Forza 5

Post by Winnow »

Animalor, thanks for letting me use your drivatar as a bumper to get around many a corner in my last few races!

Drivatars are great. You should see mine start to pop up in your races. They make the races more interesting. Unpredictable. Whenever I see a name above a car I recognize pass me, it motivates me a little more to overtake them again. I try to use the rewind as little as possible but I do tend to take the inside and bounce off of cars to get around corners.

I've completed two events. I picked mini's as my second and did pretty well. I picked up the Gold Medalist achievement. I saw you had it in my friends feed list and it motivated me to get it. I'm currently ranked 159,345 in the world!

Forza 5 is pretty good although it's no frills. I'd say it's lacking a little in presentation but the races themselves are good.

I almost bought it today but realized I have so much to do in Forza 4 still that it would be pretty silly to buy it. I like the presentation of Forza Horizon so much more than the normal Forza games anyway.

Besides, NFS Rivals will finally arrive on Monday and that should quench my next gen racing itch for the time being.

Yeah, I'd pass on this one if you have other racers to play around with. I'd prefer Horizons as well. Still having fun with this though. It's arcadish in the sense that you don't have to repair your vehicles anymore and can play bumper cars around the turns. I fishtail cars to get by them sometimes.

I seem to go back and forth with your Drivatar the most. Last race you came in 1st and I was in 2nd. You passed me right before the finish. Bastard! I think I overtook you in the overall rankings but that's just because I drove a little more than you and picked up the 10 Gold Medal Achievement. Won't last long.

I won my first two multiplayer races. Was in a green Ford Fiesta. I assume that's what you'd see if you raced against my Drivatar in the Mini class. Some guy from France kept cheering in French that he won. I guess he was so far behind me he thought he came in first or something.

I love the fact that you're still very decently rewarded regardless of the position you come in. This game doesn't preach really winning, it's preaching great racing.

I will use rewind if I make an egregious mistake or vastly overestimate what my car can do taking a curve but other than that, I seem to be a lot more accepting than I usually am in these types of game.

This is the first Forza game I've bought since the original on the original Xbox.

Here's a typical fight for position with Anirask's Drivatar (Animalor) He's the silver car.

Well normally he doesn't fishtail me! ...ok maybe I cut you off just a little!

Here's one where I don't hit you at least! Scenery on this track (Prague) is really pretty.

Based on the numbers we've seen from our first week of FM5, as well as feedback we heard directly from you, we're in the process of making some changes to the Forza Motorsport 5 economy. But, while we're putting the final touches on that, we want to make sure everyone continues having a great time with Forza 5. So, the following programs are going into effect this week:

1) Starting this Friday we're offering a 50 percent discount (credits & tokens) on every car in the game. This discount is available to all players. Every car, from the 1970 Nissan Datsun 510 to the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO will be 50 percent off, so, if you've got your eye on something special on the car list, now's the time to play and add them to your garage! This discount will be available between 12:01 a.m. Pacific on Friday, Nov. 29 and 11:59 p.m.Pacific on Sunday, Dec. 1.

2) If you are a Forza Motorsport 5 VIP member, you'll receive the 2013 Lotus E21 grand prix car as a thank you. (Note: You must own Forza Motorsport 5 VIP membership to take advantage of this offer.) In addition to being one of the most radical and expensive cars in FM5, the E21 is also one of the quickest. For more on the E21, check out its entry on the Forza Motorsport 5 Cars page. This gift may take up to 24 hours or longer to be fulfilled in the game and, in order to receive your gift, you will need to back out to the main title screen with the orange McLaren P1 and then press "A" to log back in.

3) Those players who have already purchased the 2013 Lotus E21 as of today (Wednesday, November 27) will also receive the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO asa further thank you. This gift may take up to 24 hours or longer to be fulfilled in the game and, in order to receive your gift, you will need to back out to the main title screen with the orange McLaren P1 and then press "A" to log back in.

4) For those players who have purchased the LaFerrari Car Pack or the Forza Motorsport 5 Car Pass we'll gift the 2013 LaFerrari directly into your Forza Motorsport 5 garage. No need to purchase the car separately with in-game credits or tokens. (Note: In order to receive and use these gift cars, you'll need to own either the LaFerrari Car Pack or the Forza Motorsport 5 Car Pass). This gift may take up to 24 hours or longer to be fulfilled in the game and, in order to receive your gift, you will need to back out to the main title screen with the orange McLaren P1 and then press "A" to log back in.

5) Finally, we're dramatically increasing the credit payout available to all Forza players in December via Forza Rewards, our ongoing loyalty program that rewards players with credits and cars for playing Forza games. You'll be able to redeem these rewards in December but here's a tip: The higher your Tier level reaches before December rolls around, the better the rewards you'll be able to redeem, so get your play time in now and level up!

Now, a word about tokens in the Forza Motorsport 5 Limited Edition. In our original description for Forza Motorsport 5's Limited Edition, we told you that Limited Edition owners would get 1,250 in-game tokens, which we mistakenly said would be enough tokens to afford any car in the Forza 5. It isn't. As a result, a number of you have pointed this out to us – that there are a number of cars in the game that cost more than 1,250 tokens to purchase.

We're sorry. In order to make up for this discrepancy, we will soon be offering Forza Motorsport 5 Limited Edition owners the chance to download and own the car of their choice in the game. Players will be able to choose from any of the on-disc cars in Forza 5 and will be able redeem this offer on ForzaMotorsport.net via a dedicated page that will be available no later than December 16.

Looking ahead, we'll continue to make further adjustments to the Forza Motorsport 5 economy when they're needed and I'll be sure to keep you informed as these changes are made. For now, take advantage of all the cool stuff coming your way and, as always, thanks for your patience and for being a member of the Forza Motorsport community.
Nice to see them take decisive action so quickly.

It's a nice start. I hope all developers bask in the backlash and think twice before butchering their games in order to jam microtransactions into them.

I'm also impressed they listened to feedback. Good on them.

EDIT: I fear for Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare strictly because it is a Pop Cap game exclusive to the Xbone. I really want to look forward to that game, but goddammit I just know the're going to fuck it up with microtransactions to hell and back on the Xbone.

I'm not sure if a freebie to a few people and limited time discounts make up for single cars that cost 70$+ in real money or 6 million of the in-game credits.

I'm enjoying Forza, don't get me wrong but they really need to decide if they want to make freemium games or retail games. They shouldn't trying to be both.

That being said, I haven't had any issue with wanting to start a championship yet and not having enough in-game currency for a car.

The limited time solution is for people who bought the game at launch. It's a band aid while they work on a long term fix. I think it shows that they realized they fucked up and it also shows us a glimpse of how they may address the problems.

I have been enjoying the game. I've "purchased" two cars with credits earned from racing, leveling up, and drivatar income. They will be increasing credits earned next month but I like to focus one or two car classes at a time and finish most or all of the tracks with a gold medal (fuck those cone time trials!) before moving on to buying another car for a different car power class so I have enough credits to buy the next class it seems.

I think Forza skimped on the number of tracks (14 as opposed to 28 in Forza 4) which I notice the most. I would have liked more tracks. I don't care about owning every car in the game as much as having a variety of tracks.

Drivatars are the best idea and use of the cloud. I like seeing familiar names in each race and getting to know their styles. Some of the driving styles are really erratic making the races more challenging.

Quicker action would not have been to put in a bajillion microtransactions in a SIXTY DOLLAR GAME in the first place! I could see it for Killer Instinct which is free but it's just stupid for something like this.

What microtransactions? I still don't get what I have to buy? Are they for those that are too impatient to buy cars with credits earned in the game? What am I missing?

Looks like people are bitching because it takes too long to buy the cars in game. They are increasing credit payouts for races next month. It sounds like whining to me.

Anyone who played Forza4 can plainly see what a complete, shitty money grab that Forza5 is by comparison. Less cars, 1/2 the tracks, and significantly increased grinding all in an effort to push microtransactions. They shit on a fantastic franchise by altering the game to make a grab for even more money than the $60 price.

Yeah, whether the idiot gets it or not, any game with micro transactions of that type is designed to push you towards them. Micro transactions have no place in a full price retail game, period.

Lacking tracks is an issue. As for cars, suck it the fuck up and race a little and you'll be able to add cars for $0.00. They're increasing credit payout next month. The entitled generation sucks ass.

Forza 5 patch is live.

edit: patch downloaded and installed but car prices appears same still.

Seems only the very expensive cars were reduced in price. the $318K Porsche I was waiting on is still the same price. Bah!

Tried a race and the payout didn't seem more or much more, they may be weighted by race circuit. Need to read up more on the patch.
a new patch set to reduce the cumulative price of cars within the game by 45 per cent, and on average a 60 per cent rise in the amount of credits paid out per hour
"cumulative" so the bulk of those price reductions are on the high end cars.

edit: the level payout was 35 K instead of 15 K so the leveling bonus is definitely improved.

Really like my new Porsche!

Here's a clusterfuck start to a race where I lose control trying to pass Anirask/Animalor:

https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=5 ... 5E4%211104

Somehow all of the clips that I pass you on don't save or are cut off!

A good example of using the rewind feature:

https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=5 ... 5E4%211105

I don't use it to avoid the crash, just to perfect my crash into a full 360 so I can keep on racing. :)

I need to give my car a new paint job.

Some of these skinny tracks are more like playing bumper cars than racing. Having a lot harder time with the high performance vehicle. I'm finishing with silver and bronze medals instead of golds.

I played a track for the first time the other day that had this problem. Driveatars are creating situations where everyone you're racing against is an over-aggressive asshole. So kinda like persistant multiplayer.

It's "realistic" for multiplayer. I see cars flying all over the place, the same as you would in multiplayer. Your drivatar is erratic but far from the worst offender of my friend avatars. There are also patterns. Your drivatar seems to always do better at the end of a race. Now, that could be if you made more rewind corrections at the end of a race than at the beginning but whatever it happens to be, I've been noticing some driving habits of the drivatars on my screen. They are an excellent addition to the game.

I haven't tried changing the drivatar difficulty level which improves credits earned by playing against more successful drivatars. I suck at this game and like it just the way it is but for those that are elitist, you can certainly push yourself up into possibly more disciplined drivatar races.

I did upgrade my Porsche from A class to R and then found out it didn't qualify for any of the circuit races to complete the campaign. Wasted 35K downgrading my car. I guess you can't upgrade anything until finishing the campaigns for each car class. It would be nice if the game automatically downgraded your car for those races instead of actually making you throw away your upgrades and then paying a little to fit the downgraded parts. I don't get that part of the game yet. there's like 6 levels up upgrades (at least for the Porsche I have, each set boosting you into a higher class. Do I have to race something like Indy Cars with my Porsche after upgrading it? I may have to actually find a decent guide for the game.

While the UI in Forza 5 is minumal, and sometimes can be frustrating (quitting to the main menu after finishing a race in one of the 10 race campaign circuits for example), the underlying core of the game is fantastic. Forza 6 needs to come with more tracks and improve on the UI for navigating around the game. Perhaps some UI tweaks may be done with patches in Forza 5. I doubt we'll see any free tracks though.

The video below shows how you go from 4th to 1st around one turn in the track! (the same turn I took the screenshot on)

Animalor's drivatar (Anirask) pulls some shady moves. Watch him try to run me off the road! I wish I didn't have to beat my car to hell to do well in races but I suck otherwise.

I had no idea you could earn credits simply by linking your Xbox Live Account to the Forza web site. I linked it awhile back but totally missed that you earned credits.

I just redeemed 1 million credits here:

https://rewards.forzamotorsport.net/en-us/

That's a major chunk of credits for buying cars. If you've been playing Forza 5 (or had played 3 or 4 in the past) Head over to the site. Its the same place that your Forza Screenshots are stored when you take them in the game.

Animalor, you're eligible for 1 Million credits already (almost at 2 Million point level) and Fairweather, you have 1 million based on your previous Forza games if you haven't redeemed them yet from what I can tell on the friends list.

Not sure what the expire part is about so I'd probably redeem whatever points you get within the next week just in cast it does away.

edit:

Tier 3 is worth getting by the end of December for the extra 1 Million points.

December 2013
Tier 2: FM4 = 20,000 credits, FH = 20,000 credits, FM5 = 1,000,000 credits
Tier 3: FM4 = 40,000 credits, FH = 40,000 credits, FM5 = 2,000,000 credits
Tier 4: FM4 = 60,000 credits, FH = 60,000 credits, FM5 = 1,000,000 credits
Tier 5: FM4 = 80,000 credits, FH = 80,000 credits, FM5 = 1,000,000 credits
Tier 6: FM5 = 1,000,000 cred

Also compare it to the previous month's rewards confirms it's worth the effort this month in Forza 5

November 2013
Tier 2: FM4 = 10,000 credits, FH = 10,000 credits, FM5 = 10,000 credits & Ford Fiesta ST
Tier 3: FM4 = 20,000 credits, FH = 20,000 credits, FM5 = 20,000 credits & Audi RS7
Tier 4: FM4 = 30,000 credits, FH = 30,000 credits, FM5 = 40,000 credits & Ferrari F12 Berlinetta
Tier 5: FM4 = 40,000 credits, FH = 40,000 credits, FM5 = 80,000 credits & McLaren P1
Tier 6: FM5 = 160,000 credits

2) Make sure you click "request a token".
3) Requires a UK post code. If you don't know any use W12 7TQ. It's Top Gear's :P

Hit Tier 3 tonight in Forza which gave me another 2 million credits for the month. Add that to the previous million for Tier 2 and I have about 4 Million Credits including winnings and owning cars for the 13 Circuits I've completed so far.

Animalor, redeem your points for your million tier 2 if you haven't yet. There's no point in holding them as you will get next month's reward as well. The way it works is if you remain a certain tier, you'll keep getting that tier's reward each month. You should try and hit 700 points before the end of December. The 2 Million point reward will get you one or two high end cars.

This game has gotten better as I've played it. Each car and class is it's own beast to learn. I've hated some cars and loved others I didn't expect to.

Great game. I guess I'll be picking up any new tracks they offer for the game as that's the only thing it's lacking...although I've gotten very familiar with the current tracks which helps in races.

I bought the 2013 McLaren P1 for 790K and got my 245mph Achievement. (use Free Play/Le Mans/old track to get it cranked up to 245) You can rent the car to get the achievement if you don't want to buy it. The handling on the P1 is really nice.

Here's me hitting 245. Not sure if the car will go any faster!

I'm glad to see you enjoying Forza 5 so much Winnow. You should really look into getting Forza 4 too. It sells for around $20 and it is rated significantly higher by both gamers and critics by a pretty large margin. If you find that you're really into this series now, I think you owe it to yourself to get 4.

Sign in with your XBL account and then select "Redeem" from the top menus and you can see your points and how many you need to get to the next tier. You don't normally get so many credits as a monthly reward so it's worth grabbing them before the end of the month. Hopefully they'll have some sort of nice reward in January as well but it may revert back to the 40-60K credit range. That's why getting to tier three for a total of 3 million credits for the month is a nice bonus to start your car collection.

It sells for around $20 and it is rated significantly higher by both gamers and critics by a pretty large margin. If you find that you're really into this series now, I think you owe it to yourself to get 4.
Thanks for the thought Fair. I enjoyed the Project Gotham, Burnout and Forza games on the 360 but have no desire to go back to either the 360 or PS3.

While Forza 5 is less extensive (tracks and cars) than Forza 4, it's a great game and will take plenty of my time with the cars available in it. I look forward to Forza Horizon 2 and furture Forza games on the Xbox One. I also wish GT 6 was on the PS4 instead of PS3. I could download it and try it out but I've even lost interest in that for the time being.

As for Forza 5, now that I have a decent car (not that you need one) I tried out some multiplayer. What a blast. The races with 12-16 cars on the track are great. Most of the people chatting crack me up. There are a few idiots but that can't be avoided. With car racing so popular in Europe, you get a lot of euros in the races. I don't speak any euro language fluently but I picked up all the bad words while going to school over there. All I can understand are the random obscenities thrown out when someone gets run off the track. I working on turning off some of the driver assists. No way you can win with assisted breaking in Multiplayer.

The only reason having a higher end car matters in multiplayer is that those races seems to start quicker so there's less waiting for enough people with a certain lower end class car to queue up for a race. I earned about 350K just screwing around in multiplayer last night. That's already almost half of what I paid or the McLaren P1. With the way tuning works in the game, you don't need a super expensive car. There was come guy that had a tricked out VW Beetle that was racing in the 800+ R class race and was doing fine.

Paint jobs are also entertaining. I choose a Harley Quinn theme for my McLaren. I'll eventually design my own. The varied pain jobs out there make for more memorable races with both drivatars and multiplayer.

Oh I redeemed that one already a while back. Thought you meant Tier 3. I'm about 166 shy of that one.

Picked up 300K credits with the new month rewards refresh. Looks like it's down to 100K tier 2, 200K tier 3 for Forza 5.

If you mean my comment about leveling going to 70K, turns out that's for the people that bought the limited edition Forza 5. I get 35K per level which was previously like 12K. I don't think the race payouts changed (~5-6K for Gold)

I'm sitting on 4 million credits pondering which cars to buy.

Ok, I had noticed that one. Didn't realise that the previous amount was only 12. I have the Day One edition, not the LE.

I'm getting about the same. 5-6k per race if I get Gold. About 4.5 per if I get silver.

I bought a RUF CTR2 for the Middle Grand Touring and my first thought as someone who doesn't know shit about cars was that this thing handles like a pig. Loses control very easily and tends to spin out.

Did a quick search for it on the Forza forums and found this:
http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forum ... 90858.aspx
porsches (especially the older generations) are different to drive than every other car out there. the rear engine will need a different style of driving compared to front engine cars.

remember this motto, "slow in, fast out"

get all your braking done before you turn and do not lift off mid corner or the back end will slide around.
I figured this one out 2-3 races in but is still trips me up every now and again. I've used rewind more with this car than in all the previous racing I've done up till now.

And the championship that you use this in doesn't suit this car in the least. No really long straightaways.

When you get there, save yourself the 300k credits and get something else.

Didn't you see the picture of my RUF earlier in this thread? I called it a Porsche but it's the RUF CTR2.That's the first "expensive" car I bought and had a hell of a time with it. Had a much more enjoyable experience with the McLaren P2.

That's the only class where I was getting Silvers instead of Golds. It's cool that Forza offers cars that handle so differently. I still like the paint job on that car but it's been my least favorite to drive.

It's only a timed exclusive. It will be on on 360 and PC as well as other platforms (eventually).
Plants Vs. Zombies Garden Warfare has only been announced for the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC with no release date for the latter. Will it ever hit the PS4 or PS3? PopCap Games’ Brian Lindley can’t come straight out and say it but he does have good news for those platforms.

“We haven’t announced any plans yet for any additional platforms outside of the PC, but the way I typically answer that question is we want to get this game in the hands of as many people as possible. Obviously, we’re exclusively first on the Xbox platforms, but I think in the coming months players will see some announcements that will please them depending on their platform of choice.” Lindley said, delivering the good news for Playstation owners.

The 2nd Free Update for Forza5 is coming out tomorrow (april 10th) and will include a whole new track: Long Beach
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSQnf-ZLDJw

This is in addition to Road America that came out about 2 months ago now. These new tracks will show up automatically as part of MP and in career mode.

They also made a change to the way paid DLC cars work in the game. If you buy a DLC car now, it will automatically appear in your garage. You will no longer need to then buy it again with in-game credits earned by playing.

Fucking duh! I still find it hard to believe it went live the way it did. I can imagine dudes who bought the DLC then ground out the in-game requirements are pissed! They should have anything they put towards DLC cars credited back to them.

The only thing lacking in Forza 5 was tracks so it's nice to see a couple free ones added. Nice.

Road America was nice looking and all but tracks with a lot of foliage/green and not much else I find uninspiring. My favorites in the original set by far are Bernese Alps, Yas Marina and Circuit de Prague.

Long Beach appears to be very similar to those and that makes me very happy.
