or better than their Xbox One counterparts. Now, Sony can add Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes to its list of bragging rights as well. Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima confirmed that the PlayStation 4 version of Ground Zeroes runs at 1080p, and the Xbox One version at 720p--luckily for Xbox One owners, their version still hits 60 frames per second.
We already know the PlayStation 4 version of Ground Zeroes is technically better than the Xbox One, but Kojima cited the difference as "slight" in a tweet from a few weeks ago.
Let me be clear: the PlayStation 4 version is noticeably better, and when you compare it against the Xbox One version in person, there's more than a slight difference. I played both consoles on a ~ 36-inch LCD monitor from three to four feet away, and the impact of going from 1080p to 720p was obvious and pronounced.
Ground Zeroes on PlayStation 4 fulfills every expectation I have for next-gen games: full HD resolution (1080p), 60 FPS, detailed models, and advanced lighting. Eventually, I hopped onto an Xbox One. I was immediately struck by the downgrade in visuals. The frame rate and lighting effects were as impressive as the PlayStation 4 version, but everything looked rough around the edges. "Did they turn off anti-aliasing?", I asked a nearby Konami employee. "No," he said. When I continued to push for some sort of explanation, I got the answer we've heard time and time again since the consoles launched last year: the Xbox One version is only 720p.
We wanted to take a moment to inform you of a planned network maintenance, currently scheduled for Monday, March 10th from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM Pacific Time (11:30 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time). We expect this maintenance to last approximately 5.5 hours.
If you’ve signed in to the network any time since March 6th you will be able to play games online and access partner apps such as Netflix during this maintenance period. The PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home and Account Management will not be available during this time, and users may receive a maintenance notification when attempting to access these services.
We thank you for your patience and support and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. In order to access online game play and partner apps during this routine maintenance, we ask that you please sign in to the network prior to Monday, March 10th.
As long as you've logged in recently you won't really notice anything amiss other than the store. It's less than a 6 hour window but I'm sure some people (Winnow) will freak out regardless.
Why would I freak out? I haven't had my PS4 on in weeks.
Been using my PS3 a lot though. Completed South Park and now Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk which has turned out to be a fun game. I'll comment on it later.
You can set whether to adjust the time for daylight saving. The time will not be adjusted if you remove the checkmark from [Date and Time] > [Adjust Daylight Saving Automatically].
This item is displayed only if the region set under [Date and Time] > [Time Zone] is one that implements daylight saving.
So its a checkmark. Not sure if the default is checked or not.

Automatic is good. Previously you had to go in every few months to add/remove it. Minor annoyance but it's nice to not have to bother.
I decided to pass on Infamous Second Son(at on least Day 1).
I've been pretty good about buying and completing this generation's games. I'm almost done with AC4 and I just started Tomb Raider. I decided I will finish both of those before buying Infamous. I may even play through the first and second one before I buy the third. I have to crack down on thins backlog and not create a new monster in the meantime.
