iOS Gaming Thread

Post by Fairweather Pure »

I wanted to start a thread strictly for iOS gaming. There are so many games out there that I figured we could crowd source some of the better ones and share when great deals are available.

Heroes vs Monters It is free today only on ipad and iphone. It's an actiony RPG with loot, monsters, quests, and a great amount of action. Things get crazy pretty quick in this game! There is a lot going on so you have to be quick on your toes!

Super StickMan Golf Another free app that is just stupid fun, ala Angry Birds. There are a shit ton osf holes to play and the courses range from simple to diabolical. You have to play through the courses to unlock more, or else you can just buy them.

Imperium Galactica 2 This is a sci-fi simulation/strategy game that was released on PC around 2000. It's a pretty deep game and cheap as dirt. Check out the youtube tutorial video.

About 1:20 in this vid gives actual gameplay:

There are very few iOS games that I play more than 15-20 minutes before removing.
Yes there are games. I just don't find any of them fun for more for very long.

I don't really game on my iPAd (or iPhone)

I did find Order & Chaos really good for being an MMO on iPad/iPhone:

I bought it when it first game out and it's been updated many many times with content. It's like a 1.00/month or 2.99 for six months to play.

I really tried to enjoy gaming on iOS but the 'serious' games are usually complete rubbish with poor controls and the only games I actually enjoyed were the timewasters... but like Animalor, I usually delete them after 15-20 minutes. I would rather have one good Vita or 3DS game over 30+ 'decent' timewasters on iOS/Android.

Only games I currently have on my ipad/ipod are Scrabble, Bejeweled and a couple of other games my 3 year old likes.

Gameloft make some of the better iOS games but they are so tragically derivative.

That's exactly what they're designed to be.

Here's a little more example of the UI and questing

Again, I don't play iPad games for the most part but if you really did want to play an MMO, Order and Chaos has done a great job transferring the experience to the touch screens. It's not really there to provide a story, just the leveling up/questing experience of an MMO.

I played Heroes vs Monsters for 4+ hours yesterday! Damn loot whore games always get me! My team is a Warrior (2H Sword), Cleric, Archer, and Bard. I may do a second game and do a completely different team, but I think a Warrior and Cleric is kind of essential with the other 2 being easily changed around. Barbarians seem pretty powerful, maybe a couple of those would go over well!

Great video advertisement for WELDER (word scrabble type game)

Haven't tried it yet but the commercial is leading me in that direction. (iOS/Android)

This is really addicting. I installed it on my Nexus 7. If nothing else, maybe I can use it for games. The 7" screen seems to work well for that.

Need for Speed Most Wanted is pretty awesome. I played it on the Nexus 7. The 7" form factor is such win for mobile gaming.
