Sad news. I was hoping he'd recover. RIP.

Watched the first episode of Spartacus season two.
It's not bad. Like the first season, it's going to take a few episodes to convince me to watch the entire season. While you can't replace Andy Whitfield, the new Spartacus does a good job filling his sandals.
This takes place after season one and is not a prequel as was the original plan after Andy Whitfield fell ill.

This is the third season. The last season was a prequel. This one is not.

The prequel, Gods of the Arena, was just as engaging as Blood and Sand. The follow up to Blood and Sand, Vengeance, is pretty decent so far. It usually takes a few episodes to get going, so I'll reserve judgement.

My only real complaint with season 2 was that I knew where several of the characters would end up, since it took place just before season 1.

What's with the the season numbering? The file I downlaoded was s02e01 but it's the third season (taking place after season 1) how are the prequel episodes numbered? I haven't had time to search yet.

Which one are you after? Spartacus rise or the time before Spartacus/Crixus?
The series where Gannicus was the King of the Arena (the prequel) is called Gods of the Arena.
If you want to follow Spartacus story you look for Spartacus: Vengeance which is now in it's 2nd season.
Spartacus S02Ep01 is called Fugitivus.
Gods of the Arena only had one Season, and if you are looking for
Gods of the Arena S01Ep01 it's callecd Past Transgressions.
Here is the episode-list of Gods of the Arena (Six episodes)

I agree, really good season so far, the new Spartacus is a little too skinny compared to Andy though, but he is very intense and does a good acting job imho

Starz' 'Spartacus' to end next season
After stabbing, slashing and pummeling countless enemies, Spartacus will slay his final Roman next year.
Starz is set to announce that the next season of its historical drama Spartacus will mark the show’s final outing.
The upside: Creator Steven S. DeKnight promises the remaining episodes will be spectacular. “This season is bigger than anything we’ve attempted,” DeKnight says. “The scope and scale is just amazing. We’re dealing with massive battles between thousands of people. We hope to leave people feel satisfied.”

Yeah, you can only do so much before Mr. Fonzarelli decides to go water skiing.
Looking forward to the season as well. Enjoyed the piss out of last season.
