Last year I paid over $5 million in taxes. I know a little something or two about upper-income taxation. It sucks, but it's a necessary evil. There's no reason tax rates need to be as high as they are currently (I lose more than $.50 on every dollar), but now sure as shit isn't the time to be lowering them.

When Bush's administration proves itself capable of reigning in worthless defense spending (i.e., missile-defense bullshit), then it can lower taxes all it wants. You just can't have your cake and eat it, too; you need to balance things. If you're lowering taxes, you need to decrease government spending. This is a hard lesson for some Republicans to learn. It killed Bush Sr.'s chances at reelection, and I hope Bush Jr. learns it soon.

Perfect illustration of why national sales tax > tiered income tax.

Millie,

The thing is most of the new jobs in the country are created by small business owners, not big business. Small business owners are usually Sub Chapter S corporations or LLC's who pay income tax based solely on the profitablility of their business. Profit in these cases are treated as ordinary income tax.

The logic behind Bush's tax cuts goes back to Reagans era where loosening the taxation on small business owners stimulates growth from the largest new employer group therefore generating more dollars to be spent by the hiring or putting more people to work. Obviously the more people working means less unemployment, more spending because of this stimulates or drives an economy upward which produces more tax revenues helping to solve the national deficit. Thats what the tax cuts are aiming to do here. I doubt anyone can argue with merit the economy we had under Reagans years in office.

So as tax cuts go, I as a small business owner look forward to them. I still say a national sales tax > any income taxation going. It's fair for all, eliminates tax deductions from the rich, and will in a short time eliminate the National deficit.
